Should just move to Southeast Asia and live a normal existence for the price of vanlife at home

So Biden is going to keep the tap on the SPR until at least November. If Europe doesn't have gas until at least April. What happens when the USA turns off the taps, runs out, or needs to be refilled and the artificial surplus suddenly disappears? Then throw in a re-opening China. How do you lose in this set up? A giant recession that kills demand? The supply side is still going to be an issue.

This thread sheds some light on why Putin might benefit from blowing up his pipeline:

Isn't the easiest way to play to wait until China inches toward re-opening. Not going to happen until after middle of this month at least. Isn't the next for sure catalyst for oil prices? Which I saw something on the singapore news this morning that it was a big deal Xi and the politburo had photos of a meeting taken without them wearing masks. Taiwan and Japan are both reopening this month. Seems like it's got to be getting close.

It's hard to dispute the financial arguments. I guess I'd have to go back when the Fed was pumping timing to all the vaccine stuff he was talking about.

Setting up for another October crash at this rate.

agreed. good and entertaining book. similar to most finance books kind of can be tough to follows some of the characters but much easier than The Caesars Palace Coup. But McCrum does a good job weaving the stories amongst what was going on with himself at the FT and what was going on with Wirecard. Heads should have rolled at BaFin.

Headed to Doha and Bali, with maybe a stop in Kuala Lumpur. Apparently nobody wants to go to Doha in the middle of summer, lol.

Where Does the Global Economy Go From Here?

That's assuming they hadn't already done that since they haven't had to make a payment for two years. It will be interesting if this moral hazard causes more not to pay their student loans at all, just waiting for the next debt jubilee to take the debt down again. -

Yes but the meme stock crowd will get washed out soon enough. I'd argue with some market fundamentals starting to tip over the bulldozer is quickly catching up to the penny picker-uppers. In 20 years we'll look at r/wallstreetbets as the modern day equivalent of the 1920s bucket shop. Until then it's just a waiting game. Enjoy the circus.

What's your plan when the stock drops 30% and the only reason you own it is because X, Y, and Z own it? What if they're all selling out but you won't know until the next 13F comes out in 3 months?

Where Does the Global Economy Go From Here?

Has there ever been a recession that hasn't been forecasted as 'mild and shallow'? Almost sounds like the line that any inflation will be 'transitory'..... -
Oh didn't know there was a form: Where do you have vacation homes? None. Where are your repeat vacation spots? Don't very often repeat places. Place I still enjoy going to no matter how many times I've been there: Japan, London, Madrid, Hong Kong (maybe not now?), Vietnam, and New Zealand. What are must see places? (North America vs Internationally) It's all relative to what interest you have. There's places that have incredible art museums, but if you don't care about art then it's not really of value to you. I think we privileged first world citizens should really spend time in third world countries. It's eye opening in so many different ways. I'm also a student of history so I think you can't help but be moved, challenged , and do some serious soul searching visiting recent history sites, for me it is World War 2 sites. Places like Hiroshima, Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Dachau, and Auschwitz are those for me. It's also actually been very enlightening being in the Baltics right now. There's Ukrainian flags everywhere. People are very proud of their support for Ukraine. It isn't something in the news that gets put in the 'C' block of the nightly news like it is back at home. What is your next adventure? Currently on a tour of Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Finland. Looking at heading to Bali for a month or two after this.

What Would You Do? (Advice Wanted, Not Investment Related)
Gamecock-YT replied to AzCactus's topic in General Discussion
Yeah you might not get as many bites giving full disclosure but you will certainly piss people off if you join then immediately go on paternity leave. But if you do go that route the banks give some of the most generous parent leaves. My team hired a lady and within a couple of months announced that she was pregnant, went on maternity leave for 26 weeks, came back for like a month, and put in her two week notice. So she "worked" for less than 12 months. Guess a good gig if you can swing it. -

Good read, the author got quite a bit of access it seems like, maybe more than you would except from a sitting fed chairman. Hopefully there's a part 2 in 5-10 years time as we see what the fallout is from their actions
