I may be buying 400 more shares of JOE at $38.70 in 8 days.  I had a limit order fill yesterday, I sold 4 APR17 $40 puts for $1.30.  Not a bad price if I get put to and I keep the $1.30 if I don't.

More Joe at 40.xx. Hard assets located in the US are partially insulated from tariff madness. @Gregmal the shitco hard asset aka Itafos, is probably less shitty than feared. @Dinar I am also bidding on apartments in Boston aka NEN. Waiting for @nwoodman to report from the FIH AGM. Also buying GOOGL even though it is in terminal decline, hounded by regulators, gaslit by ChatGPT and regularly shaken down by the EU.

Well, a 25% tariff on cement and lumber imports from Canada & Mexico will significantly raise construction and hence replacement cost.  Makes existing apartment buildings more valuable.  Given the low debt/noi (6x going from memory) and debt fixed until 2031, it could also be a buyer of distressed assets, if any.

i dont know.. if it’s too expensive to build houses, or/and people’s retirement are delayed, and things get expensive for elder guys, joe has no use for those lands..

the upsides i see from this is the events so far have made Mr. orange losing allies fast, so he is becoming less powerful to do more drastic damages going forward. He showed his evil side too early.

Wow!  no cash in a bear market!  Did you invest all the cash this morning?

No, just there now.  I was out playing with kids, came in and saw the news and everything was ripping higher.  So I just loaded up on everything that was knocked hard (NVR the exception).

I’ve missed much of this initially relief rally but i’m betting it continues for a while yet.  I’ll probably sell some of these on a quick flip because some of them like C and BAC are position I already have and I don’t want them to be too big.

I wish I could say I bought them this morning, but I figured I’d wait for an announcement that was positive and then load up.

Even if I don’t get a carry on bounce, I’ve picked up a range of decent names at prices much lower than 3ish months ago.

Kicking myself a little about earlier because China and then the EU implemented tariffs and the market was up slightly which I thought was flipping strange.

I posted in the tariff thread that at some point these tariffs increases just don’t mean anything anymore because if trade is uneconomical at 100% it doesn’t matter a dam if it goes to 1,000%.

Should have took a little nibble, but I’m been caught before with a rug pull doing that.  Will just have to see if it works out over the days and weeks ahead.

I know it's short sighted, but I really hope you are right.

Yep. On both counts lol.

Gotta laugh, Trump, told everyone now would be a good time to buy before he paused the tariffs.

Do you typically go in and out of large weightings of cash as part of your investment process? If not then this seems like quite an impulsive move.

Not saying what you are doing is right or wrong just seems extreme.

It is impulsive for sure and I could get smacked around the head.

It’s never my intention to sit on large amounts of cash.  I always want to be 100% invested, but this past 12-18 months I’ve sold a range of things and didn’t buy anything back.  First slowly then a lot.

In the past yes I’ve have sat on large cash balances and I’ve never enjoyed it but I enjoy watching those gains withering away even less.  So at times I find myself with a lot of cash.

I’m still trying to figure out what works for me for the moment.  With rates a bit higher it has changed - I don’t mind running a 60-80% equity and 20-40% cash / bonds getting 4-5% interest.  That 60-80% equity would be packed with high volatility stuff though.

Edit - I’ve always seemed to do better when volatility is going crazy.  No idea why btw, something about the way I’m made up.

yea, When Trump went 104% and China struck back with 84%, in the past my NQ position would have gotten cracked -500 points but it held around 17000

anyway hopefully NQ grinds up to 20k!

Thanks for the explanation. Helps me understand the background a bit more.

So I have been sitting in 40% cash coming into this sell-off (I am usually always fully invested and have no sense of timing, so just call me lucky) which I think began in February. In hindsight I may have bought too aggressively early on with names like DFIN, which sold off early but didn't anticipate how much cheaper it could go. Towards the end of March, I was sitting with 15% cash, was able to add to Nintendo, Kyoto Financial Group, ACFN and Fairfax. Overall, pleased to be able to pick up some quality names at decent prices. But yeah my coffers are empty now. So I'll just be window shopping from here on lol!
