Anybody know what tariffs have been imposed on Russia the Soviet Union?

Let's face it, it's always been the Soviet Union. Now it's united with the oval office.

Traitors in our midst. Ronald Reagan must be spinning about now.

I predict the right will start demonizing him soon.

A China pause is simply inevitable.......I'm starting to get positioned for it.

Starting to lean this direction as well. Almost makes me want to pick a basket of a few logistics companies. UPS, FDX, DHL, even AMZN all beaten down. Same with rails.

This tariff threat is looking pretty similar to the initial covid reports….at least on the front end. Obviously not going to see insane e-commerce volume in a trade war. But fuel prices should come down which is a positive and hopefully we’ll see some cost passed along.

Part of me just wants to look here because it doesn’t make sense if you go by the media…

Why not pick up cheap Chinese retailers (PDD)? Heads you get a huge rally, tails you're probably already close to the bottom for PDD, valuation wise?

E might be the face, but people running the actual show might be real rocket scientists, I suspect.

What if china decides to cancel us held shares as part of a trade war?

10 year yield continues to rise, the highest weekly gain in 25 years.

Looks like China is dumping treasuries to squeeze Trump. Very fascinating. Probably next week we will see a 90 day pause on China.

Doubt it, he will likely remove chinese ADR's from the US market. He will escalate until China stops following.

I think i read somewhere they found it’s Japanese dumping treasuries (but now china knows this works and may use it)

Nice. I was never a fan of the Simpsons. Gonna have to give them a shot. Apparently cartoons and comedians are taking the place of journalists these days.

I hope they keep it up even if he does do a 90 day pause. Make that bitch cry on national TV.

This is were I get a bit lost with the whole thing.  Musk has never said or done anything that has made me think Nazi.  Being against large scale immigration doesn’t make you a Nazi.  Throwing a goofy straight arm salute doesn’t make you a Nazi.  I mean the guy has Aspergers, he has all sorts of small but observable physical ticks, like the way he blinks, walks, speaks and holds his head.  He does all sorts of weird and cringey shit because he is (not joking either) a bit of a social retard.

Do I like him - not particularly.  Ever since he called the cave diver trying to save kids a ‘pedo guy’ nor do I like his constant (and continued) bs around Tesla capabilities - a long list of outlandish promises never delivered.

But Nazi?  Come on, it’s not even remotely close to that.  Can we please reserve it for people who actually are Nazis?

Don't be an apologist. Open your eyes before it's too late. If it sieg heils like a nazi, it's a nazi. Read the article.

I have, I don’t agree with you.  You must not know what the Nazis believed or did.

Being a dickhead, being against large scale immigration, does not make you a Nazis - not even close.

I’m not being apologist, I’m afraid you need to look at yourself on this one and ask why you need to overreach to Nazis.

This is the guy you are talking about:

”“I have been in the same room with Elon, and he always tries to be funny. And he’s not funny. Like, at all,” says a senior Trump administration official. “He makes these jokes and little asides and smiles and then looks almost hurt if you don’t lap up his humor.”

And…

“With DOGE, Musk has gleefully banished tens of thousands of federal employees, canceled lifesaving aid, and repeatedly threatened America’s safety-net programs, all as part of a purported hunt for waste, fraud, and abuse. He’s governed as an out-of-touch corporate villain, laughing about this carnage while partying, posting, delivering big payments to voters (although the amounts mean virtually nothing to him), and cashing in on new contracts and business opportunities — sometimes appearing high out of his mind.”

And…

“Talking to the guy is sometimes like listening to really rusty nails on a chalkboard,” says the senior Trump administration official, who adds that Musk is not much of a team player, either. “He’s just the most irritating person I’ve ever had to deal with, and that is saying something.”

Is he an edgy, nerdy, cringey, socially retarded, out of touch, asshole.  Yes.

Is he a Nazis - sorry no - you need to be honestly compare and contrast the two.

Sorry Doo, just cannot agree.

I suppose, somehow this topic also has become the topic for what's going on in Greenland, right?

Today, It's all over the place in the Danish news media, that the base commander at Pitiffuk Pitifull Pituffik Space Base Susan Meyers has been fired, for lack of management capabilities.

First I thought perhaps J.D. Vances french fries haden't got enough time in the friture oil, of perhaps Vances wifey wasen't satisfied with the conditions in the ladies room, or something like that, untill I found this piece, ohh well :

military.com - Military News [April 10th 2025] : Space Force Commander in Greenland Sent Out Email Breaking with Vance After His Visit

I personally think this raises a lot of questions :

  1. How can it in the first place be considered a promotion to be appointed base commander of a frozen hell hole?
  2. Perhaps for Susan Meyers men with a beard are out of the question because they tickle a lot?
  3. Nothing to do in the spare time there, so why not use that time to develop a foreign policy separately for the spot one is in control of?

Article seems like a bit of a hit piece really. Usual sign of this are the excessive use of loaded terms and mind reading.

For example “Musk, “with a very condescending smirk,” hit him with a line from the 1999 movie Office Space: “What would you say you do here?”

Or “Musk has gleefully banished tens of thousands of federal employees”

Seems like the author must be a psychologist who can pick up when musk (a person who has autism/aspergers) is smirking in condescending manner or just smiling in a social situation. And can also determine when he is gleeful or somber when firing people. This guy is wasting his talent in the field of journalism.

Reading up on Russell Conjugations might give you a bit of insight into what’s going on with this article.

https://bigthink.com/the-learning-curve/the-russell-conjugation-a-rhetorical-trick-that-loads-words-with-emotion/

Musk has a lot of flaws but let’s try to save the nazi comparisons for actual nazis.

After raising to 125% tariffs:

“Even if the U.S. continues to impose higher tariffs, it will no longer make economic sense and will become a joke in the history of world economy,” the statement said, according to a CNBC translation.

“With tariff rates at the current level, there is no longer a market for U.S. goods imported into China,” the statement said, adding that “if the U.S. government continues to increase tariffs on China, Beijing will ignore.”

It seems to me as a step towards deescalating, giving each side a platform to step down from this tit-for-tat.

Yeah it amounts to a trade embargo. China will struggle to find buyers for their crap goods. USA will struggle to find equally cheap crap goods from other countries. Trade substitution takes time. Import substitution is mostly a fantasy. Eliminating the trade deficit with China is an impossibility.

Having said that since the 1st trade war there has been a trend towards doing less trade with China and this trend will probably accelerate. We will probably land with tariffs that discourage trade with China while moderating the short term pain to the extent import substitution isn't possible or feasible. Still a negative though and doesn't reflect economic sense but rather animosity between the nations and national security concerns.

It appears that there is now a delisting threat to Chinese equities due to deteriorating relationships with China. This happened  before in late 2020 when some Chinese companies were delisted and you could not buy them any more on US exchanges:

https://www.scmp.com/business/markets/article/3306203/delisting-us-listed-chinese-firms-boost-hong-kongs-status-fundraising-hub?module=top_story&pgtype=section

I think the chances are better than 50% that this is going to happen.
