This Kimmel thing isn’t about cancel culture. It’s about the King giving someone an axe because he doesn’t like what they said. Much more dangerous than cancel culture where someone gets fired for writing a mean tweet.

At what point do the non cult Trump supporters like the Ackmans of the world recognize the danger? I guess never, given they supported this lunatic post Jan 6.

Isn’t this exactly what the Biden administration did to people on Twitter when they were posting memes? It’s like the roles have flipped completely. I think it was wrong then and it’s wrong now, but boy there are some serious mental gymnastics going on.

Quote

On Rogan's show, Zuckerberg said the administration had asked Facebook to remove from its platform a meme that showed actor Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at a TV screen advertising a class action lawsuit for people who once took the Covid vaccine."They're like, 'No, you have to take that down,'" Zuckerberg said, adding, "We said, 'No, we're not gonna, we're not to take down humor and satire. We're not gonna take down things that are, that are true.'"

That meme was included as evidence in an amicus brief filed by congressional Republicans in a case that made it to the Supreme Court in 2023.

Yea it was wrong then absolutely.

And every president has overstepped authority.

None of them close to the autocratic threat that Trump is, mainly because he actually wants to be a dictator and also because he has a cult following.

I mean I know everyone thinks we ve come a long way….but it really wasn’t that long ago where folks literally had angry packs of rabid libtards trying to “cancel” them for, what did they call it? “Being a Trump supporter”….yup, like literally just being suspected of it, was enough to cause problems for people. That’s one of the more horrifying things I’ve ever seen gain widespread traction in my life. Voting for one of two candidates promoting huge droves of people into a rage that’s only satisfied with ruining you…even a few months ago they tried coming out to get the girl Sydney Sweeney because of her voter registration…So maybe yea when you see some walking definition of the elitist liberal cabal in filthy LA get peacefully removed from his multimillion dollar propaganda platform…there might be a little bit of…well….something other than outrage.

Jeeze you guys can't just admit this is obviously another case of Stumpy and Co abusing their power.

Call a spade a space, please! Drumpf isn't even threatening you guys and already you're bending over 😄

I mean I know how hard it is for you guys, to a hammer everything is a nail and to a TDS infected person, everything is....you know. We have the mind readers here whom know everything going thru Trumps head; we have the Nazis everywhere folks, we have the whole gang...but here's also another angle that youre just completely writing off.....maybe, just maybe a lot of people voted for Trump because they wanted revenge for a lot of the BS of the last 5-10 years. Maybe they're 100% OK with Trump going after people who were happy to be a part of that, like Kimmel...and guess what? Whats a little scary, is while y'all quibble about "autocrats" and "trampling" of the same rights you guys were happy to see abused previously when the shoe was on the other foot...what if people are in fact 100% OK with this as long as its directed at "the other team"?(you know, like many of the crying left was previously)

Thats exactly how its supposed to work.  You piss people off and they stop using your product. Bud Light, American Eagle, Cracker Barrel, Target, etc.  Thats the power of the consumer.

Thats not what's happening here at all.  This is the head of the FCC threatening consequences because his boss has a thin skin and doesnt like being teased.  And he continues to say that networks could have licenses revoked if they insult Trump. This is government censorship straight up.  Its not cancel culture its dictator stuff.

The whole "whataboutism" is just the most ridiculous bunch of crap.  I expect that from Cubs.  The stuff Trump is doing doesnt even come close to whatever perceived slight you felt.  Threatening network licenses if they say bad things about you vs getting upset at pronouns is night and day.  Putting troops on the street because you feel threatened by sidewalk rainbows?  Really?

And let's not even get into the long term economic and international reputation damage for the US all to won the Libs.  I suspect the farmers of the Midwest are the first of many thinking "well damn I hate the Libs but I didnt vote for any of this"

Well, again, people have become tribal and theyre OK with this. And certainly as fuck not gonna give two hoots now because folks like you who were quiet about it when their side was doing it all of a sudden dont like the taste of their own medicine. Thats just how it is, thats not my opinion, thats not the "mind reading shit" some of you guys do...thats the state of the country. After all the censorship, and targeting, and weaponization of the government....they dont think "this is wrong"...they might've when it was happening prior...but you guys loved it and enabled it(and ironically now deny it...like you legit even claimed the left "supposedly" was cancelling folks when the left is like the Babe Ruth of Cancel culture)....now that the shoe is on the other foot, some folks aren't freaking out about the constitution...they're cheering it on and saying "Colbert down, now get ......"....because they saw how this game was played already.

And for the record, the "whataboutism" wailing, literally translates to "I dont want to be accountable, my team can do it but yours cant cuz we're only gonna talk about you"....which works well until your lose control.

