Calling Trump a fascist was a huge political miscalculation by Biden.     The reason the real Antifa has been quiet in his second term is because the skinheads for the most part have also been quiet.      Calling him  a fascist allows him to respond by calling all progressives Antifa.

 

Go after Trump for having an unqualified leader of DHS, hiring a bunch of non trained agents acting as thugs misrepresenting the constitution, not acting like real police,  under the pretense that America is invaded by a social class of poor criminals and predators.

 

Don't forget the Central Park 5 still have a defamation lawsuit (the irony) against Trump.    Trump has been going after

Will be interesting to get a feel for the lay of the land when I travel back to Germany (first time since 2022) this weekend. It’s easy to read the news but hard to get a feel for the sentiment when you live far away.

 

I have a feeling that Merz is failing at reform. The Rentenreform (pension reform) vote was one example. he was held hostage by the SPD because he did not negotiate with the other parties (Linke, AFD). Due to self imposed ideological restrictions. If you have an only one party to go to, then you get held hostage by them

 

I think the prudent thing would have been to talk to all of them SLD, lind and AFD and see where you get your votes to get the thing done with the least compromised (from Merz perspective) regardless of ideological  constrains (Brandmauer). Of course the SPD would have cried uncle but they would also realize that their leverage is limited next time.

 

Ironically, the Linke withheld votes which allowed the votes to pass which already tells you who won. It’s a win for pensioners but a loss for the young people who need to pay for all this.

 

But what do I know….

We are very lucky to live in a county like this....even if the President of United States wants you indicted and locked up he cant get it done if there's no merit to the case!

Oh, yeah, right -- Trump is so "authoritarian" and Biden never abused the law:

- Biden indicted Trump for taking classified documents and SWAT raided Melania's underwear drawer.  Biden had classified documents for years. Are you expecting Trump to indict Biden and raid Jill Biden's underwear drawer??  Shit, even Biden's Special Counsel Robert Hur flat out said Biden is guilty.

 

- Trump administration has obeyed every single injunction the lower courts have thrown against him, unlike Biden.  

 

- On final legal appeal, Trump's record in the Supreme Court is now is 22 wins vs 2 losses.

You realize that 55k students in a country of 84M people are not a whole lot. As an investor you should not about the concept of base rates.

 

i bet I one could mobilize 550k students in America to demonstrate for the same thing. Or 5.5M for the White House to get painted in Rainbow colors.

55k in a country of 84M would be a ~220k sized protest in the USA. Given that this was a rally of students (probably mostly aged 15-18) and does not include adults of all ages, it seems sizable given the narrow demographic of the protest.

 

Also noted to be the largest student protest in years.

 

It is encouraging though that the leaders are not buying it and following in that German tradition of reminding the students about the rules:

Certainly 500 years from now you can’t expect them to remain disarmed. As Ukraine has shown, if you don’t have defense, there will be guys like Putin who will come and take things from you.

This is basically what Vance said in Munich that upset so many — that there should not be firewalls that prevent you from working with a certain party. However, given Germany’s fear of right wingers due to its history, they have overcorrected to the left (along with much of Europe).

 

In the EU you recently saw Ursula finally break the firewall which allowed her to pass the omnibus that will roll back regulations. She could only get a majority to pass it—by getting the “far right” party to go along. It is the only way to correct some of the imbalances—to work with some of these people. Otherwise the government just veers in a leftward direction—even when “center right” people are in charge.
