UK Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Maybe it is just me, but I still do not understand how some people in all this could be rooting for a misfortunes of the most important country (generally in a good way) on earth or some of its endeavors, just because of their political preferences or personal dislike of an elected personalities:) I have already posted this, but I will repeat: https://www.reuters.com/article/business/trump-not-wrong-on-everything-berkshires-munger-idUSKBN15U2OT/ "He's not wrong on everything," said Munger, referring to Trump. Sure you can hate him still, but what else rational is here do about it other than to wait for another elections:)?
Sweet Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Just last week, Trump mocked the UK prime minister saying he didn’t want or need the UK aircraft carrier, and the UK was trying to join a war with Iran which was already won. Historically, he has been saying that the war in Ukraine is not Americas war and it’s a European issue. For the record I think dealing with Iran is the right call, but it’s looks like there was no plan other than bombing and hoping the Iranian people would overthrow their leaders. Seems a bit dumb.

You can't keep quoting Munger for something he said in 2016, when he did not see what Trump just did. Munger also said it would be foolish to think that China and the U.S. could not get along...it would be in the best interest of both countries. He was a pragmatist...like Franklin...and wanted society to better itself. That's not always Trump's modus operandi! Cheers!

Well maybe, but can you imagine him or Buffett cheering some failures of the entire country because of their dislike of POTUS? And China question I think is still open and not sure it had better constructive solution option under previous administration anyway.
Sweet Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) Yeh, but some people are also drawing an equivalency between disliking Trump and disliking America. What others said a few pages over, about tariffs on allies, threats of annexation, constant berating and calling them useless… nobody here on this board would act like that to their friends and neighbours and then expect favours from them in the next breath. I'm not sure people are cheering it, as much as they are resigned to accept the outcome of the actions of a radical president, who went and did something without thinking through the consequences and made unilateral decisions without his allies. You make a massive mess, after alienating and targeting everyone who you now seek help from, and offer nothing in return for breaking your word in agreements, unions and partnerships that have spanned decades! Is this not essentially an Aesop's Fable come to life? Cheers!

It's weird that Trump's own psychology doesn't operate that way! He could be calling you "fat piggy" today and then wondering why you wrote an unflattering article about him tomorrow. Or he could just as easily sue you in court for $1B and then wonder why you won't sell him a piece of property he wants that you own. It's a complete disconnect...everything is transactional...no one could truly dislike him in his own head...one action is never correlated to something else he says or does (or at least he doesn't see how they would be viewed as aligned or related)! Cheers!

Every problem is a nail to be hammered and it’s undermining his agenda and America’s influence.

John Hjorth Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) The Print [March 10th 2026] : 'More Fun To Sink Ships Than Capture': U.S Prez Donald Trump Recalls, Laughter Follows | Iran War 81 87 Iranian Marines bodies recovered from the Sea after the sinking by torpedo from US submarine of Iranian frigate Iris Dena. Likely mostly young Iranian men. Add 45 ships more, many likely smaller. And POTUS having fun with it. Christ, it's disgusting. Ugh! Shame on him. Furthermore it sounds like lots of participants in the room have great fun out of it, too. All full-blown disgusting a**holes. It's nauseating. Edited March 16 by John Hjorth

In the years to come Danish elementary school kiddos will in history classes be taught the 47th President of United States of America threatned to break up the Danish Realm. In USA it will be lost in the countrys memory as a nothing burger. When the Greenland fuzz was at it's highest, I remember in Danish TV seeing a Danish reporter on the street in central NYC asking bypassers on the walkway, what their opinion was about POTUS' then 'Greenland work in progress'. Nobody answered, all asked refused, declined to answer for the mic and in front of a camera lens, where on the mic there was a label 'TV2'. And honestly, why not? I understand the angle, honestly. Why the heck relate in public to a situation about 56 K people, when you're a citizen in a country of 345 million? The perception of 'the thingy' simply depends on who you are! - As always! Sure, but as with most issues and events, we'll have to wait and see what, if anything comes of it.

For the record I think dealing with Iran is the right call, but it’s looks like there was no plan other than bombing and hoping the Iranian people would overthrow their leaders. Seems a bit dumb. Pretty simple choice: 1) Free world accedes to US demands for military escorts through the SOH and the Red Sea; or 2) negotiate with Iran for free passage. Mines in the water, blowing up whatever traffic is non compliant; refused tariff removal for escort participation ????, take the negotiated option https://www.cnbctv18.com/india/india-in-talks-with-iran-for-safe-passage-of-oil-tankers-through-strait-of-hormuz-jaishankar-araghchi-ws-l-19867053.htm Physical spot delivered in Asia trades for USD 140/bbl+ vs USD 100/bbl at Cushing; Europe either matches the price or loses the cargo of a diverted tanker. Negotiation is not volume constrained, delivers immediate results, and is a lot more reliable that sending escorts ... and hoping they don't sink. Negotiate All that Orange Boy can do is yap and threaten ... all hat, no cattle No ships. No NATO obligations either as the US was not intentionally attacked. Want help ? drop tariffs .... or please f*** o** ..... your choice Great for Canadian west coast exports though! Fill our own contracted tankers, sell at the Asian spot, and sell as much as we can possibly send. Premium prices though ... as this is heavy oil, and even more in demand Draw. They love their totally gutless leaders. Cubs, they all want and need US support, especially when they don't have to pay up for it. To me, that's really what most of the belly-aching is all about. Trump has finally called them out on a proper balance more favorable to the US. They don't like it. And the party providing the support usually gets to make the tough decisions. They don't like that either. What bothers me is that most of the tough decisions are morally correct and benefit not only us as a nation but the entire free World. People who oppose the present Administration trying to make the World a safer place on political or ideological grounds are part of the very problem we're trying to address. Ignoring threats never makes them go away. We have one ally that know that full well; perhaps that is why it has become such a strong ally. I'd hate to think that's what it now takes to convince the others.
