does make me sit up and take notice.

Well that is the entire purpose of existence for a lot of these Twitter or YouTube based eyeball seekers. As it stands, Iran currently has the some of the strongest and best funded enemies, all coming for its head. It’s certainly entertaining to try to paint this as something entirely different, but it’s not. I mean how did all those “higher inflation and oil prices” forecasts post Ukraine and Russia’s start to the war end? Hint? It peaked at the start of the war and was the a classic fade trade.

It's only day 4 and the lunatic crowd is screaming about "forever wars".  LOL

@cubsfan just so I understand your perspective and by extension then I get a sense of what the people who support the President are thinking here.

What is the US strategic objective here in Iran as you understand it?

As a proud member of "the lunatic crowd" I will have you know that I have never said anything about 'forever wars'. You're are just still pissed about that little incident about Canada burning down the White House.

On the contrary, of these 14 new wars that Mr. Trump has started, at least half, (well, maybe a third) will be settled when Mr. Trump gets tired of attacking Iran. Then Donald J Trump will claim settling more wars and become a leading contender for the No Bell peace prize.

Onward and upward.

Oh there is plenty of that here, and all day long the media is screaming about "quagmire" and such - an we're on day 4.  So predictable.

If that's not dumb enough - now Iran is shelling, what,,,, 11 other countries???

How is that going to work out for Iran???  Ha!

And just for you cw - Cuba is next..

1) Insure no nukes primarily

2) Bonus objective: payback for 47 years of terrorism.

Works for me. Retribution is a beautiful thing.

To me, this was by far the most important issue in the 2024 election - who, if anyone, would stop Iran from going nuclear.

Any regime that would slaughter 30,000 of its own people would not have hesitated to use them.

All the other crap we fight about pales in comparison. IMHO.

Doomberg has been bearishness on oil prices, arguing that the world is in a new era of abundant supply and that long-term, structurally low oil prices are likely.

They are definitely in the camp that all commodity shortages are followed by gluts.  The higher this oil war spike goes the harder the ultimate crash.

As far as their view that the U.S. and its allies  are dangerously short of air-defense interceptor missiles and that Iran likely has an enormous stockpile of advanced missiles and attack drones, I am not saying they are right.  Just that they have enough credibility, that I heed their point of view.

As long as Trump is President - then it's over to Israel - who knows what nut-bag gets elected in this country.

What is your view @changegonnacome on strategic objectives?

I don't wish to overcomplicate it. If the regime falls, it falls, if Iranians pick up the pieces with new leadership - let it be.  The message has been delivered - and the world has been done a huge favor.

Can you imagine the irony of being short weapons because we…..gave them away under the last regime? My god it would just be another example of how stupid this liberal ideology is in the real world when shit plays out.

Frankly, I think Rubio should be the next President.

He's the most competent, well-spoken, terrific leader, loyal even to someone like Trump's agenda, incredibly capable, and is pretty much running the entire government anyways!

His Q&A right now on CNN shows how good he is at his job...not a single person in Trump's entire hemisphere as talented as this guy.  Dems have no one anywhere as capable either!

Now if Vance or someone else somehow wins, you are going to get another 4 years of this from me and everyone else Cubs!

Cheers!

Yeah, Cuba needs a change in government, if for no other reason then to stop the American blockade and its strangulation of their country. I have been to Cuba many times and have many friends there. Cuba is a beautiful place and the Cuban's are wonderful, bright and very well educated people.  They have a good education system with free university and school attendance is compulsory from ages 6 to 16 (end of basic secondary education).

Their problems for the most part are caused by the American blockade. Punishing innocent people for 60 years is just wrong. I sincerely hope that the government can be removed without bloodshed. But starving the Cuban people is very unlikely to cause a government change by itself.

Agree on Rubio.  They also have good people at Energy(Wright), Interior (Burgum), EPA (Zelden), and others.

Pour one out for the countries (Syria, Venezuela, and now Iran) that thought a friendship with China & Russia meant they'd get something in return:

I also agree on Rubio, I only question his support of Trump. However, I guess following Trump may be a means to an end. I also think he might be a very good leader for Cuba. Just would like all this bullshit dropped about reparations for something that happened sixty years ago.

China's not stupid.  They know that they will have to get along with the U.S. to some degree...and vice versa.  Global stability is to the benefit of China as well...maybe no Taiwan, but they will always be the alternative when the U.S. pisses someone off now!  Cheers!

I think China is most concerned with their uncle point: energy transiting through the Strait of Hormuz. At the end of the day, China will always prioritize China--even over its friends.

Yes, Vance is also thinking the same thing.  Put up with 4 years and get a shot at the title to do it the way I want.  But Rubio understands global politics better than anyone in the Trump administration.  He also has balls that I don't think Vance has.  So to keep MAGA world happy and Dems glad it isn't Trump, he's the best solution long-term.  Cheers!

Considering all the drones, arms, etc that Iran has given Russia in its fight with Ukraine, Russia not doing anything material to help Iran's regime is especially noteworthy.

It sends a clear signal to everyone in the world that thinks that allying with Russia/China will bear fruit one day...

+1

As an outsider, he seems very competent and the best of the bunch.

I also like, being politically conservative myself, is that he doesn’t shy away from fights.

With regards to Vance, I like of what he says, but think he’s a dunce on foreign policy.

Donald Trump is probably the single-most optics driven person I have ever seen. This man doesn't give a single lick about the long-term future of probably anything.

Somehow, on a forum dedicated to the ideas of both Buffett and Watsa, two men driven almost entirely by the long-term view of things, there are still those here who've been caught hook, line, and sinker by this grifting moron we call a president.

Did anyone actually read the article @dealraker sent earlier to this thread? Here it is again:

NYT: How Donald Trump Bankrupted His Atlantic City Casinos, but Still Earned Millions

How is this a person that anyone could hope to have as their leader? He's a fucking lying crook.

I think preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is long term oriented thinking.

+1 - how can one argue with that?

They'll find some angle how he is supposed to profit from it.
