Lets revalidate your numbers first. Where did you get 45k disability benefit from? Average monthly is something like 1.7k/month.

Just a WAG

So 20K disability and then nearly 5.7 million individuals?

Roughly 9M people receive SSDI and about half recieve less than the average benefit. In total, around 15M people in the US live with disabilities that qualify them for some form of gov't support.

These aren't abstract numbers or exaggerated claims. These numbers represent people facing real, often life-altering challenges every day. It's easy to assume fraud or dismiss these programs from a distance, but I encourage you to spend some time with individuals who depend on this support, and you'll see a different story. You'll see the daily struggles, the limitations, and the resilience it takes just to get through the ordinary moments.

"And by at least one account, Mr. Xi formed his verdict of President Trump nearly a decade ago — a judgment likely to have shaped his approach to global affairs ever since, including how he handles Mr. Trump this week in Beijing.

It was late 2016, and Mr. Trump had just stunned the world weeks earlier by winning the U.S. presidential election. Mr. Xi was meeting President Obama for the final time at a summit in Lima, Peru, and he had questions.

Mr. Xi seemed baffled as to how American voters could choose someone so unconventional, according to Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser in the Obama administration who attended the meeting.

Mr. Obama tried to explain to Mr. Xi that Mr. Trump’s rise was a sign of economic frustration in the United States, in part over the loss of manufacturing jobs to China and the theft of intellectual property. Mr. Xi, in Mr. Rhodes’s telling, was displeased with the explanation.

He put down his pen, folded his arms and said: “If an immature leader throws the world into chaos, then the world will know who to blame.”"

Where is that goof @cubsfan who loved to talk about China Carney. Is it China Trump now too?

The Cult has been pretty lately given the fiasco in the Middle East and with Comrade Trump kissing Xi's ass.

Funny how the Trumpers were so critical of Biden's deal with Iran. Looking pretty good now.

And what ever happened to that "No more foreign wars" from the cult.

And now we have inflation and shortages - mostly due to Trumps disastrous war with Iran pushing up prices of.........

Petroleum, price increases hitting everything from your car to jet fuel

Fertilizer, pricing farmers out of business

Aluminium, used in everything from aeroplanes to beer cans.

Helium, critical for the medical field and in the manufacturing of semiconductors, fiber optics, pressurizing rockets, welding, specialized breathing, etc, etc.

Who is a major exporter of Petroleum, Fertilizer, Aluminium and Helium??

Oh Canada!

And the major customer as prices increase?

God Bless America!

Trump is so far ahead of you, you'll never figure it out. Check out the Canadian economy and I'll laugh at Commie Carney while you weep.

Figure Trump is in China with a show of power:

Here are the world's most powerful CEO's Xi -  you have a great country here, it would be a shame if all these guys decided to go to Vietnam, Singapore and India/Indonesia for supply chain resilience - now wouldn't it President Xi?

Not appropriate!  Just like when they do it...don't!  Cheers!

Then again - you're too stupid to figure it out.

Hmmm...that may be true.  Equally true is that he's asking for help from Xi with Iran and the SOH.  And for that, don't mess with China's business with Taiwan.  I'm guessing there's some reciprocal dialogue going on and both are indicating what they would like.  As Munger said, it's silly for China and the U.S. to not try and work together in some ways.  Cheers!

I happen to know plenty of people who receive disability payments, and yet are certainly capable of doing work.  I also know someone who has been disabled since birth who continues to work at age 70.  Mr Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate  for Senate in Maine I believe receives disability  payments yet seems to be able to work as a farmer...

Platner gets $0 ssdi. Your other comments are anecdotes and you know better than to use those as an argument for a program with 9 million recipients.

Seriously?  He received 100% disability rating from VA. % of the population on disability is up 5x in the last eighty years.   Look at all of the people in NY who "work" as home attendants.  How can the percentage of people on disability go up that much in the last 80 years?  Also, if I know six people on disability, and yet each one is capable of holding down some sort of a job, then you really think there isn't massive fraud in the system?  Look at % on disability in Utah and compare to NY and California!

veterans disability in the USA has turned into a complete game.  Of the middle-aged people I know, nobody gets VA disability payment.  Of the 35 and under group, almost all of them receive huge monthly disability payments despite being super fit, successful full time jobs, etc - something like $1600 / month for life.  Sometimes both husband and wife get the same check.  Its insane.

