South Korea, Mexico & Japan would like to have a word. The US & in particular the A are way too smart for that. The people in US colonies usually live their lives thinking they are sovereign. The US is the master who holds a mirror in which the puppet watches itself practice sovereignty. Also, worth a read: https://substack.com/home/post/p-183378481 This seems to be about more than Oil.

I find all the left vs right discourse amusing. Both parties have and always will bow to the A. Biden was literally tweeting that Trump endorses dictators like Maduro while he stands with Venezuelans. Also, wasn't it only a year ago that Biden admin offered $25M in return for incriminating data on Maduro? This isn't about Trump or Biden or even Venezuelans. This is about Oil, the petrodollar. And if we are able to topple a dictator in pursuit of that goal then all the better. Make no mistake this would have happened inevitably. Most Americans don't realize what the A is capable of. As much as some of the things they do in Asia and Africa repulse me, I do believe, strongly so, in a nation's right to act in it's own interests. The hypocrisy is what annoys me. For example, India is bad for buying Oil from Russia because they are invading Ukraine, but US is right for doing a regime change for oil.

My 2026 bet is that this will change. CRM beat and their reasoning for it was AI adoption ramping. Software will be a beneficiary of AI adoption starting yesterday.

Well, what happened in VZ today was for XOM. They had to move out of VZ in 2007, so they move ops to Guyana and to their surprise find rich oil reserves there in 2015. Now Maduro starts claiming Guyana's oil as his and the whole thing is a shitshow. Maduro then doubles down and deploys military in 2024 on the Guyana border in plans to sabotage XOM's extraction of it. Rubio in March of 2025 warns that if Maduro plans to use military then things will escalate. Our boy Rex Tillerson is the CEO of XOM who resigns a year before Trump gets elected and becomes the secretary of state during first term. Well, well, well. I have talked to a few folks from VZ. Most of them are happy, this was an inside job, his VP now became the puppet president. Two things can be true, Maduro is a piece of shit who ruined a beautiful country but at the same time I would be wary of Manifest Destiny warriors who have vested interests not in the people but resources.

Think the most sketchy part about this to me is, if Todd was indeed good, he could have just spun off and started his own fund. Don't think BRK lacks money to seed some capital and LPs for sure would have lined up. It is telling he went to JPM instead. -

My takeaway was that there was more churn in his names rather than him picking up baggers. Is that not the case? -

Todd leaving, good riddance. Loyalty doesn't pay anymore seems to be the consensus, but I respectfully disagree. Funny to see him chase greener pastures at this juncture of his life. What was Todd's performance while at BRK? Don't think it was noteworthy. -
What are you buying today?

I think GTLB is the most misunderstood stock in broader tech right now. Will start a thread on it soon, the bear case is actually bullish. -
I love politically driven volatility in LatAm. Has historically been best buying opportunities for MELI & co, the sell-off has already started for these names, can go even lower, would be a buyer there.

Robotics - The New Frontier

They always were. I think Chinese liquor/tobacco companies might be a good robotics bet. All the union workers who get laid off will fall back on substances given the big smoking/drinking culture there. -
Yes, I pulled that off google. S&P dividend re-invested was ~135%. For Arlington I just added cumulative dividends to the portfolio, did not re-invest it, could have been a couple pps higher if Allan re-invested. Some other big wins were BFH & CVET. Should also be noted that he would most definitely have sold Wayfair off after it had that huge run in 2021, his cost basis was ~$53.4/sh. That alone would have added another ~$50M to the returns. But I guess we'll never know.
-
Fun fact, assuming Arlington was still up and running & Allan didn't touch the portfolio/change anything from their last 13F, the fund would have been up ~168.13% as of today including cumulative dividends not re-invested. Over the 5.15 year period that is 21.1% annualized. S&P did half that.

Why are T&T looked down upon? I get the distaste for Todd, but Ted? -

SPAC Merger Arbitrage
whatstheofficerproblem replied to whatstheofficerproblem's topic in General Discussion
Nothing yet. They are deep value guys and if they buy something not so sexy like a media company of a hotel chain then the stocks gonna drop. The question is do you buy before the merger is announced or after and I don't know the answer to that yet. Their S-1 mentions private AI players who will disrupt these traditional markets this time around, so if the target is indeed AI related then the answer is before announcement. I'm talking to banks and all I'm hearing is that SPACs are back. Once they start cutting in September SPACs could be nice plays. Not just this one but most would be a great trade. https://valueinvestorsclub.com/idea/Pre-Deal_SPACs/6852255699 This VIC write-up makes sense given the current environment. We will likely see a lot of bad actors prop up their SPAC and merge with shitty no revenue AI companies. I don't think Oyster would do that and this makes it a safer bet if I plan to hold for long is my thinking. Lockup period for shares ends sometime September so I will not touch this before that as we might get some selling. I plan on talking to the mgmt and people who are familiar with them and do some due diligence before I jump in. Either way, I'll post anything that comes my way here. I hope we can get this thread active and going now that SPACs will be here to stay for a year or two. I expect a 50bps cut come next month, we'll see what happens. -

Will Bill Ackman win a game in his pro tennis debut?
whatstheofficerproblem replied to ratiman's topic in General Discussion
I had the privilege of talking to Loeb and his accomplices, they are not to be messed with, incredibly goal oriented and focused people and geniuses in their own league but won't say no to some good time. Billy on the other hand spends less time investing and more time ranting on X. Ah, so now he is also into tennis I see, flavor of the week. Heavy into everything but ready for the next thing. -
Amrut is a little harsher in taste than Indri for me. Indri is good, but my conscious gets the better of me whenever I try to buy a new bottle given the founder's history. I miss mixing my Old Monk with Thumbs up. Tried it with Pepsi here in the US and tastes like dog water. Thumbs up is the only thing it tastes good with given it's not sweet like the American beverages. But alas, 2L of Thumbs up here costs as much as a single malt.

I am offended by the lack of activity on this thread today. Very unpatriotic and anti-national. I was on my way to buy myself a McCallan 12 to commemorate both July 4th and my first paycheck, but the guy at Total Wines did a pretty good job of convincing me that the Tamdhu distinction is better than the 12s. Smells great and allegedly tastes even better. Can't drink yet as the club soda is not cold enough. Also ignore the Blend No. 27s. Can't find a single pack of Midnights since I moved to California. Such a backward state.

Happy 4th of July to Our American Boardmembers!
whatstheofficerproblem replied to Parsad's topic in General Discussion
Just to the American friends? You don't have to be American to celebrate kicking out the British, 80% of the population will gladly partake. Happy 4th to all, today is a bad day to be a miller lite. -
Lucky you Spek. The folks I've met, their bodies are not what they used to be a few years ago. The mental aspect of moving is not an issue, it's physically draining. Then there is also the aspect of moving around enough to get to know the town you live in. I find it really amusing what 3 years can do to your body once you're older than 40.
