I finally understand why Europeans are so upset about the capture of Maduro: Sounds like there's going to be another fine levied at some U.S. bottled water company, probably 5% of global revenue
-
What's missing here is that China emits *more* CO2 per unit of production than Europe would have in producing the same goods. They shifted CO2 emissions to China and increased Global CO2 more than if that production stayed home. On par with most leftist ideologues, they just make the problem they are trying to solve much worse.

Sure you did. I rarely spend my time in this thread. It's always amusing to check in when a major event occurs though to laugh at some of the takes and I have not been disappointed this time.

This stuff is really amusing... https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/10/world/americas/biden-bounty-nicolas-maduro.html The final act of the (failed) Biden Presidency was increasing the bounty to $25 Million for the arrest or capture of Maduro...

Of course, but the people who are all upset about Maduro today were cheering on & partaking in the intervention in Libya ! So much with "respecting sovereignty of a nation". Pure hypocrisy. If the operation over the weekend were conducted by a Dem president, they'd all be celebrating of course !

Everyone: Let's discuss Trump snatching Maduro in Venezuela pretty much flawlessly @dealraker : Some unintelligible gibberish about "Walz assassination of Hortman claims". "down on diapers age special needs level." "Trump's playing golf". Classic straw man drool descending into irrelevant/unintelligible gibberish.
-
I'm rereading your post full of straw men and gibberish and wondering why I wasted time responding to it in the first place:

What was the plan in Libya? Should I remind you that the West basically fed Gaddafi to a mob where he was beaten to death? Is that form of justice more in line with "rules and laws" and a "rules based global order"? At least Maduro gets his day in court and is alive... Remind you that the Libya intervention was led by Europe/France/Obama/Hilary Clinton. Here is the result: https://www.humanrightsresearch.org/post/the-scandal-of-a-slave-market-in-libya

If the U.S. cannot convict on the drug charges, we can give him back to the people of Venezuela to try him on his many other crimes against them. I am sure they will be happy to take up the charge once a truly legitimate government is in charge of the country.

The thing about socialists is that they are just not very competent. In fact, they simply don't believe in rewarding competence or merit.

https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2026/01/05/tim-walz-drop-out-minnesota-governor-race Your boy Walz dropped out...guess the fraud in his state must be insane. This clown could have been VP. He's truly a clueless guy who has no business running anything, but somehow he was good enough for Harris to choose as a running mate. The U.S. brought a guy who was indicted in 2020, someone the Biden administration put a bounty on, to NYC for a court case. The rule of law says that Maduro was indicted and needs to be tried. Even Europeans did not recognize Maduro as the rightful President of VZ. The rest of the government is in place in VZ. There are currently no American boots on the ground in VZ. Comparisons to Russia invasion of Ukraine are laughable. Back to your armchair analysis

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-01-05/venezuela-s-rodriguez-asks-us-for-cooperation-after-maduro-raid?srnd=homepage-americas Quite the reversal in just a day... Comparing this to Iraq is silly because the rest of the VZ government remains in place. Of course, the haters will criticize Trump on that too ("why isn't he putting Machado in control!?"). On one hand, they say U.S. should not do regime change, but on the other they say we should put Machado in place... Amusing all the armchair experts on here, but the situation keeps evolving in favor of the Trump admin. Biden admin had a bounty on Maduro. He was not the legitimate President of VZ even according to the useless EU. Claims that this operation "weakens" the U.S. according to two guys named Vlad is funny. The operation was incredibly well executed with no loss of U.S. lives...I don't think anyone else could have pulled this off Compare the capabilities of the U.S. with the rest of the Western world who express that they are "Deeply Concerned" and/or come up with a spineless Statement whenever something happens in the world. The U.S. acts, the rest of the Western world reacts. That's all they can do--react.

Still laughing at the energy bros who thought this guy would be good for their oil stonks https://www.nbcnews.com/business/energy/us-will-look-tap-venezuelan-oil-reserves-trump-says-rcna252054

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-12-22/eu-faces-renewed-us-ire-after-esg-cutbacks-fail-to-calm-tensions This is quite illustrative of the absurdity of EU regulations: ESG proponents think investors actually care about ESG before deciding to invest in something . If that were true, why is no one willing to invest in ESG Land (a.k.a. Europe)??? They are trying to force U.S. companies to disclose stuff on "human rights" and ESG on activities outside of Europe...meanwhile, everyone *knows* that Chinese firms doing business in Europe will skirt these rules and simply lie about their "ESG" and "human rights" activities outside of Europe. Yet again, idiots in Brussels keep giving China more gifts through sheer stupidity and naivety. That 15% tariff deal might not last as it seems even Congress is ready to retaliate against more EU alphabet soup creations "CSDDD" and "CSRD". Only the geniuses in Brussels could dream up something so stupid.

https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/in-germany-everyone-is-a-defense-manufacturer-now-139ca922 The nice thing about European defense spending is that the idiots in Brussels cannot easily stand in the way as it is a core concern of the sovereign nation

Trump is responding to China. That's it. U.S. core geopolitical priorities are now in the Indo-pacific.

Best part of European chemical industry carnage is Einhorn's Sohn picks each of the past two years were European chemical companies (Solvay 2024 then Lanxess 2025). Guy is a good source of comedy. Now, these could one day rocket if clueless European regulatooors move out of the way. The problem is when you invest in these things, you are betting on European officials doing the right thing. No wonder Warren didn't touch this continent. So many clueless nitwits in charge

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-12-10/germany-s-chemical-plants-operate-at-lowest-level-in-20-years German chemical capacity utilization lower than the GFC lows. I think if European regulators and politicians work harder, they can get it even lower…they should continue asking Xi for help BASF might need to relocate more plants to China that are powered by nice, cheap coal electricity with cheap fossil fuel inputs—generating CO2 on the other side of the world, far away from the purview of the Greens.

This is pretty much how elites react to anything they disagree with. Milei? "Devastation". Nigel Farage? "Devastation". Shutting down the southern U.S. border? "Devastation"

The problem with oil investors is they forget that the industry goes through pain that can last decades Oil supply going up. China churning out EVs and dumping them across the globe Shale drillers -- the high cost producers -- not getting the memo

I agree. American ports need to be automated. The longshoreman can hold the president hostage and extract demands unfortunately
