I like that he thinks I said it but unfortunately my knowledge.of the depths of Ed Koch are limited. Wasn't me. Period. Might have been Parsad.

But if you quoted me multiple times @whiskybravo, surely you can privide the post?  Or.is this another false assumption you once again cant prove despite.claiming?

Wasn't me.  I think someone asked about NY selecting socialists every few years...someone pointed out Koch and Dinkins or something.  I also included DiBlasio.  Didn't say anything about Koch.  Cheers!

Russia and the US have opposing world views and spheres of influence and naturally butt heads.  The way for that relationship to significantly improve it would require one or both to seriously diminish in power, or if Russia becomes more democratic and Western orientated.  Both seem unlikely.  It seems to me to be a bit like hoping the Israelis and Palestinians would just be productive friends.

+1!  Cheers!

Wrong, totally wrong,

If you engage with someone, who can't be trusted in a deal, it's naturally Okay. ANd it's actually not that complicated.

You simply have to make sure your counterpart delivers first, and you later, not the other way around.

In financial terms, by a CFO it's called 'No credit available to you!'. If the counterpart asks you - feeling very hurt and insulted : 'Why?', Your answer is always : 'That may appear evident to you already!' Works every time, especially in the case of an balance already existing! - It's called request for prepayment.

Handing over land to Putin in exchange for a promise about something related to him promising not to do something in the future, him not pursuing in his wet imperialistic dreams and fantasies, is not only naive, it's also plain dumb.

- - - o 0 o - - -

Absolutely no need to handle things like a nun who has never tried to have a certain [male], not further specified, thingy in her hands! - After making this mistake perhaps one time, you'll never engage in it again!

You are not dealing in reality @John Hjorth

Putin already has Crimea, Donbas, etc -- given that is the case, he's not handing over ANYTHING - now you have to take if from him by force.

Time for you to get in the real world - because those territories are his now.

Is it so crazy that Russia might actually like to have a productive relationship with the United States?

Thats not what Trump said....he said Putin wants to make a deal for HIM....him personally...not the United States, for Donald.

You say ‘wrong, totally wrong’ but what you wrote is kinda the point I’m making.  You can’t trust Putin, not a word.

However there is a problem, and it’s that is there isn’t actually an alternative.  Ukraine has to beat the Russians out of Ukraine without direct intervention from the US or Europe - which seems unlikely.

Without outside help, how will Ukraine get its land back?  If it can’t get its land back, what’s the alternative other than to make a deal?

If the deal can’t be trusted, security guarantees that results in a war with Europe and the US if Russia breaks the peace might be the only way the deal stays in force.  This is the way things are working themselves out, whether any of us like it or not.

There you go again.

It's very very obvious what he meant - repairing the relationship between the United States and Russia.

It's so simple, all you had to do was listen to Putin's Alaska speech where he lamented the relationship going off the rails during the Obama/Biden years.

He barely mentioned Ukraine in his speech - he talked about restoring a friendly relationship with the United States, only made possible under Trump.

Try listening to speech.

are we talking about the same thing here...the hot mic that picked up the below exchange between Macron and Trump today.

Quote

“I think he [Russian President Vladimir Putin] wants to make a deal,” Trump whispered to French President Emmanuel Macron in the East Room.

“I think he wants to make a deal for me, you understand that? As crazy as it sounds.” Trump said to Macron.

Trump is right about it sounding crazy....in his old age he really seems to think he's in a monogamous bromance relationship with Putin where Putin wants to do stuff to help Trump....and this deal that doesn't even exist yet...is going to happen soley because of their special bond....your hero is off the deep end here @cubsfan......applaud the efforts at peace but Putin has really done a number on Donald if he's speaking in private like this (and he is, cause we've got the tape).

I pray Trump never sends troops to Ukraine, but he may back a security guarantee which will upset his base.

"You can't trust Putin, but you do have to deal with him. That is reality."

That is quite true, However, the problem is you can't trust Putin OR Trump. Trump is an outrageous liar and he is also notorious for ripping up agreements. So, since past history shows that both are liars and you can't trust either one of them, even if they come to an agreement, how long would it last?

Looks like you have little choice.

They are both liars, just like the Canadians that promise to support their NATO allies, but never pay up.

Get over it Cubs, we got rid of that asshole. But since you mention it, how do you think we are supposed to meet NATO commitments when your country has stabbed us in the back and is attempting to wage an economic war on our country?

Why would you stop lying now, when you have no intention of making Canada's commitments until 2032?

That's some ally.

Nothing to worry about CW - the US will defend Canada even if you keep stiffing your NATO allies.

Haha. Just kidding. I know you are just concerned we might attack. But have you given thought to becoming Canada's 11th province? Free health care, no need for guns, almost no mass shootings, great weather (for a couple of months), etc....

That's some ally.

  • Carney has already allocated $9B to 20% increased wages for infantry and 7% for higher ranked soldiers, as well as a hike in recruiting.
  • He's already looking at ordering 32 subs.
  • They are deciding between European or F-35 jets...80+ of them.
  • Four new C-Class Destroyers to patrol the coasts and Artic.
  • Billions already spent on increased border monitoring.
  • He's also considering participation in the Iron Dome.
  • Committed to hitting the 2% of GDP target at the end of 2026.
  • Hitting the 5% target by 2030.

Exactly when was he lying?  Cheers!

You know, you guys should have more respect for Canada and the sacrifices it has made as your closest ally for decades and decades.

When 9/11 hit, no one helped you more than us...we landed over 225 American aircraft at our airports for protection and safety...we sent hundreds of first responders to help at Ground Zero...Canadians were killed helping the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Let me ask you...when was the last time U.S. soldiers died helping protect Canada?

Most Canadians don't think of stupid things like this about the United States.  We're angry at your President and some policies, not you or your country.

Cheers!

Feel free to show more respect to the current POTUS. He is indeed OUR democratically elected leader - our chosen one.

And don't be offended that Canada is on the border of the greatest military in the world. That will keep you safe.

Respect goes 2 ways.

Following closely and comprehending are two different things.  The other dude included Koch in a list of extreme leftist NYC mayors.  Koch was a balanced budget hawk.  Yet he’s the stickler for holding others to account.

P.S.  Some other Koch policies

Tough-on-Crime Stance

Pro-Real Estate Development and Gentrification

Public Service Cuts

Antagonism Toward Black Political Leaders

Uncompromising Support for Israel

Clashes with Public Sector Union
Restrictive Stance on Immigration
