Evolveus Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 http://www.dataroma.com/m/holdings.php?m=BAUPOST Buys into AIG. Does anyone remember what percentage of total AUM for Baupost is represented by equities?
Mephistopheles Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I think the total AUM is $25-30 billion. Equities, here it shows, is just under $3 billion. 7 million shares of AIG is $270 million. So about a 1% position.
giofranchi Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 For anyone who might be interested, please find in attachment Baupost's equity portfolio analysis by gurufocus.com giofranchi “As time goes on I get more and more convinced that the right method in investment is to put fairly large sums into enterprises which one thinks one knows something about and in the management of which one thoroughly believes. It is a mistake to think that one limits one’s risk by spreading too much between enterprises about which one knows little and has no reason for special confidence.” - John Maynard Keynes GuruFolio_SethKlarman_dec2012.pdf
educatedidiot Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Seth Klarman (Baupost)'s Q3 13-F just came out. He bought McKesson, AMC Entertainment, Amerisourcebergen, Pioneer Natural, and Simply Good Foods warrants: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1
educatedidiot Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Baupost's Q4 13-F is out. Bought Time Warner and added to Fox, Cardinal Health, McKesson, AMC Entertainment, among others. Sold out of Dell Technologies. http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1
CorpRaider Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Sup with that Qorvo position? Man he always has some different stuff.
mwtorock Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 and next quarter he will have another set of different stuff ;)
Ballinvarosig Investors Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Does anyone find it interesting that their overall equity position has gone up quite a bit (yes, I am aware that equity is only a part of their portfolio). http://www.dataroma.com/m/hist/p_hist.php?f=BAUPOST
educatedidiot Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Baupost's Q1 13-F is out. Don't think you can read too much into it, but it's interesting to see that they took a $50 million position in Tesla debt. They added to a number of their larger positions like Fox, Pioneer Natural, and Keryx Biopharmaceuticals. And they sold out of Express Scripts. http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1
educatedidiot Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Baupost's Q2 13-F is out. Still a small position in the context of the whole portfolio, but Klarman continues to pile into Tesla debt, buying another $200 million worth. Could be a sign they're shorting the stock, but unfortunately they aren't obligated to disclose short positions. Also continued adding to Fox and sold out of Time Warner. http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1
gfp Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Fox position is really pretty big when you add the two classes of stock together (I know it's not his entire portfolio that is disclosed, so it's really just a large percentage of his disclosed equities). I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he didn't actually sell out of Time Warner, since AT&T stock appeared in his fund the same quarter. Baupost's Q2 13-F is out. educatedidiot Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Yeah, you're correct. For some reason I thought the merger closed in July but I just checked at it was mid-June, before the end of the quarter.
gfp Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Baupost filing is posted - Still adding to that Fox position. Rough day for him in PCG. Entered a position in Liberty Global, Univar, YPF, Tribune, Altaba. Always interesting to follow Seth. Biggest equity position by far is FOX, FOXA -> https://www.dataroma.com/m/holdings.php?m=BAUPOST
rogermunibond Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 What's the story with Shire? Both he and David Abrams bought in the quarter.
kab60 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 What's the story with Shire? Both he and David Abrams bought in the quarter. Merger arbitrage? Getting bought out by Takeda

Mostly exposure to DIS, which is decent on its own, but because of the collar you don't take much downside risk. Plus, the standalone stub is getting valued based on estimates of segment EBITDA, when they also a bunch of real estate that is very valuable. There is also some option value that they end up getting a bargain buying the RSNs back from Disney for anti-trust reasons.

Cevian Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Out today: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1061768/000156761920010141/xslForm13F_X01/form13fInfoTable.xml This is the one I've been waiting for the most. Looks like new positions in Google and Facebook. That's a big pivot for Klarman.
Guest Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Chou is in GOOG and now Klarman. Who doesn't own GOOG these days? How is this not the definition of a crowded trade?
scorpioncapital Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I suspect he's been underperforming for so long he threw in the towel. But of course the towel is likely to slip and buying these Giants now is anything but certain not to continue the underperformance. Since June 2013, 7 years he has been negative 31 percent as of today. He has underperformed sp500 by a wide margin and is ranked 160 out of 200 on tipranks.
thepupil Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I think you all are making too Much of 1-1.5% positions (Baupost $20-$30B AUM with these at $350mm or so) in cash rich companies whose enterprise values fell by 30-35% in the Q in which these showed up on the 13-F Alphabet and FB together are about 5% of SPY; they are about 10% of Baupost disclosed US equity portfolio ($600/$6B-$7Bish) and a 1-1.5% position of total AUM.
