  1. The Bonfire of the Vanities was pretty well translated (the shortcomings of wealth), Netflix's A Man in Full entirely missed the point (what makes a good life/what is the measure of a man). Read the book, you'll not regret it.
  2. Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities and (especially) A Man in Full.

  4. Docs do well compared to their age cohort still, sure, but not as well as previous generations of docs did.
  5. In 2022, 40 percent of all American children were born to single mothers. Black newborns faced a catastrophic 69.3 percent illegitimacy rate, while more than 53 percent of Hispanic children were born to unmarried females. Whites had a 27 percent illegitimacy rate; the rate among the white underclass is twice that. Already in 2016, 59 percent of births to white women who did not finish high school or obtain a GED occurred outside of marriage. https://www.city-journal.org/article/girling-the-boy-scouts
  6. Across a variety of datasets and measures, the finding of a midlife low has been consistently replicated. The U-shape has been apparent across a whole range of well-being metrics, including life satisfaction, financial satisfaction, worthwhileness, and happiness. Every U.S. state had a U-shape. But not anymore. Now, young adults (on average) are the least happy people. Unhappiness now declines with age, and happiness now rises with age–and this change seems to have started around 2017. The prime-age are happier than the young. https://www.interdependence.org/blog/the-global-loss-of-the-u-shaped-curve-of-happiness/ Social media is tough.
  7. More simple: don't hate the producers.
  8. Five conservative states have forced their employee pension funds to divest from China over the past year, amid increased tension with the Asian country, and more are considering following suit. Tension between the United States and China has been worsening for years, but Director of U.S. National Intelligence Avril Haines most recently warned lawmakers in May that China is preparing for increasingly unstable relationships with the United States. Indiana, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas are leading the calls to divest from the economic powerhouse, over fears that U.S. assets could be frozen if conflict breaks out between China and Taiwan, Politico reported Friday. https://justthenews.com/nation/states/five-states-force-employee-pension-funds-divest-china-amid-increasing-tension
  9. What does your average USA Today reader think when they read this? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/07/28/donald-trump-crypto-bitcoin-2024/74578728007/
  10. I expect the result of this bipartisan support for the industry to result in higher prices for BTC and potentially ETH. The floodgates are about to be flung wide open. BlackRock’s Larry Fink is positioned accordingly, are you? https://www.downtownjoshbrown.com/p/bitcoin-president
  11. Exactly. Seven months ago you couldn't buy an ETF. The community (and market) was a little disappointed by the speech but with reflection they should realize how meaningful it was. Especially once they hear from someone outside the community who tuned in to see Trump and heard (positively) about BTC for maybe the first time.
  12. I think it better reflects what Trump will end up doing by executive order. Selfishly I would have liked to hear him say it: Front running be damned, but it's better for the country he did not. (Says something about his chances that he feels he didn't have to.)
  13. Trump: Existing US BTC holdings will form the core of a strategic reserve stockpile and not be sold. He did not promise to buy 1M BTC as rumored. Disappointing, but understandable. Otherwise very supportive.
  14. Game Theory insists upon it.
  15. For a long time I wished I'd wrestled in Middle and High School. Seeing how friends who did now suffer with bad knees and shoulders, I'm pretty happy I did not.
