I was really impressed that unlike so many CEOs, Tim Cook wasn't afraid of Icahn at all and went to Icahn's house for dinner to talk about it all.  Basically agreed with Icahn but had a conservative board that needed some convincing and Apple's capital return program has been pretty legendary ever since.

Havn't watched it fully, but the Icahn documentary at HBO is indeed awesome so far. I do remember the Texaco saga back in the day but didn't know the details with Pennzoil, so that filled in some blanks.

I also liked his cushion on the sofa.

Got caught up on Billions. It’s crazy how the shows liberal writers go so far out of the way to make SDNY prosecutors look like the corrupt scum that they are. Chuck has lost his mind and the little sidekick is even more deranged. True to life it seems.

Problem is the show just sucks now. The characters have become caricatures and the plot is redundant. The show was over once Damian Lewis left and frankly it lasted a season too long with that.

Fun fact is Paul Giamatti bought a townhouse in my old hood for a mil or two back in the day. I don’t blame him for sticking around, gotta pay off that mortgage I suppose!

Paul Giamatti is one of the most underrated actors out there. He and Kevin Spacey probably two of my all time favorites for these type of roles. Saw 21 was back on NFLX. Great movie as well.

Just finished "Super Pumped" the Uber story and I've also been watching the WeWork show "WeCrashed" as well.  They are fun to watch as TV shows, but I question how accurately they portray the CEOs and other main characters.  They made them out to be absolutely nuts.  Especially Travis Kalanick, he was like a comicbook super villain with few redeeming qualities.  And on WeCrashed Adam Neuman was portrayed as kind of an idiot used-car-salesman/conman with zero business sense and his wife Rebekah Neumann is one of the most annoying, dumb, idiotic characters you will ever see on a TV show.   Both shows left me thinking these people can't really be this bad in real life, can they?

Yes, Paul Giamatti is great and I love to see him in movies ever since he portrayed Pekar in "American Splendor" - a great indy movie.

@cubsfan loved "Nobody as well". That bus fight scene is worth watching the movie alone:

I come to like "Station 11" that HBO doomsday series. Great acting and the storyline jumping back and forth in time makes for great engagement.

“Super pumped” took inspiration from the book of the same title from NY Times journalist. Fairly in line with the book. Then the question would be how accurate was the book.

I am “east coaster” and until late 2018-19 didn’t even know how Travis looked like in person, I imagine someone on the West Coast probably had good idea how eccentric or not he was

New season of Billions is a disaster. Nothing to do with the great actor playing Prince vs. Axe. Just the story telling has down the drain big time.

For instance i don’t give a damn about Wendy’ book and how it relates to anything.  Sounds more like a made up arc so that she does something. And everything else looks like a fictional series of encounters where everyone is trying to show off how high IQ they are.

the high point for me was Chuck making reference to President Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg.

Yea Chuck breaking into random storage units and knowing exactly where hard drives are and then getting caught only to have to DA secretly covering his tracks while putting up a facade to trick prince, let alone the way foes always have their issues come to an immediate head to head battle….pushed this from being a time killing show with occasional value to just downright dumb.

Giamattis character was great up til recently when they seemingly went way overboard making him into some sort of deranged socialist criminal.

Agreed.  I always thought of him as the enemy, probably because I always think of government agents that way, but he was at least human in previous seasons.

I am such a sucker for Kevin Spacey. He's by far one of my favorite actors.

I love his popular stuff like American Beauty, 21, and Usual Suspects

But I really love some of his lesser knowns. Like K-PAX , Pay it forward, Moon, & Shrink

Also a big fan of Ryan Gosling and Sigourney Weaver.

Some recs, I hope I'm not repeating what others have said:

In and of Itself (2020)

Dune (2021 -- of course!)

The French Dispatch (2021 -- for fans of Wes Anderson. Def not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it)

CODA (2021 -- was glad to see this get some acclaim, it's a good film, glad more people will see it)

Man I might have to get HBO back for that.

Living in France, couldn't find it on the local channel, OCS, which usually shows HBO stuff. So did a little Googling, and found it on Putlocker...

The new Batman looks really good. I like the style.

Highly recommend "Tokyo Vice" on HBO (Canadian Crave). About an American journalist working stories on the Yakuza in the Tokyo underworld in the 90s. Really well made.

We just recently discovered the French TV series “Candice Renoir.” She is a French police Commandant in a city on the south coast of France. There are 10 seasons so far and it is still in production. We are really enjoying it.

I saw it in theater. Not usually my kind of movie, but some friends were going, and I don't regret seeing it. Very very well shot, I love the cinematography. Great music too. And a kind of detective/noir vibe that worked pretty well.

I mentioned Station Eleven on HBO before in passing  and I think it’s a masterpiece with its Shakespearean plot (on multiple dimensions), superb acting and storyline. I think I actually need to watch it again to fully understand the plot and the multiple layers. Great TV if you like this sort of style.

Thanks for that earlier recommendation, @Spekulatius!  I've been watching Station Eleven this week (finished episodes 5 and 6 last night) ... I might need to review some Shakespeare plots just to appreciate it better.  The show has really grabbed hold of me -- I keep thinking, "I sure do appreciate civilization and the internet."  Just imagining the trauma for all the pre-pans is super heavy.
