nsx5200 Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I picked up some RACE. It's probably only fairly valued though so it'll probably just sit in a drawer somewhere gathering dust.
moatrep Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) At some point i'm not proud of saying this for it's simplicity, but I bought more MTY group, making it a 40% position. Even without the buyout they will report a good quarter. And happy to hold at this price. Other arbitrages I have are Cpac (12%) and Lqda (6%). Edited April 24 by moatrep
moatrep Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) @Mephistopheles Sorry may I ask you which calls are you buying? May 15th? Or longer duration. Thanks. I may try first time and sorry if it's a stupid question. Edited April 24 by moatrep

Men chasing a hardened, rubber bullet-like puck at over 30 km/hr on razor sharp skates, firing it at nearly 100 km/hr with sticks at each other, while colliding into boarded walls and open ice hits, then fighting to defend their team-mate, while playing with broken bones, ribs, missing teeth and some times even concussions! Yeah, football, rugby, no sport on earth holds a candle to that! Cheers! Let's be honest, and simply declare basketball as the sport that every other professional league is trying to be remotely as cool as. Or athletic as. Or to have it's athletes as intelligent. I know that a Canadian is supposed to support hockey but ... why be constrained by such things?

I'd be willing to stipulate basketball players are the coolest, and I think you could make a reasonable argument for most athletic. But how to you figure most intelligent? I think baseball is probably the most "thinking" of the major professional sports, and hockey is just as fast/complicated as basketball.

I may need to make an apology here and grant baseball the high ground on intelligence. Or at least acknowledge a no-decision. (I was poking more at hockey and American football, for those willing to take the bait ... you outdid me!)

As much as football players are considered "dumb jocks", memorizing a football playbook is an enormous mental task. Then depending on whether you are a defensive or offensive player, one of those numerous plays gets called every 1-2 minutes, maybe up to 8-10 different plays in a row, and you have to remember the play, and which route you have to run or throw to! Miss a route and you miss the throw or create chaos for your teammates. Cheers!

Saluki Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Bought a big slug of NTDOY. Sold a few short dated VG $10 puts and used it to buy a long dated VG call. I'll try again if Mr Market decides to drop it another 8% in a day.

Best athletes. I was thinking about this and I don’t think it’s possible for the nba considering the premium placed on height. Average player is 6’6” so you are only drawing the best from a very tiny subset of the population. 6’6” or taller is like 0.02% of the population. Much more likely the best athletes play soccer considering it is worldwide and all sizes are welcome.

I just don't think we ever get off fossil fuels because every time the price goes down we lean into more consumption. Truck sales go up in cheap oil environments, the poor become less poor in cheap energy environments by using more energy. It is one of those odd economic realities of a miracle product. Oil investment today is like buying farmland 40KM from a waterfront constrained city. It doesn't seem right day to day with the ups and downs but your grand kids will thank you. Between Arc and Topaz I expect that in the mid 2030's they will be paying a good chunk of my bills. I am not expecting any sort of comfortable ride but a prosperous one long term. So much for this paying my bills in retirement. Arc was bought by shell this morning. I now have a very large short term gain in a taxable account. Uncle Carney and the CRA wins again.