Meanwhile older vets are literally sleeping under tarps on the neutral ground (local term for median for those who don't speak nola)

VA and SSDI are two very different programs. VA benefit means he received a service-related injury. It would be no different than someone getting long-term disability insurance in the private sector. Sure, the program rules a bit more relaxed because of the veterans but he is staying within the bounds of that program - so no fraud. You are welcome to lobby a change to the program.

As far as home attendants in NY, are you asserting that some receive SSDI and double as home attendants, or that SSDI recipients get home attendants (which makes sense)?

As far as your Utah vs. NY/CA comment. Utah disability prevalence is higher than that of NY and about the same as CA. I think what you are trying to say is that fewer people in Utah receive SSDI. Which I guess is true if you compare to NY (3.7%) but it's about the same as CA (2.5% for UT and CA). Never mind the fact that the highest states for SSDI are Alabama, West Virginia, Arkansas, etc., in the union. Not exactly your blue "fraud" states.

National statistics just don't tell the story you are telling. The fact that you may know 6 people who are in some form "defrauding" the system may be a sign of the company you keep.

Two doors down my neighbors are both veterans, both working elsewhere now.  When I showed them my hand arthritis - which basically for me means my thumbs have moved about an inch in towards my palms, they laughed and said, "If you were in the service could be getting a fat disability check for those."

I have zero disability in my thumbs.  For about a year they hurt and I asked my Ortho about this issue.  He told me he could fuse them but that if I left it the way it was I'd quickly adjust and the pain would go away - which it did.

Fat disability check...for no disability would be the case for me if I'd chosen to file later as many do (given I was in the service).  32% of our service members retire with disability.

@gfp is right, the VA disability stuff is ridiculous. They're approving people for it left and right.

When my dad came down for my wedding, he and I went out and talked to some of his old police buddies around town, since he hadn't seen them in a while. One of them was talking about how half the force was now on military disability. I'm sure this was an exaggeration, but I'm also sure it's based in truth.

Just another liability for the taxpayer.

I spoke with 1000’s of “anecdotes” over 14 years, probed them meaningfully, in a context where they had no need to lie.

MANY are full of shit.

it’s not complicated, how many low income people are there and or with shitty low paying jobs that would prefer to get near the same money and not work? Next the only limiting factor is whatever the hoops are or lack thereof to jump through= a program growing faster than population plus inflation combined like all the others= where we are now and why it’s getting worse non linearly.

show me the stats on the investigators who search diligently for people who are full of shit…. And their mandate and desire is to rid the system of them.. oh wait they don’t exist..

All the other stats are worthless.

There is real need but also real fraud with disabilities. Seen the latter many times with people who just don’t wan to work and decide that playing the welfare system works better for them.

Same happened with Covid where people with perfect health insurance and jobs went to Medicare for free with little to know checks,. We are seeing the fallout in the health insurers now that lose insured now that no longer qualify.

However it’s hard to get to a trillion $ in annual savings going after these things. Besides that, the biggest frauds happen in broad daylight…

Make China Great Again!

https://time.com/article/2026/05/17/Chinese-farmland-trump-students/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_content=170526

During his 2024 campaign for the White House, then-candidate Donald Trump repeatedly pledged to block Chinese nationals and companies from purchasing U.S. farmland as part of his “America First” agenda, and shortly after winning a second term, his Administration moved aggressively to curtail Chinese student visas

Today, however, President Trump has reversed course on both issues, a development that threatens to isolate many in his base who view China as an existential threat to U.S. sovereignty. Trump’s pivot on the issues was drawn into focus following his visit to Beijing this week for a high-stakes summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump's new WWE intro music should be The Who's, "Won't Get Fooled Again".
