no_free_lunch Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) There is very little top line growth. They have been able to grow earnings per share by roughly double if you go back to 2007 era while paying a dividend but some of the growth is from improved margins. However, earnings should come and go. It's kind of a statistical bet. Onshoring should be a benefit to them as they seem to be have a lot of domestic US operations. Debt is quite low at around 2x earnings so they could probably do some share buybacks. The company is also supposed to spinoff it's health care unit, it's good to see management being proactive. The risk here is that there is a big lawsuit around faulty earplugs. You are speculating that they are able to settle the suit at a reasonable amount. This is not something I will claim to be an expert on, i appreciate the pushback. Edited December 11, 2022 by no_free_lunch

This is a stalwart, some moat, long history of slowly chugging forward. Not something you will get rich on but also priced to underperform. It's down over 50% from all time high and now trades around 12-13x earnings with a 4.7% dividend. Anyone else looking at this one? I've been writing puts on this name, seems reasonably cheap to me.
Spekulatius Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Re MMM, the combat earplug and PFAS lawsuits will be expensive and take a long time. I think they are depressing MMM stock.
Luke Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I bought into Samsung, 3% starter position. Big strong, cheap business with lots of tailwinds
Spekulatius Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Adding a bit more PBR A this AM. Anybody knows why it's down pre-market? I assume more political rumblings in Brazil.
Red Lion Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 BN. Sold all of my BAM and added 1.3X the number of shares to BN. After the wash sales run I will look to adding BAM back inside a retirement account particularly if I can get it at a better valuation.

Spekulatius Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Bought a starter in AMZN and added just a little to BX.
Red Lion Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 GOOGL. Needed to harvest my META tax loss and felt like GOOGL was a good place for this money to sit at least until the 30 day wash sale period runs.

Viking Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Bought SU, BAC, GOOG, AMZN, PYPL. Lightened up a little on FFH (still way overweight).
