You know, you guys should have more respect for Canada and the sacrifices it has made as your closest ally for decades and decades.

When 9/11 hit, no one helped you more than us...we landed over 225 American aircraft at our airports for protection and safety...we sent hundreds of first responders to help at Ground Zero...Canadians were killed helping the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Let me ask you...when was the last time U.S. soldiers died helping protect Canada?

Most Canadians don't think of stupid things like this about the United States.  We're angry at your President and some policies, not you or your country.

Cheers!

Also interesting to ask how many soldiers did Israel sent to Vietnam, Gulf war 1 &2, Bosnia, Afghanistan to help out their most important  ally? I haven’t seen a single complaint about that - how come?

Unlike you, I trust him.

So you think 47 pounds is the same as 21,500 pounds? if you think it will ever be zero, dream on, but 41 pounds is getting close. How much comes in through American ports, airlines, etc ? Bet it is a bit more than 41 pounds.

But Cubs, you miss the point, it has nothing to do with drugs.

It has nothing to do with the border.

It is all about excuses for an economic war against your neighbour.

And you  are "perfectly comfortable with Trump's border policies." ?

Do we have a  fentanyl problem? Yes, the same as the US does.  You guys sneeze, we get a cold.

And what you are quoting was Canada's direct response to Trump's request. Then, because we took a number of steps to keep him happy he turned around and slapped the tariffs on anyway because it had NOTHING to do with the border or drugs. Trump has made it very clear that he wants to annex this country and has told our people exactly that.

You guys are so busy thinking that he is the great peacemaker and all the while he has Canada directly in his sights. If you think not, do some research. He has told several of our leaders exactly that.

Because every citizen born and raised in Israel serves in some capacity in the Israeli military and they are all needed to protect the Mother country at all times.  There is a religious exception to military service but those people are not fighting anywhere.

No one has done more than Israel to suppress world-wide Islamic terrorism for years - maybe the United States.

That's about the best ally Europe & the US could have.

Yet Israel gets routinely bashed by Europe at the UN.  Midtown Manhattan real estate is far too valuable to house a corrupt organization like the UN.

The UN is totally useless and corrupt with their funding of Hamas via surrogates.

According to World Stats I see Canadian population at around 40 million [by now at 40,126,723, actually]. Then imagine a country with about 6 million, a minority of that populating the largest part of the country, by area measures geografically, all 6 million hearing POTUS saying '... I might get it anyway!', 'for security reasons' his vice president and another high ranking guy visible sitting behind him at the video, with huge smiles, indicating it's funny, because its 'funny' what POTUS is saying. Later good laughes by these too men in the same way, when POTUS talks about the 'good folks in Greenland'.

What's next? - Naturally POTUS himself TACOs out, sending his vice president, who also chickens out!, by going to Thule Star Base in stead of Nuuk, so he is 'protected', because rotten tomatoes and eggs are easy 'to grow', as easy 'to grow' in Greenland as anywhere - you just buy them in a shop up there, and omit putting them in a fridge!

What's next : After that 'success', POTUS sends his son in Trump Force 2 [or is it 1?], this time to Nuuk, on a totally private visit, because nobobody part of public Greenland are willing to meet and greet him. What happens then on that day under that visit? POTUS' son hands out to some bums hanging out on a street corner some green notes ['greens'], and some MAGA caps, so his team gets the opportunity to take photos of those bums with their new MAGA caps!, after which to get out of there quickly, so he is out risk of getting hit by some 'not fresh' eggs and tomatoes!

Why not also Iceland? [for strategic, security] reasons [member of NATO, no defense!], why not Svalbard? [part of Norway] - much more strategically important location than Greenland for USA!, but the Nobel Prize Commitee is elected by the Norwegian government!?

At least you guys have a good portion of ocean separating you, while we share a 5,500 mile border that Trump refers to as "the Canada-U.S. border is an "artificially drawn line." .

Actually @John Hjorth - no difference between this and France, UK and other Euro blowhards talking smack to Putin.  All their bluster about how they will fight side by side with Ukrainian troops, with their own forces, to save Western Europe.

Your leaders played an extremely cruel joke on the Ukrainian people by letting them down and allowing 1.5M casualties, all the while bluffing that you would send troops for the last 4 years.

Wear it as your badge of honor or shame - your choice.

That's true, if the mentality in 'Southern Denmark', the part of Denmark you see to the right of UK on a map, don't care about the Danish population up there in the North.

We actually do. We actually do, even despite they up there are innuits, who don't meet up in the morning at work, when the start of the seal hunt season begins, mayors etc., on the other hand meets in timely that day, only to start CPR on kindergardens etc. where there is noone taking care of kids delivered there that morning!

In short - It all works out wonderfully!

I just had a thought. I don't recollect one single MAGA supporter on this board expressing disgust or even concern at the thought of Trump and his buddies making moves to take over Greenland or Canada. Actually given the Inuit population of both Canada and Greenland, it would seem the two countries have a lot more in common than with the U.S.

I think the 1.5M casualties are in Putin’s army not the Ukraine‘s. On a good day, they are losing more 1000 soldiers. No matter, for Putin, it’s still winning.

