LC Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Isn't this a State's rights issue? said zero people on the right. This must be one of those "State's rights" we don't agree with, so it doesn't matter!

Rudy has indeed gone loopy, particularly after the 2020 election. Disgraceful. However as a New Yorker, I will always remember his presence after 9/11. Sad As far as these things mentioned above in the interests of fairness he thought he was headed for a Monica Lewinsky special. He was led into a private bedroom for drinks with a flirtatious, admiring young woman who the put her hand in his shirt to remove a microphone. He and his driver were signaled by a distressed woman on the side of the highway. Upon learning that she had been a victim of domestic abuse, he waited with her until authorities came. He was rear ended and significantly injured when his driver pulled back out into the highway.

So you can cut it up whatever way you want, there was no need for what Trump is doing. Funding for additional personnel on a federal level to coordinate tactics against drugs, gangs, guns, trafficking, etc would have been more productive. At one time, Giuliani was respected...a hero to New Yorkers after 9/11...a friend and admirer of John McCain. But then he tied his horse to Trump's wagon and like most in that sphere, fell off the wagon, lost everything and walked off into an ignominious sunset. And he won't be the only one...there are dozens and dozens who fell to the same fate. Probably by the time Trump is done, there will be a few hundred! Cheers!

I sampled your link by choosing cities with greater than 1000 per 100,000 for total violent crime and gave up after the first ten were all democratically run cities (no matter whether red state or blue). Maybe when they see positive results in DC citizens of these blue cities will demand more from their elected officials.

Yeah, but specifically what he did in contesting the 2020 election which was dishonest and undermined democracy . Guys like Chris Wright you might say are tying themselves to Trump, but what he is doing is very beneficial to the country.
dealraker Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 As our Trump fixes all crowd continues to rant "problem solved" it seems, at least according the Wall St. Journal today, that the royal family notched another $5 bil with their latest crypto scheme. Cubs, while you're obviously feeling empowered...are you sure Trump's slaving away for your benefit as much as you think?

So can it with the election fraud bullshit! Cheers!

Maybe when they see positive results in DC citizens of these blue cities will demand more from their elected officials. That's because about 75% of cities vote Democrat. Doesn't matter if it is a red state or a blue state. So explain to me why Trump has sent in the National Guards to Washington...which is relatively low compared to many other cities...and threatening Chicago, which is far down the list. Shouldn't he be sending them to the top ten? How about the top twenty? Washington isn't till number 29! Not even number 19 by population. So no rhyme or reason, other than he wants to make an example of Democratic governors! Cheers!

cwericb Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Seeing Russia, China, North Korea getting closer and now with Trump's dumb move to piss off India and drive India closer to the Russia China and North Korea is, to put it mildly, concerning. Trump and his pals are acting like they think they are are the kings of the world, This will not end well.

I think we could take the data, and the facts, and put it in front of a 10 year old and that 10 year old would have no problem identifying say, maybe, 3-5 very dominant, high correlation characteristics of the most disgusting and dangerous places in America. Republican run, certainly wouldn’t be anywhere near the top of that list.

Chicago has the largest gang presence of any major US city. Gangs and drug trafficking crosses city and state lines. Washington DC is the face of the country where our government resides. Optics plays a role and likely probably some strategy with regards to Chicago (if this is even beneficial, definitely mostly optics).

If you want long term, sustained improvement in crime it doesnt take a genius to understand this is doing nothing. Crime had been dropping for years already. And why not in cities with higher crime rates? Would be interesting how the locals Like @thepupil think about the National Guard presence. After all, they are the major stakeholder, the rest of us are just shouting from the sidelines. I think there are more folks here at CoBF that live in the greater DC area. Their input may mean more than all our opinion.

I live in the adjacent burbs and my life is very suburban and family oriented. between work and family, there' not much time for us to go galivanting in the city. we go in for museums, ball games, etc, but by no means city dwellers. I think DC had/has an embarrassing crime problem and I, as a relatively person who doesn't go into city often, would take certain precautions when going in for dinner, namely taking ubers so i don't have to park or ever be a pedestrian....going out late to a nice restaurant....uber to the restaurant...uber home. your uber can get jacked, but then you hopefully just get pushed out and lose a credit card and a phone. i welcome change...some of which was in progress via the reversal of truly idiotic policies on crime and it seemed like they started to actually arrests / punish people. i have mixed feelings overall re national guard, but think it makes most sense in DC, which has long precedent of federal control and for obvious reasons has very strong ties to the federal government. as a marylander, i do have some fear DC's gain will be Maryland's loss (criminals adapt) but given that much of the motivation for the crime is non-economic and hihgly localized, it's not a huge concern...more of a concern regardign the vagrants taking the red line up to moco.
gfp Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 (edited) I live in one of the most violent dangerous cities in the United States, although we are currently on an upswing in peace and quiet like most bad cities. We choose our vehicle differently depending on where it will be parked. I would never leave a bicycle locked up outside anywhere in New Orleans overnight. In the months after Hurricane Katrina we had a very large national guard presence policing our streets. We had checkpoints with hummers and machine guns and the whole nine yards. Curfews. Personally I didn't mind it much but there is a lot of local nuance that a bunch of national guard soldiers that aren't from the area are going to be clueless of and that part was annoying. Since the NOPD is understaffed by a large margin, the only thing that has worked to improve safety in New Orleans is a comprehensive high definition video surveillance program called Project Nola. It uses facial recognition and firearm recognition to let a multi-agency group of law enforcement people know when a wanted person is walking into a convenience store in the French Quarter or when someone pulls an assault rifle out of their pants. This system makes all the big-brother-surveillance state people VERY nervous but it has been extremely effective in our tiny city. I know for sure that a system like this is way more effective in reducing crime than a bunch of non-local soldiers standing around with combat gear on just to show a presence. https://www.projectnola.org Edited September 3, 2025 by gfp

So at the end of the day, who cares what anyone says or thinks? Results - good or bad - are all that matter and at least we've got someone in office who is making an effort.
