This to me is just so bad form and bad manners. Undignified, and then in front of a camera. Really appalling. What a cartoon drawing of a high raking politician. Total lack of format. If you can't find something positive to say about a deceased human being, let it go, and stay quiet.

Marketing of the global military complex, here a western part of it. So ugly and counterproductive for the planet, civility, humanity & mankind.

  3. I would hardly call it "listening to", but by coincidence at some time ago, by conincidence, I some how managed to visit the following YouTube channel :

    YouTube - Malte Marten.

Example : Sunset Meditation | 1 hour handpan music | Malte Marten.

Since then, whenever I have been working or writing, reading, I have had this music running in a background tab on the PC, or on the Iphone.

Before that first visit, I did not even know of the existence of the handpan as an instrument. 🤭

-Perhaps this may even be of value to those CoBF members with babies suffering of problems to find rest to go to sleep, hitting the quality of life for the parents, too! 🙂

Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone shot down his plane for once.

    Mike [ @cubsfan],

He does not - for exactly that reason - move around much by plane, but by train.

His layers of paranoia are multidimensional, thereby also making them aggregated : There is absolutely no way back to sleeping well at night , because of what he he has already done. Great to read on the Net, that even your own mother recents you.

Understand. Russia is not exactly a joke anymore and they are a well entrenched defender. The west has the advantage for weapons, but unlikely the will to send troops.

I fail to see how Ukraine can sustain large manpower losses with an offensive.

It looks like a stalemate, war of attrition.

My comment about Ukraine running out of men before Russia was a combination of population AND casualty exchange ratio combined.

Ukraine running out of men before Russia is just patently clear just based on the strategic aims of the two sides.

Attrition ratio imbalance is patently clear based on the strategic posture/aims of the sides - dont forget Ukraine is trying to TAKE land, Russia is DEFENDING land.....the short hand military math for the casualty exchange ratio based on this posture alone is at best 2 to 1......more likely 3 to 1 in Russia's favors. It is the Ukranian men who are the end of the day going "over the top" and getting mowed down by entrenched Russian forces.

Then on top of this you just layer on the clear male 16 - 65 population size advantage Russia has over Ukraine......sure lots of bodies being put through the meat grinder on both sides......but a proportionally higher percentage of Ukrainian males aged 16-65  are getting put through it everyday.

This is exactly why those with real skin in the game here - the NATO allies in Europe - really can't afford not to ramp up support for the war effort.

If you already have said 'A', you simply must say 'B' here [to continue] [, or saying 'A' would be in vain, [and somebody [the people of your country] would take you on and calling your *BS* in the first place].

    - - - o  0 o - - -

In that respect, we are already beyond the point of no return in this situation.

Lingering does not work on, nor solve, anything.

To do what has to be done, to end this thing, is what matters. Everybody knows it, but really nobody [, or few ] approaches this issue from that angle, by now.

There is only the alternative : To ramp further up, to make an end of this.

... I believe the story is in the 25th Anniversary Book. ...

Kicking in a tiny footnote here. This must be the first time I have been made aware of the existence of this book! - at least I think so!

Anyone here on CoBF being lucky enough to own a specimen?

Found this in the 2010 Letter [issued in 2011] mentioning the book :

    Quote

... You can see why we are so grateful for this performance and deeply humbled, given all the challenges we faced over this time period. We particularly want to thank our long term shareholders who have supported and encouraged us throughout this extraordinary journey. We have published a small book, “The First 25 Years of Fairfax”, written by journalist Ron Graham, based on a series of interviews. We hope you enjoy reading our story – a copy will be given to all attendees at ours hareholders’ meeting on April 20, 2011. ...

    Also, then found this!

Now this "must have" urge starts kicking in at me!

  7. @A Humble Man,

You need to spend more time here on CoBF to understand what is really going on here at CoBF. Compilations / finds / scrapes / and funds AUMs, managing partners aren't really our concerns. Here at CoBF, we are DYI - generating our returns, over time, by ourselves, in cooperation on the board.

To me, - sorry to say - you have somehow managed to come and enter the wrong adress. I'm sorry to say so.

It’s a hypothesis at this point that the plane was shot down, but the video shown shows a vapor trail concstent with a missile. Also it appears like the plain had lost one wing which is a pretty rare occurance. So, I think the hypothesis has decent support.

We probably will never know for sure until much later after Putin is gone. I think it is in Putins interest that this remains shrouded in mystery.

A tweet by Anton Gerashchenko supporting the view of @Spekulatius

What odds could you have gotten in a Deadpool for Prizgoven(sp?) before today? In case people haven’t seen he was listed among the dead in a private plane crash in Russia today.

