Here's another question:

Recognizing Canada has a defense spending shortfall of approximately $13 billion per year are the tariffs justified? Is a tariff of 25% on say 300 billion worth of goods a measured and appropriate response to a long term committed ally and bilateral partner?

While we're at it:

Do you stand by deportations without hearings? Without a hearing what gives you the confidence that any of these people are who ICE says they are?

Here's another one:

Do you think it is appropriate for the top executive to call for impeachment of a judge because he does not like the result of a case? Do you believe in a separation of powers as a cornerstone foundational principle of our republic?

Do you think the launching of a crypto currency that subsequently pumped and dumped is indicative of any sort of corruption? Do you think it is presidential? What would you tell the people who bought the currency in support of the president who may have lost significant dollars?

Why is Canada in NATO?

@cubsfan , if you do not know the answer to this question you might want to spend some time on that important topic called history. I’ll give you a hint… when it mattered - WW1 and WW2 - Canada could be counted on to support its allies. Actually, Canada did much more than its fair share.

Or are you simply a black and white guy? Do you see gray at all cubs?

There is no point.  Trump derangement syndrome is real,  but so is Trump adoration disorder.  Cubs somehow feels the need to deflect nearly every criticism of Trump and defend nearly every utterance of Trumps.  I don’t get it.

@Eng12345  You're making me laugh - last time I had to answer this many stupid questions - I was in my college finals.

Knock yourself out brother.

All over Canada pledging to allies to pay their fair share - but reneging, even with $60B surplus.

Oh well - screw NATO & Europe as they say up North.

@Viking  No reason to tie yourself in knots making up excuses. Just admit it already.

"Yeah, we have a $60B trade surplus and plenty of cash - but have no intention of funding the protection of Europe for our NATO commitments - especially when the USA will do it for us"

I guess you don't care to share your thoughts unless it is a convenient point for you to make.

Discourse can be difficult, but it is important to a productive society. If that's something you believe in.

Thanks for the lecture @Eng12345

You're still making excuses for underfunding of NATO - critical promises made by the Canadian gov, which is very damaging for NATO defense and Ukraine. Oh well.

Trump is not a career politician either, went to Penn, worked in business all his life.

Carney is a continuation of all the same stuff Canada has had for the last 10+ years.  Advisor to the liberal government.

If I was a Canadian I’d choose Poilievre all day, every day.

Sweet,

Mark Carney (current PM) was asked to be the finance minister....of get this a conservative government back in 2012.  The PM at the time was Stephen Harper, mentor to Poilievre.

I am beginning to understand that being a Republican's is part of one's identity, but consider this...Trump used to support democrats, Elon used to support democrats...neither of those guys actually care about ideology.

I wise ole man told me a long time ago...Politicians are like diapers...eventually they get dirty and need to be changed.

Left/Right/Republican/Democrat, they are all the same.

I’m not a Republican, I’m not even American lol.

I am also not Canadian, so take it my views with a pinch of salt.

But I am a conservative, and I’m much more aligned to Poilievre politics and views than the ones the Liberals offer.

By the way @cubsfan if you read my posts critically, I have not once made an excuse for any Canadian spending shortfall in regard to NATO.

I have simply asked a few questions, which are apparently rhetorical.

It's a damn good start, when you have had a free ride for 10 years, and don't plan to pay your bills until 2032.

Okay great, we can begin to understand one another.

Since you acknowledge that Canada has underfunded NATO since at least 2015, wouldn’t it make sense that the Trump administration considered this during the USMCA negotiations in 2018? Why the need for tariff if it is to pay for the NATO shortfall?

I refuse to accept that. It’s easy to frame things that way, but now more than ever, meaningful discourse is crucial. Too many media and social media platforms push polarizing opinions with shallow, thoughtless responses that drive people to extremes. That’s why forums like this are so important—we should fully engage in thoughtful discussions and truly understand each other’s perspectives.

And also, do so in person as well.

What?     Why don't you just let everyone off the hook and dissolve NATO.

Listen, I’d agree with you normally, but is that what you are getting from cubs?  No, he’s basically trolling and saying random cultish things.  Where is the grey, the context etc?  It’s all black and white bs.

In simplistic terms - why didn't President Trump address this cRiTiCaL issue in 2016-2020

Ghost -- appreciate it---  we needed a change of pace for once.

The usual theme of Orange Man= bad was getting a little stale.

But not to worry, the Trump/Elon haters are back: Trump, bad  Elon, worse  Crying about Tariffs,

democracy is in trouble,  the sky is falling...

Back to your regular circle-jerk.

Well according to authoritarian POTUS anyone who doesn’t support him isn’t a Republican, or conservative.

Rino chief justice just called out POTUS for his authoritarianism. I’m sure the MAGA crowd will now go after him like they went after Amy Comey Barret!
