I agree the thesis has not played out but I continue to lose confidence. A big hit to my confidence was when that Andy Siegel report just quit after a few short months. That was pretty telling I think. I wanted to sell a lot of at that point a few weeks ago but it was tactically a bad time. It still remains my second largest position, but I continue to lose confidence and I'm not convinced any of the performance to date is based on company performance rather than market performance. Apologies for the bad punctuation on vacation in Aruba.
Eng12345 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 To Dalals point it does sometimes feel like a case of moving goalposts but I maintain that late 2025 is my personal deadline for MEANINGFUL buybacks

On executive departures: frankly I think they're all overpaid.

Yeah but who takes a job like that after 17 years at Merrill Lynch and then subsequently quits a few months later? I may be reading the tarot cards too much but it does seem as if something was materially misrepresented
LC Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Perhaps - but this is an incestuous industry. There is no real secret sauce that other banks are unaware of. I am pretty sure he had a good idea what he was walking into from Merrill to Citi. Another explanation is Jane & Co are planning to reduce the wealth business (e.g. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/citigroup-says-wealth-unit-sell-220652812.html) and he didn't want to end a career slashing businesses and cutting heads?
ASTA Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I sold 40% of brk the last couple of months for an average of $435. expenses, PE, and cash are the reasoning and I think there might be better opportunities that might come also, for the first time in 7 years I see that there are maybe better opportunities than brk as a staple holding. Opportunity costs of owning a large % in brk is also on my mind.
Saluki Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Sold a few META and FFH shares in my retirement account that I bought recently for a quick hit and bought more OXY. Unintentionally sold more TAYD when a resting sell order hit it's price target.
Charlie Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 I sold Bank of America shares of my mother. When Buffett is fearful, when others are greedy it is better to listen.
UK Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I am in the process of selling my main (non listed) real estate investment which was bought in 2018 and its price has ~ followed this index since. Some dry powder is coming, if the deal closes as expected soon:)
Spekulatius Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Sold $CELH starter. Concern about continuing large insider sales.
Spekulatius Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Sold most of my $BABA. Worked well enough. While a I don’t mind smaller portfolio position , that particular one does require more ongoing research to keep current than it’s worth for me.

Should have waited a little longer… If you look at the BABA post you can see that I sold out right before it popped. Ditto for TV. The ancient curse on my portfolio strikes again. Luckily, it's magic works powerfully only in the short term but fades away in the long term. When I bought Coupang it went down 50% before the curse wore off. Scorpio Tankers was down 80% at one point.
Paarslaars Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Going to keep a closer eye on your sells from now on.
Jaygo Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Slimming down my Aritzia position. I just sold about 20% of what I have after it creeped up to my 3rd largest position. Still very much a believer here, I do expect that after the 130% return this year we will have a better buy again. Even if only at $40 again. The earnings are in a couple weeks, the last Q was the bell ringer saying were back. I think this one will be the bell that says the story is still just as strong but the consumer has tightened their belts. I expect not great guidance.
Paarslaars Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Sold my BABA 90's calls, up 100% from earlier this year. Used the proceeds for some JD and PDD OTM calls.

Congrats. Wanted to do that play in early August/late July, but was too chicken. How do you think about timing for the new calls vs. rolling position into equities?

dipod Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Sold most of my PDD calls. Took some money off the table. Still some skin in the game however.