This is news from TASS, redistributed by other MSM. I want to see it from Reuters, before I will apply any weight to this. So much *BS* about this person posted everywhere.

For the danish folks here, @John Hjorth, I will travel with the GF to Copenhagen for the weekend, anything worth doing and not worth doing, we thought of visiting Rosenborg Castle, statens museum? What do you recommend:))

    Hi @Luca,

I'm sorry for missing your post a couple day as ago, ref. above [, too!].

The suggestions and recommendations from @frankhkii and @Gamecock-YT are actually very good.

For a weekend stay this coming weekend  I would suggest you to simply hedge the weather bringing practical foootwear and a raincoat for you both, so you can give the weather a finger, if needed to, in stead of getting more or less grounded because of it. The weather for Copenhagen at www.dmi.dk looks fairly good for the weekend. But the Danish weather gods have been quite moody in general this year.

If the weather gods are with you, a visit in Nyhavn is [almost] statutory, I would say. Personally, I have also developed over time a soft spot for the area around Skt. Annæ Plads and down to the waterfront, including the area around the outer end to the water of Nyhavn, after Hotel 71 Nyhavn, direction Skuespilhuset, ... It like an oasis to me, when the weather is good!

Rosenborg is also a great place to visit - fantastic garden - so relaxing to stay there!

If you want to hang out a bit for your self - pretty much in private with something to drink [soft / not soft], I would recommend a waterhole at Kultorvet or at Gråbrødre Torv! - The food at the restaurants at Gråbrødre Torv appear to be fairly good, too.

    Enjoy! 😃👍😎

John, I know you were probably kidding, but I was in the neighborhood and stopped by. They wouldn't let me inside here or at the stock exchange and seemed quite surprised that I wanted to see inside.

Needless to say the better half didn't find it as amusing as I did when I was questioned by security. "No, I don't have an appointment with anyone in particular...but I work in finance and I'm on vacation so it all makes perfect sense you see..."

    @Saluki,

Thank you for sharing! ... somehow I missed it at the time when you posted it!

But, yes, - you got it exactly right! Such a small, modest - but still very nice - office building, housing one of the worlds largest investors! Absolutely not something like the new JPMorgan Chase Headquarter tower / skyscraper under construction these days on Manhattan.

Your wife and you seem from the photo to have hit Banktorvet [English : 'The Bank Square'], Oslo, on a very nice day! 🙂

^^^ it’s a good point, but in the process Russia will go broke, especially if the Europeans, who have the most to lose,  pitch in with spending.

    Yes, Mike [ @cubsfan ] and @mcliu,

Yes, several European partnerships to deliver this and that [frigates, patrolships etc.] have been formed, with those generating higher GDPs in the European countries involved!

How do one measure the costs related to a certain specific warfare activity?

Not only the US military complex, whole worlds military complex exist based on having its trunks [elephant ones!] dipped deep and permanent into defence budgets of individual states all around the world.

The mayors in the cities where HII [Huntington Ingalls] has ship / sub building activities are little interested in stopping all US global involvement in warfare, as the mayor of Wolfsburg, Germany is in management consultants running lean projects at Volkswagen AG.

This is actually a great example how MSM (in this case Fox) spins a narrative to their liking. The Maui fire and the Ukraine aid have nothing to do with each either.

A disaster was declared right away which opens federal help provided the State asks for it. There is absolutely nothing that won’t be done in Maui because of the Ukraine war aid.

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/08/10/president-joseph-r-biden-jr-approves-hawaii-disaster-declaration-3/

That does not prevent Fox News to connect some completely separate  issues in a way that fits their own narrative and bias and creates a story out of nothing.

    Fox spins narratives against Biden.

    CNN spins narratives against Trump.

Both spinning narratives against China & Russia.

While the article is BS, the premise that the US wastes too much resource on costly foreign intervention instead of fixing domestic issues is not wrong.. The US is facing: Record high debts, deteriorating health, opioid/fentanyl crisis, failing infrastructure, poor roads, poor airports, poor subways, poor trains, major homelessness and crime problem in urban areas, weak & inconsistent public education.

Why is this happening in the richest & most powerful country in the world?

It may also be related to time of the year about news in general :

Danish : Wikipedia : Agurketid [Danish 'Agurketid' translated to English : Cucumber time,

    German : Saurgurkenzeit [ 😅],

English : Wikipedia : Silly Season.

    - - - o  0 o - - -

But with that said, yes , the silence around the war has become almost resounding recently ... 🤔 , perhaps MSM grabbing for straws, or making things up, to fill the pages.
