Although IPCO could be a great long term investment and I might regret this. Up 46% year to date, couldn't resist. Also, oil could drop like a rock if the regime in Iran falls. Good post. I need to consider trimming here. I'm conflicted though; this is the rarest of birds - a commodity compounder.

From what I had seen so far it looks like an insiders market with only some breadcrumbs left for public investors.

Sold my IPCO and bought Nintendo with the proceeds. Still think it's an excellent company though, chances are just high that it will trade lower when oil inevitably comes down as Trump needs to score points for mid term elections.

LC Posted April 1 Posted April 1 So this post turned into a bit of a Q1 recap Sold all my oil exposure (wasn't much but the time to sell the pig is when it's fat) Reduced Aecon, it's holding up well in a choppy market but global events do weird things to long term plans (eg. national infrastructure projects and AI/datacenter energy plants with long build times). Still my 2nd largest position at 16% Picked up a few Fairfax shares, that remains my largest position at 33%. Haven't sold a share. Sitting on way too much cash than I am comfortable with. I tentatively deployed some into the insurance brokers and the some Techbro names (~1.5% combined) but glad I dipped in slowly as those are down ~20% from my cost basis. Feels like lots of uncertainty out there with short term Trump activity and long term AI impacts. Up ~2.5% YTD so nothing to write home about but for a variety of reasons, I'll take it.
DooDiligence Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I don't own this but couldn't think of a better place to put it. jfan Posted April 8 Posted April 8 1 hour ago, Castanza said: One of my best investments ever in such a short timeframe...sold the majority wayyy too soon though. Mine too. Got super lucky here. Had an intuition about the poor sentiment at the time, gained a superficial understanding of the dynamics, sold to recover the house money too soon, but rode it until it starting trading like a meme stock. The price-implied expectations are high here, and retail friends with no working knowledge (investment or mining) started jumping into this name, so I think it's time to leave the party.

I had owned Cameco between 2015 and 2021. Believed in its position but ran out of patience. Ultimately the money got redeployed to Bombardier, which did very well as well.
nafregnum Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Unloading some Micron and Apple shares bought in 2016, and Obsidian Energy from 2021. Watched Micron play the roller coaster from 440 down to 330 recently and now that it's back up I'm just going to trim every day it's over 400. Same story with Obsidian basically, but had to wait a lot longer for the roller coaster to be riding high again. (It spiked over $10 when Putin invaded Ukraine and I didn't sell, then it sunk back down for a few years) Shoulda listened to @SharperDingaan about trading energy stocks and not owning them.
John Hjorth Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) Offloaded all Svenska Handelsbanken AB, ser. B shares today [, to buy ser. A shares next week for the sales proceeds.].
