GS and TCEHY

FYI, It's probably more efficient to buy tencent through naspers.

Depends on the likelihood the South African government expropriates a big chunk of Naspers' value.

PIC , a south african SOE responsible for government pensions is a big stakeholder owning around 17% of shares outstanding. There is definitely some political risk here. They are not going to let a cash hoard of 11.2b go out of the door.

Their portfolio is impressive. If they spinoff listed shares to existing holders that could add good value.

I prefer directly buying TCEHY.

Recently, I bought a large chunk of Apple stock (before the nice post-earnings run-up  :) ). I still like it at these levels. Also, I purchased a moderately sized position in DVMT, which I think Dell will raise its offer for. Furthermore, I increased my stake in Softbank this summer by 1/3. Lastly, I bought some Tesla puts. This is my most speculative position (it feels vaguely like casino gambling). I am very pessimistic about Tesla's future, but the stock trades on optimistic narratives, so I may get the timing wrong.

Svenska Handelbanken on sale - anyone buying?

12x and 1.5x is on sale?!

Yes, Pete. I actually agree with Roger here, for that particular bank. I have what I want of this bank for now. 17 percent in red ex. dividends right now. I don't care. SEK weak compared DKK, and it will eventually bounce back because of no peg to EUR [contrary to DKK]. Bank chairman Fredrik Lundberg has been buying shares in the bank like a crazy the last two springs for his personal account, when he has got his personal dividends from L.E. Lundbergföretagen AB [he is the majority owner & CEO in LUND.STO via A-shares].

Not sure why so many people are buying brk.b - at this point brk is an S&P hugger and they both have the same 1 and 5 year returns. Plus, there's probably downside if WB kicks it.

It seems safe to say in retrospect that June 26th at 186.44 closing price was an attractive buying opportunity for Berkshire.  BRK up 18% since, SPX up 6.75%

We buy when Berkshire gets cheap - because we know how to value it - regardless of the index performance or correlation.

Given their capital cushions and high ROEs, I think so.  They have a M&T vibe in terms of cultivating profitable banking relationships with specific segments - wealthy, business owners, etc.

CoBF Book Forum topic: A Blueprint for Better Banking: Svenska Handelsbanken - Niels Kroner.

I suppose Pete already owns both the bank and the book.

Sold out of PBSV, bought more of D,SPG and IBM. But only because i reached my personal position size limit for KMI, SKT, BTI, PM and MO. I am down to 4% in netnets now and the rest is in defensive dividend growth stocks. I am still hedged with DAX puts and short call spreads on TSLA and NFLX.

Just soo true. It's extremely cumbersome & boring, occupies a lot time to read everything on the Berkshire forum here on CoBF and to discusss [World's best place to discuss Berkshire, I may add!].

- And still we all have personal opinions about a lot of things absolutely not being somewhere near optimal at Berkshire... I, for one, still can't find a modest praying carpet on the Berkshire Wear website ... [<- J/K]

John - the Motley Fool Board on BRK has some outstanding commentary and valuation analysis as well. FYI.
