Blake just keep in mind that my bias as to Trump is extreme, I think he is terrible for the US. But I do consistently invest and I made the three largest investments of my life (the largest one time outlays, they are not big as to my overall portfolio) in the last couple of weeks. I bought more META, loaded up on AMZN, and after reading Parsad saying he bought Markel I waited a few days hoping for a fall (the stock had gone up after Parsad bought) and I got it. I'd sold Markel higher, but in tax account, so while I got rid of a tax liability I did actually lose some even buying back a couple hundred dollars cheaper than my sell. I'd lost faith in Markel management. But what I'm getting at of course is that I buy stocks in businesses I like as the out come from me beginning in 1975 is one that says do it again...and again. I despise DJT, I invest. Not related. I had more cash than at any time in my life recently. Not being a jerk here, just thinking of your youth and what I'd do at your age--- much less mine.

And now, as if that orange lunatic is not demented enough, I read that the "Trump administration is exploring punishment for NATO countries that have refused to support the conflict". What is the matter with these people? Shit all over your friends. Apply punishing tariffs to your friends products. Constantly insult friendly countries, their leaders and their people. Threaten to invade those same friendly countries. And then, then start a war, with no plan and no consultation with those same friends and now have the unadulterated nerve to threaten to punish those (former) friendly countries? For what? Not bailing you out when you get in over your head because your 'war' lacked planning and omitted consulting your friends before starting a war? A war primarily to primarily divert attention from evidence showing that you were a f**king pervert??? Just more proof that the man has serious mental problems. Some days it must be difficult to justify being a Trump supporter. The problem is that licking Trump ass doesn’t get you anything but a brown face maybe. Trump sees himself not part of NATO (see the security paper) and he speaks an out NSTO in third person language as if he is not in it. He won’t lift a finger if an Ally would get attacked by Russia (Bessent famously said that Russia is Europa problem and Russin troops won’t show up in Boston) etc. The problem is that Trump can’t get out it the NATO without a substantial majority from Congress and he knows he won’t get it. However he can make NATO a lame duck by implying that he won’t honor Article 5 if it comes to that. I think Europe needs to make contingency plans and get their house in order and get backup for the American capability in logistic and satellite intelligence etc. Also Europe needs to get its own Nuclear umbrella, the French force de frappe is not enough and just one bad election away from folding anyways.
LC Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I gotta tell ya, I have to give a big round of applause to @Parsad for really well-calibrating this Politics thread. The amount of entertainment I get from catching up on a few pages of posts at the end of the day, it's like a soap opera! Who will insult who? Will Sanjeev need to warn or ban someone? Is someone going to come in with a mic-drop moment and silence the critics? Will we have a "kumbaya" moment between frenemies? Will a brand new participant appear? What side of the political line will they land? THECOBF delivers, yet again!

aws Posted April 10 Posted April 10 The Strait of Hormuz is still closed, with only a handful of Iranian tankers being allowed through, plus a few dry bulk vessels paying the aya"toll"ah. Yesterday Trump told a reporter he was considering a US-Iranian joint venture to collect tolls, which thankfully he is now walking back tonight with truth social posts demanding no tolls. Hopefully it has more behind it than his "Vladimir, STOP!" posts. It's quite ridiculous to allow Iran to collect revenue from this. Not only is the shipping lane through the strait in Omanian waters, but imagine the precedent it would set. The vast majority of all international shipping has to pass through chokepoints in territorial waters of at least one country, like the Strait of Malacca or Strait of Gibraltar. Would the adjacent countries there start demanding tolls too?

I’d wager they have a lot in common with the “thems” that filled Bidens cabinet or IDK, Kristi Noem’s husband…but that’s just speculation. The only ‘losers’ on CoBF are posters who consistently spend more time attacking other posters on a personal level rather than on the subject of their posts. When you have no facts to refute, justify, or even rebut the reality of the facts presented, attack the poster. Right out of Trump's playbook. Monkey see, monkey do.

He may have a “ joint enterprise” with Iran, finding a way for his share of the tolls to find their way into some offshore Trump bank account. Or if he doesn’t do that, he will encourage the Iranians to continue to collect tolls in digital token currencies(maybe even Trump coins?). Whatever the tolling situation ends up at, the net result is almost certain to be a negative for the global economy.

