Hopefully outside of the U.S. and not with Canada!  😊  Cheers!

Trump told everyone about it years go. Lame stream media squashed it, and of course the screaming Libtards ( "Trump is a perv!") ignored it.

Got the skinny from my buddy in the EU - the commission's view and the willingness to take 15% today versus upping the stakes with retaliatory tariffs etc is very simple apparently.......

The view is that Trump has built his tariff house on shaky ground on a number of fronts.....and so better to let them collapse of their own accord than get down in the dirt with Trump for a fight on something so temporary and think strategically and long term re: a long run ally like the United States.

The 15% level has a shelf life they think of less than year and at worst perhaps 18 months.

The high leve take is this:

(1) the commission's view is that tariffs will be deemed illegal by no later than June 2026 by the US Supreme Court (all lower court indications are pointing in this direction apparently)

Turns out the EU and my buddy we're right....well played the EU!

You guys are acting like they haven't said they intend to implement the same tariffs through a different legal pathway immediately after losing the SCOTUS ruling.  Does anybody actually think today's decision is the end of it?

I'm just happy to see his handpicked justices remind the country that we still have a few checks and balances remaining in this shitshow

Yeah the tariff relief is going to function as stimulant to the economy......I mean at the end of the day the Supreme Court just cut taxes for everyday Americans....despite Trump's nonsense that other countries are paying it

Yeah you've got 122, 301....but big big picture here tariffs we're the other side of the re-industrialization project.....and what Supreme Court has done has really just confirmed the policy durability problem....if your making long run global capex decisions it would be foolish to model tariff barriers as they are today.

Which is to say that tariffs as a re-industrialization tool are pretty much dead....sure you'll get a few PR events where companies will say nice things about why they setup their plant in Ohio to please the President.....but the truth is in the aggregate data.....manufacturing jobs, trade deficit.

So tariffs have indeed raised some revenue and created a whole bunch of uncertainty which cost GDP points......net net they amounted to nothing but alot of chaos for American business.

Captain Chaos delivers again I guess!

Yup, that’s my takeaway. Add the “the SC is just trumps puppets” to the list of people whom we just completely ignore anything they have to say going forward.

@gfp you're on the right track.  Checks and balances never disappeared in spite of what many believe.  The fact that Trump is now our President shows they are stronger than ever.  I didn't read the decision but never felt that tariffs were needed for any kind of "emergency" while at the same time chuckled at all those who became crybabies at the thought that the US could do to other countries what they do to us.  As usual, life goes and we did see that for the short time that tariffs were in place, it didn't end.

The fact this wasnt a 9-0 decision on a first year law student issue tells you the court still acts on politics over law. We all knew without looking it up who the dissenters were.  If this  was a Democrat president pushing tariffs they would have been on the other side.

lol somehow your response is not surprising. Very on brand. It went 6-3 which is pretty definitive. There’s always dissenters to some degree. Ketashi with the Little Wayne hair always votes far left. That doesn’t mean the court isn’t functioning as it should, in terms of acting as a whole.

Well lets remember Trump 1.0 had credible people around him who brought him credible candidates for SCOTUS. Like lots of processes the power is actually in the shortlisting not the successful candidate.

Trump 2.0...........I shudder to think who would end up shortlisted and on SCOTUS if he got a nomination during THIS term! Look around his cabinet table (with the exception of Rubio, Bessent & JD) its filled with C & D players.

So funny, everyone and their brother talking about Trump the dictator, the death of democracy, the authoritarian - and here you go!

Checks & balances!

I can't wait till he declares himself President for Life.
