A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates: ''Have you done anything of particular merit in your life?'' St. Peter asked. "Well, I can think of one thing,” the cowboy offered. “On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. “So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, 'Now, back off or I'll kick the stuffing out of all of you!’ ” St. Peter was impressed, “When did this happen?” “Couple of minutes ago.” -
I know what I am doing this weekend!

Mike, I like your take on this. To me, it's that plain simple. Based on the VZ and CVX additions, I hope to see some serious & material addition to BRK soon! Thanks John. I think VZ and CVX will be ok, but I'd be a real happy camper if BRK bought back $15 billion, or more, in the fourth quarter.
-
8.6bb investment in Verizon. $4bb in Chevron. That doesn't seem like as good a use of capital as doing buybacks to me. Exactly my sentiment. If I was told I had to choose between owning BRK or VZ+CVX it is not a hard decision. Question Buffett, easy to do. Proven wrong, many have. Well, I don’t think these purchases are big mistakes, like I did with his airline purchases and selling of WFC. I just think BRK will return more to me as an investor than VZ or CVX could possibly. That is why I have 80% of my portfolio in BRKB.

I just got my first shot of the Moderno vaccine this morning at a WMT.

Not quite, but about 80% BRKB surely a fine portfolio within Berkshire, but why not spread that investment around a couple indexes? are Buffett/Munger worth the concentration risk? I should have qualified that the 80% position was in accounts where I can buy individual stocks. For 37 years my employer made a contribution equivalent to 15% of my salary. For the first 27 years into TIAA-CREF and then for the last ten years into Fidelity, so 401, 403, and 457s. In these accounts I cannot buy individual stocks so I have the funds in various Vanguard index funds. So I actually have more in index funds than in BRK.

Not quite, but about 80% BRKB

I love Tesla and think it has a bright future. I also think this market bubble is going to pop and its going to hit the companies trading at 26x sales while growing less than 20% a year the hardest, so I purchased some 2022 Tesla $200 and $400 puts. Thats kind of like a sell, isn't it? Yes, I would consider that a sell.

I know there are a lot of Canadians on the sight so some of you must be Gordon Lightfoot fans. So I took this photo for you!

As usual, wrote 230-strike 1/29 expiration BRKB puts an an average price of $1.02.
-
That is what I would call a starter allocation! LOL
-
Wrote some 232.5-strike 1/15 expiration puts. Effectively a limit order for tomorrow that I get paid for.

Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World - David Epstein
boilermaker75 replied to Xaston's topic in Books
I wasn't referring to courses outside of engineering, such as liberal arts courses. I was referring to specializing too much in ECE. For instance, if a student is interested in software engineering I have colleagues who think the student doesn't need to take any circuits courses, fields, or even all the math we currently require. They should just take more programming courses. -

I bought it, the kindle version is only $4.99. This is an argument I am constantly having with my colleagues about our ECE curriculum. Many want our undergraduates to specialize and I argue for a broader base with their undergraduate degree. They are already specializing a lot by studying ECE. Vannevar Bush said something like specialization was the death of genius. -
