I love Canada, and Canadians. I work with a fella who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as contracted after leaving the service. Through all deployments as well as contracting, Canadians were right there with him, side by side. When the initial disagreements between our countries popped off and Canadians were booing the national anthem, he said he didn’t blame them. My coworker felt betrayed not by Canadians, but by our own administration for disrespecting our allies, who did in fact bleed and die for America. He was just as pissed as the Canadians. 
 

There are plenty of your neighbors to the south who haven’t forgot and haven’t changed, regardless of what the politicians do. 
 

I feel a lot closer to the avg Labatt drinking, walleye catching, hockey playing Canadian than I do with any asshat in Washington.

If the US has any “unbreakable, iron clad bond” with any country in the world, it should be Canada!

Makes me wonder what game Putin is playing here….I suspect it’s one for time to allow for further wins on the battlefield without any escalatory costs (secondary sanctions etc.) also you can imagine how demoralizing the terms of peace being rumored are for the Ukrainian soldiers on the frontlines - serious thrift is being given to the idea that Russia could claim territory it currently doesn’t hold! That’s right Ukrainian soldiers are defending territory right now that will potentially be given away later. I ask how committed would you be to defending said territory knowing it’s potentially being given away later? It’s a pretty great strategy by Putin & Co to demoralize the Ukrainian front lines to their advantage.

 

I suspect we are headed towards (an embarrassing for Trump ) Putin rug pull here…where Putin & team via carrier pigeon Witcoff start to backchannel contradictions to what Trump & Co believe was conceded in Alaska (security guarantees etc) and which precipitated this DC summit ….where Trump got to embarrass himself and could girlishly tell other world leaders how much Putin is 'into him' and how that’s gonna get a deal done.

 

A more optimal time for negotiations is out in the future for Putin (Russia is on the ascendency on the battlefield).....so it would be strategically dumb for him to do a deal now, unless of course complete capitulation peace terms are available now.

Same.  I’ve been in Canada many times from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.  Always felt very comfortable. When there I think, there but for circumstance go I if my forebears made different decisions.

I love Canada too, always have. Been there countless times and the people are wonderful.  Hopefully, your new leadership will be much better than the hapless pretty boy Trudeau, just as we needed to get rid of the corrupt Biden. It's unfortunate that Canada essentially takes a free ride on NATO, where the United States does not - hopefully Carney will really fix that. It's a terrible look for Canada, but facts are facts - and it's a critically important alliance.

NATO needed to be fixed very badly. NATO is in the process of being fixed due to Trump, unfortunately, in the process, weak leadership gets exposed. Sometimes tough talk is needed to restore the world order. You'll always hate Trump, that is very obvious - which is too bad. I find none of this amusing. You call it bullying, I call it forcing weak leaders to do their job and change. It's ugly, but needed.

 

100,000 Americans a year die from Fentanyl - we finally got someone with strength to deal with the narco-state of Mexico. We finally got someone to deport hundreds of thousands of criminals.

There is a LOT going on behind the scenes to which you seem oblivious. But here are just a couple of little examples.

 

For many years Canada has been the United States's biggest customer for your industries.

 

Canadian importers are now constantly shifting to new markets to replace US exports to Canada because from Ketchup to Tractors Canadians are checking label and refusing to buy anything that says "Made in USA". The US may find shopping around for new customers not as easy as it seems, given the additional shipping costs and other country's retaliatory tariffs. That will cost American jobs but it takes time to show in the statistics. 

 

Canada is/was by far the United States largest source of international tourists. Canadians now realize that we are no longer welcome in your country and airlines are drastically chopping flights between Canada and the US. Check the billions that Canadians have been spending in your tourism industry - and those billions employ a LOT of American's and mom and pop local businesses. 

 

This all takes time to filter down into your unemployment and financial numbers, but it will eventually add up. We have yet to get to the yearly mass Canadian migration to Florida and Arizona. It will be interesting to check your tourism figures this winter as more Canadians may choose Cuba, Mexico, Asia and Europe.

 

But here is the point:  These actions are not steps being taken by the Canadian Government.

 

For the most part these are individual personal choices made by individual Canadians because of the way your present administration and many on the US Right are treating Canada and Canadians. And while many in the US have been expressing regret for the situation, don't tell us, tell your government.

 

PS.

This BS about the 51st state and referring to our Prime Minister as "Governor", is most insulting to every single Canadian, and is not to be taken lightly.

 

We feel that Trump is 100% serious in his desire to annex our country. And if he can't strangle us economically he will attempt to do it forcefully. To our American cousins: You voted for him, you are responsible for his actions.
