This is just a generalizing rant.  The number of people who actually give a crap about pronouns and gender and rainbow sidewalks is tiny.  Loud but tiny. And nobody made a huge deal out of it because why would you? Its annoying but it impacted almost nobody and definitely wasnt meant to harm anyone. As you like to say about everything - who care?  Just ignore it.

This is what you are missing. Try to look at it from half the country's view. It was not tiny.

The nonsense coming from the left touched virtually everyone. Just off the top of my head- some examples. I was verbally bullied over the pronoun issue. My friend's wife works at a university and was overwhelmed by the DEI crowd running the place;  she was afraid to speak up about common-sense issues like merit - based hiring. They also almost fired her for not taking the COVID vaccine. Just last week a leftist friend of mine shocked me by celebrating / joking about Kirk's assassination. My step-daughter came back from college two years ago and started berating me about trans men playing sports. Also about supporting Israel, capitalism, the usual. On that note alone - do you know how many hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of parents felt when the values they tried to teach their kids were replaced, actually reversed at college? One of my clients sent his granddaughter to college and she had the nerve to call him part of the 'white patriarch enemy' when she came home on a break. And she was at college on his dime!!

I totally agree Trump has taken things too far. But we will never find our way back to middle ground if you can't come to grips with what proceeded it, and try to understand how enraging this stuff was (and is) to average, normal people.

Yes indeed. But we're sticking it out, for the foreseeable future. I just don't want to be the last taxpayer standing!

Amen to that and to your prior post.  Had similar experiences.  When they stop trying to tell people how to think, what to say and how to act, maybe they'll finally understand.  Trump is far from perfect but far superior to what was.

Rationalize this one for me MAGA peeps......so the license is now dependent on saying nice things about Trump.....un-American and pathetic....what a thin skinned crybaby victim

You are absolutely correct.  However, if I have to choose between this and boys in my daughter's bathroom at school, it will be Trump every time.

Sorry, I've never seen anything he's posted that is personally offensive.  But like Cubs said, you're the boss and its your rules.  And yet again, you just can't leave Trump out of any post.

Reds, we had none of these issues or problems before 2016!  For the next four years, we had to delineate the threads and create a political thread because it was all getting out of hand on here.  Then we had four years of relative quiet and things became semi-normal, even though we were in the midst of a pandemic.  Then last year, the same problems appeared all over again...the divisiveness, the name-calling, the animosity, the infighting.  Notice a pattern?  It all comes down to the animosity Trump's conduct in his 1st and 2nd terms creates.  Some will say it's the left getting their undies in a knot...but it's far more than that.  For whatever people may say about Dubya, Obama and Biden, the tone and spitefulness in Trump's conduct is at a whole other level.  He revels in taunting, berating, firing, controlling, supplanting, eliminating and deceptive behavior.  He gets what he wants no matter how he has to get it!  So yeah, it does always come down to Trump of late!  Cheers!

Nobody is forcing you to watch their shows just as nobody is forcing you to watch Hannity.  Thats the whole freedom of speech thing.

Trump is putting troops on the streets over the opposition of local government, publicly stating he doesn't care about sowing division, publicly calling for the cancelation of shows and having his personally picked FCC head criticize networks/shows when he has to approve mergers.  And he's making up false accusations against fed officials to try and get them fired because they dont do what he wants.

If the dictator/fascist alarm bells aren't ringing loudly, regardless of your polical leaning you just don't want to hear them.

+1!  Cheers!

There you go.  Who is bringing up Trump, YET AGAIN?  If you'd resist commenting and complaining about every word, action, and report relating to Trump, perhaps you'd have the Board you want.  There was at least as much to complain about Biden but most of us easily resisted the temptation.  Why is it so hard for you?

Agreed.  In fact it is astonishing how many people feel compelled to complain about Kimmel's firing in public.  Why?  This was a business decision by ABC and if anyone wants to complain, why not voice your complaint to ABC?  Yet another sign of folks gone crazy.

He was fired after a MAGA outcry and the President's hand-picked choice leading the FCC made calls to ABC.  They didn't even make up a story about the show being a money-loser.  They just plain out pressured a company to fire a television personality because they didn't like his criticism or jokes.  Trump had warned that Kimmel was next after Colbert!  But don't let the facts get in your way.  Cheers!

The 1st amendment doesn't provide a blanket protection to defamation. I haven't even had time to read about the Kimmel thing yet other than what I've seen here, but if he's making outright lies then this very well may not even be a "free speech" issue.

Haha!  The President lies every day, was convicted on 34 charges and has essentially provided himself blanket protection against defamation.  Although he uses defamation to shut all of his critics!  Cheers!

WTF can't you understand. Out of the many threads on this site, this is  POLITICAL POSTS. Why do you persist in criticize someone for mentioning Trump??