It's even more interesting that Libya, Serbia, Ukraine, and the Falklands - all fought on behalf of NATO members, dragging the USA in for the heavy lifting. Hopefully, our "role" in NATO is finished with such ungrateful, pathetic "allies". The USA will be able to count on Israel - as they certainly know how to fight, as opposed to the fat, dumb and happy members of NATO.

All accurate but if there's one poster here I'd like to personally meet (I have met two so far but politics weren't discussed) and discuss politics with, it wouldn't be the guy I agree with most always - Parsad. It would be Cubs. Parsad and I might fall asleep in discussion - we'd bore each other so much in agreement. Cubs would have me twisted in knots, challenged.

Zemergefen Posted April 10 Posted April 10 17 hours ago, changegonnacome said: Israel has been subject to Hezobolah rocket attacks since 1982. Bibi chose March 12th slap bang in the middle of an historic US/Israeli assault on Iran to launch the largest ground incursion into Lebanon in 20yrs! As I said - the question isn’t Israel’s right to respond, right to defend itself….the question is - Why now? I explained why and it’s not a fringe theory. Netanyahu lives in fear of being sidelined at Iran-US settlement talks. By scaling up a conflict in Lebanon to levels not seen in 20yrs . Netanyahu has created a separate but linked conflict that he alone controls escalation around which greatly expands his influence over the success or failure of the ceasefire or negotiations. I called this out yesterday at the very outset….and well we didn’t have to wait long to see it in action ….Bibi chose the day AFTER the ceasefire announcement to launch its largest rocket assault in Lebanon since the start of Epic Fury. Coincidence, I don’t think so, and it had its desired effect Iran closed the SOH hours later in response. "Israel’s military launched what it described as its most powerful attacks on Lebanon on Wednesday, killing hundreds of people and turning joy over the ceasefire in Iran into panic." https://www.nbcnews.com/world/lebanon/lebanon-israel-attack-iran-ceasefire-hezbollah-rcna267260 I understand your point of view but i find that view a bit narrow and too complicated. Israel intentionally decouples the Lebanon and Iran issues and that makes sense for a sovereign nation. While Iran does fund Hezobollah they should remain different conflicts. A US /Iran ceasefire should not dictate the reality for the Lebanon Israel border. Hezobollah has been firing rockets since 1982, but Israel’s startegy / gameplan shifted immensely since Oct 7th , they are not going to let a terrorist organization build strongholds and stockpile weapons on the border. Also seems that the ceasefire with Iran, allows the IDF and the intelligence teams the full attention to the Lebanse front.
Zemergefen Posted April 10 Posted April 10 16 hours ago, changegonnacome said: For sure - which begs the question why did Bibi decide on March 12th to take an already over-stretched IDF and invade 18 miles into Southern Lebanon. The reason is obvious. Southern Lebanon is a means by which Israel inserts itself into bilateral US-Iran negotiations. If Bibi doesn't like what's happening - he ups the ante in Lebanon to destabilize US-Iran talks. Lebanon is Israel's veto. Iran's not outlandish position is that Bibi may begin the 'gaza-fication' of Southern Lebanon killing thousands of civilians as collateral damage in attempt to 'obliterate' Hezbollah....and Bibi made a pretty good down payment on that possibility yesterday with a few hundred dead already. He put his marker down. To your point this Southern Lebanon card isnt unlimited in its power (I'm not saying that), the US has leverage over Israel but it most certainly gives Bibi increased strategic control over US-Iran negotiations than he would have had without an active, highly volatile front in Lebanon in play. I expect over the coming weeks for Bibi to artfully modulate IDF operations up and down in Southern Lebanon depending on the tenor and progress of talks between Iran & the US. Modulating down to placate US requests to do so (like today) and modulate up at critical junctures where talks may be going in a direction not to his liking. Where do you see 18 miles invasion?? Israel established a 10 kilometers buffer zone because Hezbollah have been using Anti tank guided missiles (mostly Kornet) to fire at Israelis civilian homes. These missiles have effective ranges of 5 to 10 kilometers ( 3 to 6 miles).
