gfp Posted March 4 Posted March 4 haha I saw this on twitter yesterday and I was all 20 also... Am I crazy that 'all 20' should be a super common answer?
rogermunibond Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 If you're over 50 I would think so or pretty close 18-19

It'll be pretty age dependent. I'm 40 and my answer is 18. My son is 12 and his answer would be 1. Maybe he gets up to 2 or 3 lifetime (I think 'pay with a check' and 'send a postcard' are the most likely, in addition to the vinyl record my mom played for him). Many of them were "once as a kid" for me. Eg, my family never owned a rotary phone that I recall, but I used one at my gramdma's once. My elementary school had these old electronic typewriters that I tried once before concluding it was better to use WordPerfect, etc. I could see someone even a couple years younger than me being like 8-10.
Rainier Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I’m under 50, but I’m at 19. Maybe 20. I’m not sure I ever used a rotary phone. I know I’ve touched one as a kid, but not sure I ever called anyone on one. And I’ve used both small hard floppy discs and the big floppy discs that were actually floppy.
Santayana Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Rotary phone? My grandparents had one of these bad boys. Do I get credit for 21?

Am I crazy that 'all 20' should be a super common answer? - LOLz! - I just hate getting reminded that I'm not just getting old, but I am old! It's simply not fair! Furthermore, I protest fiercely, intense against this twenty bullets list. That complaint, objection will go to Sanjeev [ @Parsad ]! [<- j/k] To me, the list for sure should be expanded, at least by two bullet points! 1. A Telex machine, & 2. My first 'mobile phone' [well, portable, if you don't have any problems with your back ] [absolutely awesome, genious piece of engineering work] . Absolutely nothing like having a todler seatbelted on the back seat in the car, saying while driving in my Toyta Corolla 'Dad, I want to speak with Mom, - please call her and hand over the phone to me, please' <I suppose, Bernard Arnault-like>. The only 'catch' with this thingy was, that was that if I forgot to disconnect it with the car when car parked, it drained the battery of the car - fast , so the car coulden't start! I remember a couple of times being totally stuck in the midle of [dark] Jutland, grumpy, very grumpy, because the damn thing had not only drained the car for power, it had also ran out of power itself anyway, so no possibity to call for assistance somewhere! - Which was the whole idea of buying the damn thing in the first place! And that thingy actually lifted me for, by then, a quarter of my monthy salary before taxes. Still an awesome phone, if you ask me!

It was a party line and everyone had a set of rings such as 2 long and 1 short. You could be nosey and listen to the neighbors. When it lightened in a thunder storm it would ding. I am old just turned 83

Watched a large console, black and white TV that took up half the room 22. Drank milk delivered by the milk man 23. Used a Trip Tick from AAA to navigate road trips 24. Smoked a cigar on a commercial airplane (sorry!) 25. Made telephone calls from a phone booth for 10 cents 26. Watched the ticker tape at the local brokerage house (and paid up to 5% commissions on each trade where quotes were in fractions, not decimals) 27. Got stared at when running outside because people thought I was being chased 28. Didn't know a damn thing about new places I traveled to until I got there 29. Grew up in the Streets at a time when no one worried or called Social Services if parents weren't around...... Ah, the good old days! Edited March 4 by 73 Reds spelling
Sweet Posted March 4 Posted March 4 18 - but that’s only because we used it for school, around the time the internet was coming out, so I think it’s a outlier. The one that most accurate for me is probably 14 - dial up internet.
LC Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Unbelievably I just sent over some ACAT forms to wells via fax a few days ago. 2026 or 1986, who can tell?

You would have to pull it out of the water, and then the clerk hands you a small towel to dry the bottle! Cheers!

We didn't have one of those, but I remember when my parents had to lift the receiver on their rotary phone, talk to the operator, and have a call put through...both locally in Vancouver in my early years...and always for International calls till I was about 10. Cheers!

This topic is unbelieveable funny to me! @LC, Sure you remembered the 'reverse page up' rule while faxing? - - - o 0 o - - - I remember once many years ago I said to my secretary 'Please send the xxxx year business financials draft to client Anders, for his comments and approval!, to me' Early morning, I had been working intensely on it most of the night. Next thing, immedialy happening, client Anders calling me why [the hell] I'm sending him 28 pages pages of blank, white paper! Me : 'Huh? - What do you mean?!' - She was 11 years junior to me [then and still], never seen or handled a telefax mahcine before! Who was to blame : Me! Always be guiding before setting expectations! I remember a few [all maleI] clients calling me, asking me, directly on my mobile :'Who is that woman answering your phone now? - I want to meet her!' Naturally, my reply every time was 'What can we agree on, on the extra surcharge?', adding 'You have heard her voice on phone, melting you, her boobs and cleavage, legs etc. within working hours are mine! Btw., outside working hours , she is 'taken', 'occupied, too !, please don't test me by calling around me to her!" Client, every time : 'OK, John. ... *sigh* - Let's not complicate this further.' rkbabang Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) Yeah, anyone over 50 has all 20. I'm over 50, so all 20. The real test though is how many have you done in the past year. 4 for me. Edited March 4 by rkbabang

We would make a trip every couple of months on a Saturday morning, drop by the Pop Shoppe depot, I would get to select a few bottles and then go on with the rest of our grocery shopping trip! I was maybe around 5-6...until I was 8 or 9. At that point, the big 2 L bottles of soft drinks were available at your local grocery store. Cheers!