Sanjeev, you keep doing the same thing!  I give you a lot of credit; you limited these discussions to a single thread - Politics.  If you don't like what people have to say in this thread, don't read it or participate in it.  Outside of this thread, the dialogue among members seems calm and informative.  And if you don't like any discussion of politics eliminate the thread and direct members not to discuss politics at all.  Frankly I'd be happy because my comments on this thread are primarily in response to what I believe are erroneous posts by others.  Its your Board; do as you wish but don't perpetuate the very problem you're complaining about.

Well, not quite an outright lie, but close.  He said:

To me, that's implying strongly that the guy who killed Kirk was MAGA, or at least a right wing.  But he clearly wasn't. So, while it technically isn't an outright lie, it's close enough that I find it contemptuous.

This is not what he said at all.  What he said was that the right was saying it was a leftist trannie that killed Kirk.  Kimmel said that the killer grew up surrounded by a MAGA family.  Essentially, he may have been leftist, but he grew up in a MAGA family...that everyone was to blame, not any one single group.  But of course people took offense to it and maybe Kimmel should have made it clearer what he meant.  Cheers!

I mean I know everyone thinks we ve come a long way….but it really wasn’t that long ago where folks literally had angry packs of rabid libtards trying to “cancel” them for, what did they call it? “Being a Trump supporter”….yup, like literally just being suspected of it, was enough to cause problems for people. That’s one of the more horrifying things I’ve ever seen gain widespread traction in my life. Voting for one of two candidates promoting huge droves of people into a rage that’s only satisfied with ruining you…even a few months ago they tried coming out to get the girl Sydney Sweeney because of her voter registration…So maybe yea when you see some walking definition of the elitist liberal cabal in filthy LA get peacefully removed from his multimillion dollar propaganda platform…there might be a little bit of…well….something other than outrage.

Again, this reinforces the whole saying about "an eye for eye, leaves everyone blind!"  Both groups are wrong.  Cheers!

He is complaining about how divisive this Board has become when Trump is in office.   If he doesn't like it eliminate politics altogether or don't be involved in the discussions.

How many times in the thread, like with “not understanding tariffs”, “trumps a pedo”, even earlier getting blasted about blatantly cherry picking polls, even as I pointed out… claiming there was no censorship under democrats, or that the left didn’t engage in cancel culture…how many of these hills that are self evident you wanna die on?

The larger point is that this is where things are at….its probably not getting better any time soon.

Small but vocal group? Lmfao, add another one to the above list. That’s literally all the left leaning folks have done for the past decade…but now it’s just a small group….

We still don't understand the point of tariffs!  Trump may be a pedo...and maybe Clinton as well...neither of us have proof one way or the other...the client list isn't being released!  Cheers!

Oh? Just stick one's head in the sand and everything will be okay. How about some people on this thread (not necessarily you) tone down the name calling and instead of attacking other posters stick to the issues.

Oh my God!  This was a very limited issue...and any risk was even lower.  There are more pedos released into the public every day by each state...the chance of something happening in the schools was extremely low-risk.  They are more likely to die from measles now in Florida than any risk of molestation.  Cheers!

That's fine but the issues themselves are very divisive.   Most of my friends and colleagues have different political views than me but when we are together we can discuss these issues without (much) emotion because we know one another.  It is far too easy on an online investment board to write stuff that you really don't mean and that comes across all wrong.

I can't do that because every time I try and limit politics, everyone ignores it...whether its a left-leaning or right-leaning member.  I've tried that in the past, and instead the fucking morons post this shit every so often in every thread!  Which starts to ruin all of the threads...so I try and limit the damage.

In terms of perpetuating the problem, I'm simply trying to counter the bullshit that I read about.  Just heard from one person that teachers in Sacramento and Utah were putting out kitty litter boxes because some students related as furries.  But it was utter bullshit...the story was spread by Joe Rogan after hearing the made up story from someone else.  This never happened!  But people keep perpetuating it.  I also have a very strong belief in science, how it is evidence-based and in 99% of cases thoroughly vetted.  So when I hear the Governor of Florida is now letting people decide (not mandatory) if they want the most basic, reliable and time-tested vaccines, I become extremely worried.

Cheers!

I don't have a problem with different views...as I said before, my best friend is MAGA, my uncle is MAGA...but they've learned not to spread bullshit stories with me, because I will call them out on it.  There are a number of people who are spreading false narratives and stories on here...both sides...and people are calling each other out on it.  This has rarely happened with other Presidents...it increases and spreads through the site every time Trump sits on the throne.  And it's directly because he's destroyed any sense of decorum in the way the President should behave...this trickles down the ranks to the common people.  And we get this animosity and division.  Cheers!

Politics on COBF was also banned AFTER Trump 1 and then reinstated for Trump 2….so, being cynical, I’d say it’s basically just an outlet for the moaning mob….similar to other things, how we couldn’t criticize Biden, but Trump…fair game.

Im all for free speech, but I also think having politics on this board is stupid and unproductive and have said so a million times.
