Gregmal Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 Man some irony in all this….turns out the Republicans don’t actually care for “free speech”, in fact honoring somebody who died for free speech, by canceling folks for speech. And the democrats, good golley now really don’t like cancel culture after harassing everyone and weaponizing it for a decade! Kimmel himself I’ve never watched, but again man, what a dumb dumb, of all hills to die on, he couldn’t help but be a good loyal soldier and try to legitimize this recently emerged whack job liberal attempt to claim this kid was anything but one of their own brainwashed propaganda children? Even here we had some trying to bizarrely push the idea he was far right which was just kind of jaw dropping stupid. World truly is upside down.

Dozens camp outside NYC courthouse chanting “Free Luigi” and buying and selling Mangione merch. Feels like we are rapidly nearing the point that if you own any property or value any sort of societal order, you are going to have to stop supporting (D) candidates. Or just someone who does not have high income or assets, but does not want to live in a Marxist society and hence either starve or being shot or being sent to a labor camp. By the way, Heastie - the speaker of NYS Assembly said he is happy to help Mamdani pass his tax increases. If Mamdani's agenda gets passed, my guess MSGE is going to be in big trouble and JOE will be a big beneficiary. Higher crime rates, massive inflation in NYC ($30 minimum wage), and a massive outflow of jobs from NYC since people will want 20-40% raises to deal with 20-40% inflation that will result from $30 minimum wage. @Gregmal, you suburban portfolio will do very well.

What this is all about is Nexstar pulling Kimmel from their stations because they need their merger with Tegna approved. And Trump is petty enough to hold up the merger unless they show deference.
DooDiligence Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 SNL's next. Taking a little bit longer than the month or two I predicted last June, but nobody ever bottom ticks it. Seems to be going according to plan though.

Sure. But if it’s so obvious why can’t these blowhards help themselves though?
Dalal.Holdings Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 Very disappointing that the White House is going for the loyalty playbook and going after ABC using Nextstar/Tegna deal leverage. Brendan Carr at the FCC is a joke like Pulte at Housing. No one watches Kimmel anyway, but if they try to censor/cancel stuff they don't like, I'll take the opposing side. If going after Free Speech is what they choose, I'll stand against this crap full stop.

Hes playing to his audience. Just like Sean Hannity does and Charlie Kirk did. Its the fact that Trump is so thin skinned he cant bear to have people criticize him. A $15bn lawsuit against NYT because theyre mean to him? Jesus, if youre going to go into politics toughen up.
Dalal.Holdings Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 All day watching these guys...Carr, Bondi, Patel, Bessent, etc etc just make fools out of themselves because their boss can't handle the slightest bit of criticism or shade thrown his way. Scottie Bessent has even gotten in fist fights to make sure the boss thinks he's tough. Getting to be tiring and disappointing

Well, thats the pendulum swinging a LONG ways back. It's not ideal or desired, but guess what, same shit just happened the other way. How many companies and people wasted shit tons of time and money dealing with all this DEI bullshit, or ESG mandated reporting, or "fuck big business" bullshit from Lina Khan, all because the then in power administration strong armed it?
DooDiligence Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 I don't even wait. And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything...

What are you talking about the pendulum swinging back? What politician on the left (or any other politician at all) has ever been so thin skinned they threatened the press or free speech at all? Or threatened to reject merger because they were personally insulted.

From the Merriam-Webster dictionary: fas·cism ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi 1 often Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition After the firing of Stephen Colbert, suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, attack on the MSM and firings of so many opposition employees/critics...we're getting pretty damn close! The question is, how far does the dictator push things...to Iron Man levels or to the extremes we hoped we'd never see again? Cheers!

Plenty of people were threatened or cancelled by the left over free speech. Big tech was strong armed to censor people and control content. You disqualify this because you’re obsessed with “one person”, and all I’m saying is what’s happening now is happening in response to what got us there. The left now doesn’t really like cancel culture all that much when they’re the victims of it. Perhaps the better approach would be to say gee, maybe we got carried away with it in the first place. But nah, it’s “we were fighting evil when we did it, and now we re victims of a tyrant dictator”….

In 1967 as a Navy pilot during Vietnam, McCain was shot down, seriously injured, captured, regularly severely beaten and tortured. In 1968 his captors discovered that his father was Admiral McCain and in a PR move John McCain was offered release. He refused release until all those captured before him were given their freedom. His beatings and torture continued until he was eventually released in 1973. As one who refused to fight and dodged the draft numerous times, Trump's actions upon McCain's death should have been an embarrassment to the country for which John McCain fought, but it did show the true character of the President of the United States. Sadly, few if any of the President's supporters seem to have cared. Yeah, but he lost...we don't like losers...the Trump family has no losers...ok Eric, but that's it! All winners, ok, maybe Tiffany...but we've got Baron and Ivanka! Don Jr.'s a winner, he snagged Kimberley Billfold...that's what they call her...money-grubbing, gold sucking, blow (ahem)...sorry, almost blew it there, Freudian slip...not thinking about Pete Hegeseth...handsome guy, I don't find guys handsome, but they can be handsome...I like women, like Ivanka...I mean Ivana...not anymore, now it's MEL-ANIA, not Melanoma, but MEL-ANIA...both can kill...with their looks, Ivana looks good, ahem, sorry Freudian slip again! Anyways, gotta go...need to play some golf and fire more television personalities that hate me! Cheers!

No the difference is that when the left supposedly did it, it was consumer led (much like the Bud Light cancel), not driven by the President's personal desires,.business interests or think skin. Thats a massive, massive difference.

Maybe it's a result of virtue-signalling rather than having thin-skin. But the results are the same, or worse.

I just banned Cubsfan for 48 hours because one of his posts was a little over the top. Doo is next! Isn't this ok with you Reds...your commander in chief is doing the same thing...even greater lengths to get what he wants. Are you fucking kidding me? Go back and read all of the shit-stirring stuff he's posted...not to mention just him, but others on both sides! But please use me as the foil here if necessary to get the board back to what it was before Trump ever arrived. When people casually on occasion voiced their political opinion instead of what it has become on this thread. Cheers!

People watch the show to get away from this shit...so some jokes, sure...but it was becoming all about Trump and MAGA. That being said, to use your political clout to do stuff like this...that word keeps popping up, because the definition demands it...humanity's awareness to recognize it also demands it. But that's the problem...half the population doesn't recognize it until it eventually bites them on the ass as well. And then you wonder why we silenced the likes of the Jimmy Kimmels...gnat-like comedians in the grand scheme of things...why did we do it...but then it's too late! Cheers!
