2nd term motto is looking something like, Don't worry: Donnie raped and trafficked kids, ICE kills Americans, the Trumps grifted taxpayers and sold out American global leadership...but most impotently is that poor little MAGAs got their wittle egos stroked, so it's all OK 🙃

Nah, more like -- State of MN loots the US Treasury and tries to cover it up. Loony protestors try and run over law enforcement and gets shot. Maduro tells Donnie to "come and get him", and that backfires big-time.

Democrats continue to melt down "we got him this time" for the millionth time.

🤩. It's funny because Trump is looking more and more like a RHINO republican president of old, not a populist. Big tax cut for the rich? Check. Deposing dictators in Latin America? Check. Bombing countries in the middle east? Hell ya .... it's big Bush or Reagan energy!

@Spooky,

There is simply no coherent US policy, based on some basic, overall principles, policies any longer. It's all 'Do as you go', sudden 180o U-turns always possible, if needed, opportunistic. And always others to blame, if someting goes wrong.

Absolutely incredible, what he can get away with.

Gotta keep up better, he's channeling Elizabeth Warren today - Bush was this weekend. Capping defense company CEO salary, eliminating their buybacks and dividends, limiting institutional single family home ownership, there's something for everyone in this Trump presidency.

John, it is understandable why you and those who don't live here (and those who do live here but don't support him) feel that way.  But for those of us who did vote for him, we are getting what we voted for (yes!).  You may deem it a form of chaos but we knew what we were getting with Trump the second time around.  What you see as an erosion of principles for me and others is re-establishing principles that were in danger of being lost.  America is better coming from a position of strength.  We can argue all day long about how we got there and what we need to do to remain there but under prior leadership that single-most important principle was failing fast.  Trump has non-traditional methods and personal incentives, neither of which is a concern to me as long as he fulfills his campaign promises, which he has to date done more than any other elected official in my lifetime.   He tackles issues, is not afraid to speak his mind and wins exceed losses.  Want diplomacy?  That is what diplomats are for.  Trump is no diplomat and doesn't need to pretend to be one.  He is, however an interesting study in pattern behavior, which people who support him are able to recognize better than others.

OK, but if I ran a search of all your posts in this thread for the word "cult", how many hits do you think there would be?  Over/under 100?  I'll take the over. 🙂

Well when people show undying love and approval for a person (not a party or cause) and unquestioning support for anything they say or suggest even if it contradicts previous positions, gotta call em like i see em.

Actually, you should look up the definition of the word "cult".  It is defined as a relatively small group of people.  Wouldn't classify tens of millions of people as small.  Just saying.

You guys are so clueless.  All you have to do is read the December document President Trump published on National Security. It's all there.

German president says US is destroying world order

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has strongly criticised the U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump and urged the world not to let the world order disintegrate into a "den of robbers" where the unscrupulous take what they want.

In unusually strong remarks, which appeared to refer to actions such as the ousting of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro at the weekend, the former foreign minister said global democracy was being attacked as never before.

Although the German president's role is largely ceremonial, his words carry some weight and he has more freedom to express views than politicians.

Describing Russia's annexation of Crimea and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine as a watershed, Steinmeier said the U.S. behaviour represented a second historic rupture.

"Then there is the breakdown of values by our most important partner, the USA, which helped build this world order," Steinmeier said in remarks at a symposium late on Wednesday.

"It is about preventing the world from turning into a den of robbers, where the most unscrupulous take whatever they want, where regions or entire countries are treated as the property of a few great powers," he said.

Active intervention was needed in threatening situations and countries such as Brazil and India must be convinced to protect the world order, he said.

Trump has unleashed destruction of the restrictions of the past, maybe...actually surely... something that was inevitable to come.  Trump though tends to screw up most things he's involved with but it does take time for his workings to show up.  Can someone or some entity with actual plans or goals that do have steady logic gain the power in the future?

I think there is great risk today with Trump both with investments and as to the country being hijacked by the least competent and most self-serving.   So far investors just love The Donald but they always have in all his workings in the beginning.  We are really just one year into Trump having control, just the beginning.

The US economy was in a great place when Trump got elected.  Endless things were in a terrible place, but not the economy.  I think Ian Bremmer does an excellent job in the document I posted of setting the real stage of where we are today.

That said, I am literally amazed at the nonchalant way obviously otherwise smart men like Reds view Trump!

There was even greater risk before.  Memories tend to be short.  You and I have been around long enough to know that.

1) I would argue that nothing has changed from a US security perspective, the VZ regime is still in place. Even with respect to drugs if the US had intelligence on drug boats they could have just intercepted them and VZ is not the main source of either cocaine or fentanyl coming into the country. 2) there was a months long military and intelligence process to extract Maduro, I'm not sure the cost involved but I assume it is significant.

I don’t get why Trump is so eager to deal with Rodriguez (she is just another face of the old regime ) instead of supporting Machado ( the winner of the 2024 election ) who appears to be sidelined for now.

I guess we don’t really need regime change as long as  the old regime complies with US demands and we can run the country as a puppet regime from a desk in the White house.

For context, Trump said in his press conference that Machado is “not respected” in Venezuela. Just another 3d chess move, I guess.