Looks like Canada has a serious fentanyl problem, killing many citizens.

This - according to your own government.

Oh well - just keep it in Canada.

Thank goodness for secure borders!

Actually, we should cut off the border to the United States and China based on Fentanyl and Fentanyl precursors getting into Canada...from the same report that you noted.  Cheers!

International context

The illegal fentanyl trade is a highly lucrative global activity that transcends borders and jurisdictions with supply chains, production and trade that are international in scope. The production cycle begins with precursor chemicals made abroad, and then acquired and processed into fentanyl by organized crime groups in North America.

Several countries in Asia, and the Americas, including the U.S. and Mexico, are regularly used as trans-shipment routes to facilitate the entry to Canada of precursor chemicals that are then used in domestic production. Most of the large seizures of fentanyl in Canada can be linked to domestic production that arise from illegally imported or diverted precursor chemicals.

Actually Cubs, you're the one that is incorrect here.

Canada and Greenland (Denmark) are U.S./NATO allies.  Yet, Trump blusters to his allies as potential sovereign takovers...whether they were bluffs or actual threats don't matter.  It was politically a stupid thing to do.

Russia is a Communist regime that actually invaded Ukraine and has made threats of using nuclear weapons if European countries became involved.

You're the one that should wear the badge of honor or shame...and it's certainly been your choice on how you wear it!  Cheers!

I love Canada too, always have. Been there countless times and the people are wonderful.  Hopefully, your new leadership will be much better than the hapless pretty boy Trudeau, just as we needed to get rid of the corrupt Biden. It's unfortunate that Canada essentially takes a free ride on NATO, where the United States does not - hopefully Carney will really fix that. It's a terrible look for Canada, but facts are facts - and it's a critically important alliance.

What a wonderful backhanded compliment!  I would hate to be your wife:

"Honey, you look beautiful today, except for your ass getting bigger!"

Cheers!

From the same report:

"The volumes of fentanyl moving from Canada into the United States are negligible- based on US Customs and Border Patrol data since 2022 about one-tenth of one percent of fentanyl seizures are attributable to the Northern US border or crossing into the US from Canada.  These volumes are far less than the flow of illegal narcotics into Canada from the US"

Spek, I read that Israeli troops served in the Korean War.  In the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan, Israelis were asked to stay out, remember they did not retaliate when Scuds hit Israel.  Don't forget, it is illegal still for Jews to visit Saudi Arabia.  As for Bosnia, how many soldiers did the US send to Bosnia?  Did the US even fight a ground war there? Also, If the US chose to side with Bosnians who are Muslim, why would Israel fight on the side of Muslims who tend to be very anti-Israel and against their historical allies, Christian Orthodox Serbs.  As far as I remember, the Croats and Bosnians were busy helping Nazis in World War II while Bosnians and Croats (Ustashe) were busy helping the Nazis.

I have no issue with Israel’s not participating  in US led wars - when Korea took place, Israel wasn’t even really established yet and during the Vietnam war, Israel had their wars to fight. I do think it’s right to point out that we are measuring with different yardsticks here.

By the way, the MAGA ultra right makes this argument as they hate Jews.

Pretty sad that a few particular MAGA posters never, ever have the balls to admit it when they caught posting BS.

They simply ignore the fact they were just proven wrong. As the saying goes,'ignorance is bliss'. Most of us know who they are and give little credibility to their posts on any topic.

Thank you for the articles and your contributions.  I find that media outside of the US have different viewpoint on the same topic and are worth paying attention to, especially if the topics are political only within the US.  This forum has a lot of members that are outside of the US, and that really adds a lot of value.

7 Crucial issues:

1. Reject Trumps predatory seizure of Ukraines Natural Ressources, Campaign so that all of Europe leaves NATO -> Goal a non-alligned but never neutral Europe.

2. Offer Russia to relax sanctions and return frozen assets to Russia and renegotiate with the kremlin and China so that the end goal of Ukraine is what happened with Austria during the cold war.

3. Fiercly oppose military keynesianism and replace it with massive green investment program with development and degrowth

4. Establish a new monetary common ground and push back private banks: Establish a universal dividend.

5. Europe without mass-migration will not be viable (demographic collapse inevitable even with higher birthrates)

6. Tax tech-plattforms and remove tax oasis in NL, Ireland etc. Create european app equivalents, force interoperability for all these plattforms

7. Stop sanctions for ASML delivering to China and Create own tech plattforms that serve common wealth.

Not agreeing with everything here but Yanis Varoufakis always gives refreshing perspectives that are worth thinking about, especially about a sovereign europe with more human dignity than other continents. Trump serves the perfect plate for us to go into action now and recruite scientific talent for example. I dont understand why digital services were never discussed in these tariffs pressures of which the US makes massive profits here.

Europe’s aggressive pivot toward renewables, paired with its rejection of nuclear and failure to secure alternative energy supply lines, has created dangerous dependencies — particularly on Russian gas.  This a self-inflicted vulnerability, leaving the EU strategically weak amid geopolitical turmoil.
