I agree with this. The bans should maybe also double each time a previous offender recommits @Parsad . Otherwise, I would find 30 days for repeated spamming too little and too easily abused. Food for thought, Sanjeev, thanks for taking care of this wonderful board.

Unfortunately carry trades are not allowed on EU IB Irish branche. Otherwise i would short the Yen and borrow a lot and then convert it to USD and buy US assets no problem. If your IB branche allows this to me this is a pretty amazing longterm bet against japan, declining birthrate, high debt etc by profiting from appreciation in US assets. Worst case you lose 30%ish if the yen appreciates for several reasons which you should technically be able to make back over the longterm in buying proper US assets. I like the bet but cant do it.

If the AI bubble like the Internet, in what year are we now?

Its okay with me if someone in china knows that i am looking for a new GPU or whats the best way to install something in my house. I am not using the language model for anything privat, its not a messaging app, i use it to get factoids etc. ChatGPT is profit-driven and the chinese government is not hostile towards me, why would they be? They want me to come there as a tourist, spend money and praise China. There is literally no difference for me to use a chinese language model or a US one. -

Spot on. Better and better AI will commodify most industries that are assetlight and do not have protected IP (like Nintendo etc). That introduces insane uncertainty over longer timeframes, lets say 10-15 years. You still have network effects that are a moat (facebook, tencent etc) but many things will face pricing pressure. -

OpenAI will do the same, US government will do the same. Literally no difference. -
Okay, announce 500b Stargate thanks with the support from trump, now tariffs on taiwan who makes chips needed for stargate... https://au.pcmag.com/computers-electronics/109466/trump-to-tariff-chips-made-in-taiwan-targeting-tsmc Thoughts on this by the board? What should taiwan do? Military aid also being cut off. Would be madness for taiwan chip companies to move their production to the US because they would harm their own country severely...

I have tried all, gemini, chatgpt 4o, o1 and perplexity. Perplexity still my favourite because of the clean interface but deepseek seriously offers a lot of value since its free and can do similar things... -
Hope this is okay to have on this board. Today Semis are down because the chinese have built good technology

TSMC is down -10%, SuperMicro is down -10% and thats only the premarket. Lets see what happens! Okay, but these are significant moves in the semispace that are worthy of the discussion no? Perhaps not a "bubble pop" so far but at least it looks like a start...i think COBF should have a thread that discusses "why the market is down or up" no? Thanks for sharing. -

Now the question is, how will protectionist Silicon Valley react? Ban foreigners from accessing these language models by implementing ID verification and strong AI user limits? That would stop the fast scaling and adoption... -

All that was necessary to pop the bubble was a tiny research lab in China with a tiny budget that now wipes out trillions of dollars in marketcap value. -

A lot of the capex has already been committed...thats why the market goes down. I dont know how many billions up front have already also have been committed. A lot of uncertainty. -

US down, China up. Some rotation is happening. Whoever makes the best AI is king in this market. -

Interesting take and worth thinking about folks. Not sure about 50x better efficiency but its surely ruining perplexity, gemini, and chatgpt if the model is as good for free... -
Yeah, Biotech usually too complex for me too but i liked a lot about what i read regarding Novo so i bought a tracker

Yeah there is some truth to that. Democrats where smarter in hiding their shenanigans.

To me all of this is quite concerning, the US government look a bit like some self-serving and self-dealing buddies, then on top these meme coins and their own private enterprises...will be a box of surprises and certainly a deterioration in reliability compared to a Biden or Obama administration.

On the other hand, the US has now become as politically opaque as china which is good for china to get better global partners. And also: Basically if you want to go green you need China now. Trump was financed by old energy capitalists, elon is an error that hangs along and tries to get the best out of it (tiktok and spacex)
-
RFK JR was good to get them into power mate, now trump can do what he wants who cares. That the top mag 7 ceos sit next to the trump family while politicians sit further back tells you everything that is going to happen. It was never BETTER to go long mag 7 than it is now, very ironic. Just be alligned with the present billionaires and who have good relations with trump. Zuckerberg already bowing to the master
-
But he said Elon can buy TikTok, maybe elon then stops complaining and can own another major media platform to solidify the new trump, musk rulers. Who is willing to bet that at some point they will change the term limits for the presidency? Only a matter of time...
