Yeah, no big deal. Mayor Bass tells the LAPD to "stand down" and leave the "protesters" alone.  Governor Newscum concurs.

 

So the President calls in his own forces to protect property rights, injuries, burning cars,  etc - totally embarrassing Mayor Bass.. 

 

It's actually nice to see someone protecting citizens for once.

 

Kinda like the open border thingy... "no big deal"

And trampling all over State's rights......the courts will decide whether this was over-reach or not.....but it sure looks like it to me.....nothing I saw in L.A. required federal military intervention all incidents and violence the LA police force is trained and equipped to handle..........sending in the National Guard and then the Marines was nakedly political move....designed to embarrass & damage a democratic political contender for the next Presidential election while giving off strongman vibes to your base.

What this conflict does demonstrate is there are some problems no amount of money can solve.  In fact more money spent has made it worse.

Hegseth said today the cost of the National Guard and Marines being deployed in LA was $134m.  Thats a lot of money for a PR stunt when LA/California was willing to pay for it themselves.

maybe it's not necessary to say this and it's me taking something Gregmal typed without thinking all too seriously....

 

but California has the most GDP and the 3rd or 4th most GDP per capita in the U.S.; it is the largest agricultural producer, the largest net contributor of tax revenue to the federal government, the seventh largest oil producer, the most populous state, and is the birthplace (depending on how one counts) of six of ten of the largest companies by market cap in the U.S. just eyeballing it.

I mean I generally don't like many of blue state america's local and state politics and i don't deny certain negative trajectories or quality of life issues from many democratic self inflicted wounds, but it's from a longstanding position of relative strength.

This was what I was typing without thinking of it too seriously. It’s the current state of affairs and the trajectory. Not what was once great about it. California was a beautiful and prosperous land of opportunity(for pretty much its entire existence) until it was ruined by progressive ideology and politics the last decade. And the numbers don’t lie. Those great businesses are fleeing, and same with the people. Don’t really care how great it once was, same can be said for a lot of places. Today it’s what? The land of face masks and colorful shoes?

California surpassed Japan last year to become the world's 4th largest economy. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but they're doing something right. 

 

Its kind of like NYC.  Its demise has been predicted for decades but it just keeps chugging on.  Its where young people want to be.

It's damn funny to see a bunch of money managing capitalists tie themselves in knots defending rioting/looting/burning of private property. The lengths some people will go to in order to slam Trump. Truly TDS.

 

Especially since they all know that Federal law supersedes  state law.

Growing up in the 1960's, this issue was settled for good.

Presidents JFK and Lyndon Johnson ordered National Guard into both 

Mississippi and Alabama over the strenous objections of state and local governments.  Why?  The local/state authorities wanted to maintain the rights to beat up blacks and black students for attending public schools. But the Presidents decided blacks deserved protection.

 

We see a complete repeat in 2024 - and you guys defend Mayor Bass and Newsome who refuse to protect Californians.

Past glory. It still clearly benefitting from what it attracted when it wasn't engaging in the crap it does today. I'm a Yankee fan and it's the same as me objecting to someone saying the Yankees have been an utter failure. I could bring up the past glory, the number of championships, the rich history of players, etc...but Id be deliberately doing that to compensate for the utter failure they've been since George passed; where they spend like drunken sailors, mismanage prospects, have a horrible medical staff, and outside of just saying "we're the yankees and here's a bag of money" they dont have the same future they once did. And all this can be true, and is true, despite the fact that perennially theyre a playoff team and they regularly have solid win/less records, but the futility resulting from mismanagement and taking their status for granted is undeniable. That's California in a nutshell. So yea, riot away. Eh peaceful protest away.

Its the part that every year despite all the problems and hate they are perennially a contender.  Just like everyone loves to hate on the yankees and tell them everything they're doing wrong, every year they seem to be contenders. Which at the end of the day is what every team is striving for.

And that’s why I wouldn’t argue with the failure part. It was always championship or bust. That was the standard and they were the MLB gold standard. Now Hal is content doing just enough to be in the mix. Never the best, never the worst, but where it counts, outspent by the Dodgers and Mets, out moneyballed by the Rays and Sox, just a mediocre franchise within the context of their former glory.
