As a matter of fact, there seems to be an inverse correlation between IQ and common sense or book learning and common sense. I always read/hear that the inverse correlation between higher education and street smarts is somehow bad. I don't think it's bad. It's logical. Higher education mostly trains analytical intelligence and not day-to-day judgment. In other words, academia tends to make problems look more clean and linear for the purposes of the analysis but realities tend to be messy (driven by the majority of the "common sense" bunch). What people forget is that most "common sense" is acquired through lived experience. That means you tried it, got feedback (good/bad), and then when another synonymous situation came about you applied past experience. And not all experience is pleasant. I'd still prefer a surgery by the academic type over a common-sense type. And get rescued by a common-sense type over an academic type.
SharperDingaan Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Academics look at what others do, have little real world experience outside of academia, and try to make sense of the world through static models; tomorrow will resemble yesterday, and nothing changes . The boiler makers do, consume vs produce academia, and go by smell and feel; tomorrow will look nothing like yesterday, and change is constant . Everybody has to sell their ideas; and the 'hot house' is the market, not the lifetime of a grant. Academic privilege cannot be taken for granted, and has to be continually earned; today's disdain reflects that lack of work. SD Edited January 30 by SharperDingaan

You are absolutely right about surgery or say sending a rocket to the Moon, although group think tends to be very dominant. However when it comes to governing society or making decisions for society, I would rather have a group of plumbers with sixth grade education than a bunch of academics at Yale.

Have to believe there are some very good academics and teachers at all levels even though their voices are largely drowned out or they wisely choose to remain silent to protect their own careers and their prodigies from complete moral bankruptcy.

Iq's a thing however left vs right brain ways of experiencing the world and analytical vs gestalt like thinking is very different. Edited January 30 by flesh
John Hjorth Posted January 30 Posted January 30 About the Epstein files : Reuters - World - US [January 30th 2026] : Trump's Justice Department releases final cache of Jeffrey Epstein files. - - - o 0 o - - - I suppose about all reporters around the whole now will stop reporting on the doings, actions of ICE, lots of misc. Trump stuff, the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Greenland thingy, the unstable situation in the Middle East, the Gaza thingy, and POTUS will start making even more noise on Truth Social, all while all reporters, investigators start dumpster diving in this dunghill, searching for dirt on anyone.

If you want to criticize the administration and government side...fair game...but science and medicine worked! No doubt about that. You've got a complete fucking moron now running health services in the U.S. because of that doubt of science and medicine. If we re talking about the ones who showed up to work, aka went to the office and did what they do there, sure. I’m talking about the ones whom went around giving lectures and advice about COVID. The ones who seemed to revel in their 15 minutes of fame and basically decided that fabricating confidence in “their studies and theories”, many of which we found out were total nonsense….yea fuck those nerds.

Fauci and different health wardens made mistakes, but science and medicine, doctors, nurses, orderlies, hospital admin, etc...they worked their asses off...the science was right, but the administration is somewhat debatable. In fact, Trump did two things really well whether people agree or not...he shut down the southern border and Operation Warp Speed were huge successes. Mephistopheles Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Fauci is an excellent impartial doctor, it's a shame that idiot extremist conspiracy theorists went after him. It's a shame COVID became such a political issue. One side full of COVID deniers and anti-vaxxers, causing the other side to go haywire with mask mandates. Trump who organized Warp Speed minimizes his own involvement with it because the idiots in his base are RFK anti-vaxxers. There is definitely TDS on the left which fucked them over. Mask mandates were good in 2020 when we had little idea on the severity of the virus and how to treat it, but stupid post vaccine and post having a grip on treatment. Yet you had all these blue states/cities that prolonged them for YEARS because of TDS. This is exactly what happened with Immigration. Yes calling Mexicans rapists and murderers is xenophobic, but that doesn't mean you let country flood with illegals. Where's the rationality? Edited January 30 by Mephistopheles

Mr. Kennedy was appointed by a president who had ground breaking thoughts on using UV light and ingesting bleach to combat Covid. I'm sure that between the two of them the present path to medical enlightenment is well on its way and a Nobel Prize in medicine cannot be far off.

I’m sure MAGA cult thinks it’s all fake. DOJ apparently remove the files after posting them lol Also - a reported orgy that involved BOTH Trump and Bill Clinton. The Trump part is fake news and Clinton’s is not right? Lol The house subpoenaed the Clintons and it there was any shred of integrity they’d hold both POTUS’s to the same standards, but there isn’t! Meanwhile the fascist arrested a journalist and raided Fulton County voting records over the 2020 election… All is well with the cult as long as you can “own the libs”! Gas tax is shrinking rapidly and doesnt hit EV drivers. Registration taxes everyone the same regardless of how much you drive. You can get insurance that works this way. This has the people who use the roads most pay more than those who dont. The current system isnt going to work much longer so why not talk about something where users pay more?

The old system of taxing gas in lieu of miles driven isn’t going to work forever. The problem is that the gasoline tax stays most likely.
Spekulatius Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) These Epstein files keep on giving. From Bill Gates STD to Elon looking for a wild party (email send on Christmas Eve), Ex Prince Andrew kneeling over a girl, Lutnick looking for vacation in 2012 Petter Attia giving dietary advice (pu$$y has low carbs). No wonder the convenient solution was for Epstein to hang in his cell. https://www.thetimes.com/us/news-today/article/epstein-files-latest-news-t9k6cllpf?gaa_at=eafs&gaa_n=AWEtsqfmKUdA2kGYSUjzmXfy85OhVFnL0qWg9x1zoZQU3d4QPVRmQB2rCWaw&gaa_ts=697f524e&gaa_sig=lup7toydFqCBxn20_oa4lELE1_x2RVO7wiXbA4oj9qBp1CCu-FRraXggsF-FBl8042sGYbcfKndTZsHJJKwEdQ%3D%3D Edited February 1 by Spekulatius
