I loved that he called her out and said "many people hate you the mainstream media", IMO we need more of that. They aren't journalists, it's all fox news now. The are framers/perpetuators of x ideas, it's not like they are truth seeking, although for some that may rank number 4 or 5 on the list, if they have the time and can fit it in. The economist has gone downhill for a decade. The funny thing is that attacking the media is exactly what a free speech absolutist would do, the opposite of hypocritical. Speaking harsh words is the only kind of free speech that matters.

Lol, people don’t even know what mainstream media is. I imagine the only thought the average American can squeeze out anymore between their TikToks and Facebook Reels is 'Me hungry.'

The Economist remains great and Elon Musk is a mentally ill buffoon.

The Economist isn’t even “mainstream media”. Thats already nonsense. 80% of MAGA doesn’t even know that this publication exists.

Elon is just making stuff up (like crime rate being high on London) and when a journalist point out that the crime rate is lower than any US city of decent size, she is now and “enemy of western civilization”.

Outside of his very narrow domain, Elon is just a shill and a Luddite. No different than an actor in Hollywood.

What makes you think 80% of MAGA can even read? Ask their leader what was the last book he read or look how MAGA followers tend to believe the outragous lies he spouts on a daily basis.

Agreed 100% - but that doesn't lend the speaker any credibility.

Like Musk here: he betrays himself when he refuses to acknowledge criticism of the politicians he backs in Europe ("what you're saying is total fiction"). It shows he is not a serious, credible person with reasonable ideas.

That doesn't make him useless, he just has to be framed properly as a sounding board or reflection, rather than a political leader.

Kind of like the crazy guy on the corner with big signs that the holocaust never happened.

I don't find any attempt to justify your words any better.  Startling as to lack of sensitivity for folks who lost entire families and pedigrees to the likes of Hitler.  "Nationalism" did not lead to Hitler and is not, in and of itself a problem.  It is but one of many variables that all came together to  contribute to 1930s Germany.

You have a perpetual desire to always be right and ignore what anyone has to say to simply support your argument.  Never did I say Trump was Hitler or like Hitler.  I said his actions on the global stage could lead to another Hitler!

This is why I ignored you for a period of time, and I was pleasantly happy to watch you argue with others.  I'll go back to simply ignoring you and any responses you feel you have to offer to me...life's too short to waste on assholes!

Pot calling the kettle black?  History, not your opining here on COBF tells us what led the rise of Germany and Hitler.    There is no basis of comparison.

Elon Musk whining about a journalist asking some real question. And pushing back on some of his nonsense . Traitor of the West. LOL

In that respect, Elon Musk is just another snow flake, for sure, taking his own record of insults etc. into consideration.

She not a neutral commentator, she is interjecting her opinion into a question.  I think Elon is a douche, but nothing hypocritical about calling how he sees it.  Europe has a problem, large sections of its population, of which I include myself, want a stop to immigration right now.

Trump., Mao and Hitler, Franco were all autocrats,  so they have methods  in common and goals that are different.

All autocrats  have in common that they believe they historic figures and above their peers and just can make up the rules rather then play by them. How far they can push it depends on how the people and institutions respond because they have by their nature very little restraint themselves.

Interesting. As an outsider (USA), I'm glad to hear this. This Berlin Pride horror is just the latest preventable incident.

I enjoyed the economist musk interview a lot. Economist is probably my favourite news publication, read it cover to cover each week, and Musk is the business leader I respect the most so go figure. I think the economist is quite middle of the road and not some leftie rag as portrayed by Elon, I’d say he’d probably have similar viewpoints to the Economist on many topics. It’s quite interesting to read the analysis of these interviews after watching them, and how different the content is portrayed. I thought it was a very normal discussion where they built a good repoire, lots of interesting back and forths, a few heated moments like any long interview but nothing out of the ordinary. Then I see the news articles after “deranged Elon musk melts down in interview”.

And yes as a fellow European I also think Europe has a bit of an immigration problem. In Ireland there has been a noticeable uptick in women violently murdered over the last few years, and a high proportion of these have been carried out by immigrant/asylum seeker. My wife is Canadian and non-white so I am sensitive to both sides, but I do agree with Elon that having immigrant men from cultures with beliefs massively in conflict to western values is causing big problems. And the trend of politicians of avoiding any reasonable discussion around this by just labelling anybody ‘far right’ is problematic.

There are likely lots of sensible people who behind closed doors think this, but the public face of this ends up being people like Conor McGregor and Tommy Robinson.

If all this was about was safety and secure borders, everyone would be aligned. In fact, they already are, as the interviewer mentions.

But the issue is Musk is supporting pseudo-autocrats and conflating that support under the guise of border security. Which as mentioned, is a point he totally dodges, because he is not a person to be taken seriously in any political context.

Tsk, tsk - so many TDS victims. Definitely love the silly comments about Trump being an “Authoritarian” - yup , just like the powers bestowed upon him by the voters & constitution.  Board in need of a US Civics class..

in the meantime, Trump will continue to obliterate Iran after showing extreme patience and tremendous bravery in a needed event that may seal his midterm defeats.

Unless of course, he continues to expose both voter fraud and more looting of the US Treasury, at the hands of the Democrat lunatics, who continue to lose out to their growing Commie base.

Its so much fun to read the lame brain comments of a party without any political power.

What do you believe are Trump's greatest strengths? What are his greatest weaknesses? He is a human after all, so it a requirement that he must have at least some.

I personally see willful ignorance as a major source of evil. The idea of standing firm in the face of reason has led to endless amounts of human suffering throughout history. It's especially sad because those who are willfully ignorant may not themselves be evil, but their ignorance fuels the powers of evil. It feeds off of them like a parasite to the growth of humanity.

Read people. Your logic and reasoning are only as good as the data that you feed into it. Just because we live in an age of endless information, does not mean that all of that information is true and/or valuable. It is a skill to efficiently wade through this informational mess we've created.

I'll also add that these are not problems simply confined to one political party or another, though it may seem that way sometimes; it is ultimately a problem confined to human nature. And it seems to be something that we're incapable of getting rid of entirely.

Well you're personally wrong....Many of histories most brutal dictators and leaders were extremely well read. Stalin and Mao for example were quite well educated and both voracious readers with extensive libraries. Hitler, Pol Pot, Napoleon, Mussolini, Saddam, all read extensively.

Reading the economist doesn't make you a good person Blake. It just makes you a person who reads the Economist...
