  1. Personally, I think it's fair to say, that what @Viking has posted just above related to the similar last post by @Gregmal has - not only some - but a lot of merit.

It is about North America not in any way being dependent on energy sourcing from Russia, while it in the past [long term and short term] has been totally different for Europe.

Please feel free here to send your rotten tomatoes and eggs my way. So much for being - in the first place - naive - later - naive and dumb.

The change to get this right for the long haul going forward for Europe - is - by its inherent logic and its nature - quite brutal for about every European citizen, exactly as brutal as it is for Russia.

This whole episode can be summed up as :

the enemy of my enemy is my enemy !?!?! Huh !

    @Xerxes,

I think we should stay careful not to oversimplify things here. The below explanation compared to yours above seems to me to be just a bit more granular here, and with shades and nuances :

  3. It seems like the western confusion is rising all over the place in MSM here Sunday morning in Europe over what actually happened in those 24 hours or so from Friday evening European Time, which to me actually is a bit comforting making me feel less dumb.

Weird and crazy Saturday, having the two main Danish TV News channels streaming simultaneusly on a laptop during the whole day, listening to one of them, shifting between them regularly.

I still can't get all the bits and pieces to add up to a coherent and consistent picture of things. Perhaps it is just because it's about that chaotic hellhole called Russia, where normal logical thinking is ... the name of a village in Eastern Sibiria.

The only thing I feel fairly confident about is that this was not a non-event. Maybe the coming days will provide clarity to some degree, ... maybe not.

  4. Impressive this morning early following how things are escalating, Twitter being in front of the Press on running basis about an hour or so, all the time.

Please don't confuse my use of the word "Impressive" as if it is something positive. I mean : A coup d'état confirmed on state television by Putin and a civil war in a country with nuclear weapon capacity - what can possibly go wrong? 🙄

  5. How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

    Answer :

    Count them yourself! :

"1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

53 to flame the spell checkers.

    41 to correct spelling/grammar flames.

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"...another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp".

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct.

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy".

109 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb group

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb group about changing light bulbs be stopped.

111 to defend the posting to this group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this group.

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique, and what brands are faulty.

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's.

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too".

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three".

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ.

44 to ask what is a "FAQ".

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs".

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again..."

    Off topic :

I follow a carefully chosen Danish Twitter account for about a couple of years now, or so. It's soo forthcoming and wise, what comes from this person every day on Twitter on about everything related to life and about everything in general, that it is to me stunning - from what I understand from the account info this man has been working in retailing all his active life, now retired :

    Today :

Little advice in the summer heat for those who have difficulty falling asleep.

I have started arguing with my wife before bed. Because then there is cold air between us!

    (Never slept better 👌)

  6. The whole complex related to the listed Swedish companies involved in the Swedish CRE market is still evolving day by day. It's impossible for me to keep up by posting in this topic on what's going on in detail.

For me, the purpose of this topic is to share, while focusing on long-only investment opportunities for the long term. I'm not anywhere near yet, considerig risks versus price.

I have for any purpose already ditched SBB, ref. my post above of June 11th 2023, but I'm not any longer the only one speculating about accounting fraud related to IFRS accounting for investment properties for SBB :

SBB Press Release [June 22nd 2023] : Comment on the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority´s investigation of SBB´s application of international accounting standards.

Likely, my next post in this topic may end up being about Wallenstam AB [WALL B.STO] and its CEO.

  7. @Luca,

    Off topic :

The situation at Mount Everest actually isen't much better, with more traffic, and that being unstainable going forward, because the climbers doing the try not paying the full costs related to the climb, or should I say climb attempt!

    Again, unsustainable business model.

Horrible story regardless, but striking how much more coverage the disaster of the five rich adventurers got than the 500 migrants that died in the Greek shipwreck last week.

I am personally of the opinion that the odium in MSM of UHNW individuals with an eccentric lifestyle and way of life is a part of the explanation of this observation of yours, @aws. Awful ticket selling, based on the general generation of envy.

May be, but he is not anywhere near carrying the total downside of his own actions and decisions. Totally reckless person.

I'm not trying to appear a heartless person in this situation, what has happened is in every aspect terrible. It is about that it is for profit tourism, where - if this goes wrong , like here, it's not the provider of the tour, that has to pick up the tap. Unsustainable business model, and the CEO did not care one whit. Tax payers from several countries -  tax payers in countries with something to contribute in the situation - have in reality been held hostages here.

  10. What I wrote above is also the official answer from Denmark to the former POTUS, when he suggested USA to acquire Greenland in like "it's just another real estate deal", and afterwards my PM Mette Frederiksen had a hard time afterwards defending her initial reponse blown out by the press all over, because it was impulsive, as if she was saying "get away from me!", after this ol' man was hitting on her! 😅

But as mentioned : With an internal catch.

And now we are full circle, if it's true she is a candidate for the next NATO Sectary General.

  11. Thanks for asking, @Xerxes,

And certainly a strategically important issue with what's going on in in the whole Arctic Area. It's like a barrel of powder.

My personal stance is that the Greenlandic people have to decide for themselves, otherwise, the rest of Denmark, called Southern Denmark, behaves like any other state with imperialist propencities.

But there is a catch. No "Block subsidy" from Southern Denmark to Greenland, if Greenland wants its own independepence. That number is around DKK 72,000 per Greenlandic capita right now, about DKK 4 B.

So : "Now grow up, or now go grow a brain!"- You can't have the best part of both ways by cherry picking.

    Source : Sermitsiaq .

My personal perception of such alternative is, that under such alternative, the Greenlandic society would start backsliding into its past, where it came from. That may be a wrong perception.

USA is already in fact also helping a lot to keep things at the place up, by running the Pituffik Air Base, formerly known as Thule Air Base, thereby pumping a lot of money into the Greenlandic economy.

  12. Thank you for some great posts to all of you keeping this "tire kicking" topic going. I was a bit in doubt if it was a good idea bumping this geriatric [<- Huhh!?] topic up. I haven't regretted one moment doing it.

Humor, witt, life wisdom and self awareness, all in one fantastic cocktail to read here!

-Also, today I actually learned something for me new here:

I had to give up and give in understanding this phrase ..., ending up capitulating on it, asking the Lady of the House [, which certainly is very well below my dignity! - She is a translator by education].

    36. Every year I feel as though I am peaking, but continue to surprise myself. But life definitely is starting to sneak up on me. Guess it’s the mid life phase. Probably lived half my life already. Almost certainly lived my best overall years. Even my oldest son, nearly 7 now, I look at and it’s like “fuck, he s growing up”. See my parents starting to resemble old people which is weird. My friends and I complain about achy backs, knees, shoulders…old people shit lol. Start getting tired earlier in the evening than I used to in my 20s. So idk, but it’s indeed been part of my pivot over the last couple years to a less consuming investment style and more durable approach to allocating capital. Gotta enjoy what you have and make the most of it all. It’s great when money becomes a less integral part of that equation.

    Greg [ @Gregmal ],

That comment about *... old people shit lol* is still  hurting a lot! 😅 - It simply sucks dearly getting old!
