Say what you will he’s one crazy old grandpa…..the funny and frustrating kind….the one you hate but you’ll kinda miss him when he’s gone. I’d prefer him back on TV where he belongs though-

Now one can stop mailing shower heads to another state for remodels? Asking for a friend.

Man, I installed the Louisiana version of a favorite model of shower head for a shower my wife uses a lot and she said it was too much.  I swapped it for a California version of that shower head and she likes it much better.  Louisiana was too much!  California with the little silicone tricks they use to trick you into high pressure was just right

Apologies if this has already been quoted. I find the below fascinating...like is Bessent leaking to the WSJ, "guys he doesn't want a depression, we're good".

Trump played his cards close to his vest. He told advisers that he was willing to take “pain,” a person who spoke to him on Monday said. He privately acknowledged that his trade policy could trigger a recession but said he wanted to be sure it didn’t cause a depression, according to people familiar with the conversations.

Do people realize that this guy is just riffing?  He has no plan, just freestyling it!

But somehow it's the Grand Plan, Art of the Deal, Negotiations, Spine of Steel, etc.  No one has a clue what this guy will do when he wakes up on any given day.

All of the shit he sells is made in China!  Look it up...almost all the Trump merchandise is made in China!  Cheers!

So now we wait for another china retaliation?

All things considered, the markets rallied but it hasn't been all good news.

China is still the biggest exporter in the world and lots of US companies rely on their cheap goods to make a living.

I still see quite some pain ahead of us...

I guess now all those businesses that were being "forced" (seriously LOL!) to instantly move to the US actually don't need to move to the US after all.

That was quick.  Probably why none of them were planning to do so anyway.

Isn’t it a little bizarre that people seem to be rooting against the country just to have some weird personal “gotcha” with Trump? Like we ve seen numerous, deliberate, “this is happening and it’s bad” posted with joy, multiple people cheering on the continuation of the Wars just because “Trump said he would end it”, isn’t this a little pathetic?

Peak tribalism….you’re either all in or not. Hindsight analysis galore. Being an independent gets more difficult by the day…

It’s all…

”How dare you support a single policy from the opposition”

“How dare you speak out against a single policy from our parties leader”

I see it a little differently.  Independent thinking simply requires one to remove emotion and personal feelings from decision-making.  Its actually quite easy to preserve emotion only for people I care about.

I actually think trump has united the country in the last week.

You’ve got Paul (R) and Wyden (D) co sponsoring bills to take away the presidents emergency power to enact tariffs. You’ve got leftists (ie Rachel Maddow)and billionaire bankers and random Twitter bros railing against the idiocy of it all.

It’s kind of beautiful (if there weren’t real time human costs to the haphazard nature of it all ).

Totally agree especially with the “emergency powers” thing which has become a total joke. It’s very much out of hand. But there are indeed real life human consequences. People losing jobs, people dying with the wars, etc. which is what makes the cheering and rooting for it by largely the elitist “I’ll be fine/Im insulated” crowd particularly disgusting.

Interestingly Trump is getting weaker sooner than I thought.  My guess previously was his peak power would come about halfway through his term, then events would whallop his goofball school kid presentations.  But I'm thinking now with him caving so soon on this that his toughness is far less than what I thought, that events are gaining control.

There will probably be setbacks, but when we look back my guess is Trump's peak power was about election time or shortly thereafter.  Too many opponents for Trump to handle, most don't even know who he is.

Life is great, if you can stand it!

Sure on a personal level I agree with this. What I was referring too is the interaction between opposing party members. For the people on the far ends of the spectrum it's clearly an all or nothing game. Then once moves are made it's all hindsight analysis with a few "I told you so's" tacked on. I tend to agree with Sweet that most people who voted for Trump were not expecting this level of escalation. But I also think all the "I told you so" leftists saying "we knew this was going to happen." are full of shit. Nobody knew, hence the market reaction. Last time I checked the market is full of money, not political affiliations. I mean was Trumps first term that bad? Quite a few people on here in the "I told you so camp; seem to think it was disastrous. If Covid didn't happen would they be saying the same thing? I doubt it.

People need to learn to extend an olive branch. I'm not a fan of the tariff policy and how it was implemented, nor how Trump lacks empathy, character and any form of diplomacy with our allies. BUT I'm not breaking out my crystal ball to make predictions on what happens or looking for told you so's based on hindsight analysis...I definitely admire your ability and some others on here like Greg who filter the noise. I'm not an economist (not even close); and 99% of this stuff is way beyond what I understand.

All I know is that TYPICALLY we think things are worse in the short term than they end up being in the long term. TYPICALLY markets go up over time, and good companies manage their way. So I'll hold my breath, close my eyes and hit the buy button. A bit of cynicism goes a long way

@CastanzaYeah, I agree with most of that.  Its really not difficult at all to ignore the noise.  I find the local barber shop (was there this morning) one of the best places to get news and a cross-section of opinion.  Likewise local coffee shops in early mornings along with the gym at about 5:00 am.  These are people who mostly work or if retired, maintain healthy habits.  Anecdotally, these folks seem to have more important things on their minds than Trump and his latest antics because they've lived through far worse.  "This too shall pass" is a common refrain.

Peak hilarity yesterday really.

After 4 years of epic Presidential failures no one wants to admit, and now this. Predictable.
