Greggs plc

Decent company.  No fuss food and cheap too.  I could see them continuing to do well if they can go more international.  Looked at it several times and passed, only because I can’t see the future well enough.  But at a PE of 11 it’s hard to see how you lose much money here, and with some luck you might make a ton.

Finally dipped a toe into CNC. This sector is impaired, but this is starting to feel like BA at $118 a few years ago when the analysts capitulated.

Yes had similar thoughts, maybe ireland is a good next target, who knows. But even in GB they should be able to grow a bit, since they still open more stores than close. Add inflation, share buybacks and it should grow at decent rates, especially since they are not levered yet.

Ireland would seem like a good choice although it won’t move the needle that much on the share price.  Would like to see them in the European and North American markets.  They did have an exploration of Belgium with some stores but they wound that up.  I feel they do better in NA.  Maybe the market is just too saturated.  Overall though it’s a stock I watch, might even get a slice at this valuation and see how it runs

Should probably take it to a Greggs thread if there is one, but I'm not sure about international growth. I think their food has appeal to UK tastes and would work well in Ireland too, but not sure if Europeans are likely to take to it as easily. I think it could work in North America but competition is fierce.

It's cheap enough to probably do okay anyway. The UK is pretty cheap in general. I'm thinking of moving a bit of cash over there.

CB usually stays in a trading pattern for awhile.. Also the hard market in insurance is still there...Right now Insurance stocks are getting sold off with health insurance stocks but these are two different sectors...

a lot of fear...These insurance companies are going raise premiums end of year...WSJ excepts it to be 20% + ...remember what happened to the insurance companies when hard market started...Probably same thing here

ELV/UNH and I think HUM execs have also been buying stock....

more TPL, LB, & back in to BRO.

Pleased to see smart people on here doing similar (though I know others will find it heretical seeing the valuation of these Oil Royalties!).

Also back in to MSCI on the drop, but not sure how I feel about it.

I thought about adding to MSCI too, but I don't have any dry powder right now.

Sold some short term puts on PM and if they get exercised in a few weeks, then I'll probably keep 100 shares for the coffee can portfolio and sell the rest of them.

Bought some BRK.B for the fist time in a very long time. It was part of my monthly purchases for almost 9 years from my first purchase in 2014.  I stopped in favor of the gold space and some other local insurer 😀 around mid 2022

Something Sokol said at this years Fairfax dinner really stood out but I didn't act on it as I was dumping USD into CAD. As of yesterday much of the CAD has been flipped back to USD and in Able hands now.

He said dont sleep on BRK, Greg Able is a heck of an operator or something like that. My feeling was he was in contact with Able and felt the levers were being pulled to increase profits of the subs.

Maybe also just being gracious and magnanimous for the folks as Greg got his job.