This is just a generalizing rant.  The number of people who actually give a crap about pronouns and gender and rainbow sidewalks is tiny.  Loud but tiny. And nobody made a huge deal out of it because why would you? Its annoying but it impacted almost nobody and definitely wasnt meant to harm anyone. As you like to say about everything - who care?  Just ignore it.

What Trump is doing is undermining the constitution, removing freedoms, suppressing dissent and using the office as his own private gift machine and bullying tool.  To suggest the 2 are even comparable is simply a joke.

This would be true if the transgressions were even remotely comparable.  I dont recall having dozens of government actions having to be opined upon by emergency Supreme Court actions during any administration before (of either party).  I certainly dont recall any previous President suggesting they should pull Fox's license.

Well, see thats the other problem...perhaps blowing the entire arsenal on cries of "racism" and "Hitler" the last decade now totally backfires because....youve already made all these claims ad nausea...and no ones cares anymore. Kinda like that whole boy who cried wolf story.

Because as has been demonstrated pretty clearly, when one side does it you dont consider it a problem. Its almost like you guys wanted to do your thing and then when the board flipped just call it even...I dont think thats gonna fly with most people, especially the ones who were on the other side of it all.

What?  What do cries of racism from a small but vocal group have to do with Trump trying to override the constitution to make himself a dictator?

And the only politicians I'm aware of who compared Trump to Hitler are JD Vance and RFK.

When did the other side do it?  Or any other President?  When did they send troops into cities over the objection of local government?  When did they threaten to pull licenses for broadcasters who made jokes about them?  When did file lawsuits against newspapers for endorsing the other candidate?

You keep making these broad generalizations that simply aren't true. To compare what Trump is doing to what any other president has done ever is ridiculous. Its not even close

Trump has the lowest approval rating of any President in history. And is negative on every single issue at this point.  Theres a reason he is begging for gerrymandering and now wants a midterm convention - he's really worried he's losing the independents and minorities he needs to win.  If Republicans start seeing him as a midterm liability (post primary) its going to get really interesting, really fast.

Yeah, Trump‘s  approval rating is not a chart i would buy:

How many times in the thread, like with “not understanding tariffs”, “trumps a pedo”, even earlier getting blasted about blatantly cherry picking polls, even as I pointed out… claiming there was no censorship under democrats, or that the left didn’t engage in cancel culture…how many of these hills that are self evident you wanna die on?

The larger point is that this is where things are at….its probably not getting better any time soon.

Small but vocal group? Lmfao, add another one to the above list. That’s literally all the left leaning folks have done for the past decade…but now it’s just a small group….

What does our back and forth here have to do with Trump suppressing freedoms, threatening the press and trying to undermine the constitution?

The logic of tariffs (which have been deemed unconstitutional) still hasn't been ex0lained by the administration or anyone here (why on earth are we tariffing UK 25% or Brazil when we have a trade surplus there?).  Trump is desperately refusing to release the Epstein files which he claimed he would do.  Neither of these things have anything to do with what we are talking about here.  Wanting to get one up on me doesnt justify what Trump is doing to the constitution.

Colpa tua.  Why do we even have a Trump running the show?  Because the electorate said anything but the left.  Every swing state.  If you didn’t want Trump why open the borders. NYC was flooded with illegal migrants.  Completely insane and unmanageable.

This from the public accessible portion of the latest Doomberg:  “On a scale akin to the US Interstate Highway System, and even the nation’s electric grid itself, US natural gas infrastructure is reaching a tipping point beyond which it will bequeath future generations an inheritance the people of Britain can only envy. Already, it stands among the most complex, integrated, and valuable machines humanity has ever built.”  Dems were against this.

So because Dems can’t show responsible governance, we have to be subjected to Trump.  80/20 issue? Guess which side Dems take.  So regarding having a ridiculous narcissist as president, I sorry my friend, colpa tua.

Interesting development as the Saudis have forged a military  alliance with a Pakistan (which has nuclear weapons) as well as access to Chinese weapons. I think this is about ringfencing Iran (which is a huge threat to the Saudis). Pakistan needs Saudis funds.

“This undoubtedly kills IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor), the Biden administration's flagship grand strategy to counter China's Belt and Road that was supposed to connect India to Europe via Saudi Arabia.”  On no not that grand strategy!

We should probably be pivoting away from global overreach.  Repeating the successful Cold War playbook would be unwise with China and in general in an emerging multipolar world.  China has learned a valuable lesson, which eventually brought the Soviet Union down.  Namely geopolitical influence follows economic strength.

If we pour money into attempting to counter or otherwise “optimize” our influence in every corner of the world, we will actually be increasing our likely downfall.  So don’t be alarmed by these kind of headlines.  A strategic recalibration to Western hemispheric concerns is the play.

We will still engage and trade with the world, but we can’t expect to be globally dominant.

P.S.  How’s this for hyperbole:  “I don't think I'm exaggerating by saying that this truly is the US's Suez moment”
