-15.5% took a hit with commodity/energy stocks turning over in 2H18. Only positions liquidated were ASFI after the special dividend and some short term bond ETFs which I used to add to my commodity positions during the declines. Current equity allocation is 37% cable, 37% commodities (non energy), 23% energy, 3% financials. Still sitting on ~55% cash and short term treasuries. 2017: 35.0% 2016: 17.3%

Boxed wine ftw. If having to pick bottles usually go for wine from a country with cheap labor. Argentina/Chile are exact quality of the More well known countries but cheaper by a good bit.

I've said cash the past 3 years, so maybe a contra move to suggest something different: Product Tankers If you want low debt, likely to survive if rates stay low: Ardmore Shipping $ASC If you want an equity stub, with shady family insider transactions: Scorpio Tankers $STNG Order book for product tankers has been at all time lows so whenever this thing turns it's going to go up like a rocket with demand outpacing supply. Which a catalyst is likely to be IMO 2020 where all shipping vessels will have to use low sulfur fuels so there's likely to be a demand spike as ports stock up ahead of the transition on Jan 1, 2020. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4216449-scorpio-tankers-inc-stng-ceo-emanuele-lauro-q3-2018-results-earnings-call-transcript STNG had a call this week where they're seeing green shoots, rates are off all time lows.

Digging up old financial information? Value Line?

See if your local library/university has Mergent Archives. Has scanned copies of old annual reports and moodys manuals. -
It’s about them becoming cannibals. Munger made comment at one of the DJ meetings that if you read between the lines that’s what he was getting at. But fully agree with KJP, unions are going after their share of the pie that they gave up during the bankruptcy period. Throw in a growing shortage of pilots avavilable and they are looking pretty now. (Of course the way the industry works is a few of the European LCC carries are going to bust soon which is going to have a lot of pilots back on the market ((not to mention all those aircraft on lease whose owners seem to be the darlings of Wall Street))

FDIC insured US Savings accounts yielding around 2.25% - 2.5% might be a better move if you are concerned about credit risk https://www.bankrate.com/banking/savings/rates/ -

great book, especially enjoyed the "inside baseball" of reporting the story from Carreyrou's prospective.

This article has been making the rounds the past month on various sites. Feel the same way I do about it when I read it the first time as I do now: There’s no good journalism schools in Michigan that you can pay in-state tuition for? Instead this guy went to one of the most expensive private schools in the country located in one of the most expensive cities in the world! Even then, he’d likely would’ve been a strong to an exceedingly strong candidate for the honors colleges at out of state schools which usually offer in-state tuition/scholarships. You tell me he couldn’t have gotten into at least one of Missouri, Arizona State, or Georgia (three of the top journalism schools in the country - all public) with in-state tuition? He blames everyone but himself. Sorry, but no sympathy.

I did, was there for the first week and a day. Had a great time. Had a long layover on the way back to the states so visited Red Square at 6:00 am and we were the only people there. It was spectacular.

Same cautions and warnings were said before the Olympics in Sochi. Turned out to be bunk for it as well. Very friendly, welcoming people. Their driving and queuing system, however, took a bit to get used to. Plus Baltika is a pretty good beer.

That side of town needs a little work. It's essentially all industrial parking lots specifically devoted to game day parking. And as it seems the only thing that's getting built in Charlotte these days are apartments, I'm sure residents will love living right besides railroad tracks.

fed our cat dry food their entire life, lived to be 16. sometimes when they are older, have to water it down to make it easier to chew but wouldn't worry about it. bonus is they'll kill birds, varmint, and snakes for you to enjoy....at least I think that's their thought process?

Opened an account at CIT bank this week because I was tired of getting nothing for my funds being held at one of the big four. Churn credit cards for bonuses. No loyalty to anybody.

Hasn't this already been going on is regards to giving preference on government contracts to women/minority ran companies?
