dwy000 Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Just now, Gregmal said: And that’s why I wouldn’t argue with the failure part. It was always championship or bust. That was the standard and they were the MLB gold standard. Now Hal is content doing just enough to be in the mix. Never the best, never the worst, but where it counts, outspent by the Dodgers and Mets, out moneyballed by the Rays and Sox, just a mediocre franchise within the context of their former glory. As a huge Yankees fan we are probably off topic (although the comparison to California is apt) but I'd struggle to call them mediocre. They went to the World Series last year and made the playoffs 7 of the last 8 years. There are 31 teams that would love to fail as badly as the Yankees every year. They are the target for every single team and probably the most hated (and loved) team in baseball. But the one thing they do more consistently than any other team, year after year, is contend.
Blake Hampton Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 I don't like Trump but... California is a straight dumpster fire.

I mean I generally don't like many of blue state america's local and state politics and i don't deny certain negative trajectories or quality of life issues from many democratic self inflicted wounds, but it's from a longstanding position of relative strength. How dare you interrupt the narrative with facts. /s

Not what was once great about it. California was a beautiful and prosperous land of opportunity(for pretty much its entire existence) until it was ruined by progressive ideology and politics the last decade. And the numbers don’t lie. Those great businesses are fleeing, and same with the people. Don’t really care how great it once was, same can be said for a lot of places. Today it’s what? The land of face masks and colorful shoes? I know you’ve mentioned that you get most of your news from 10Ks (LOL) but if you did follow the news, you’d know that a lot of those people/companies that have moved out of the state have moved, or are moving, back. There was an article in The WSJ Rag a few weeks ago about it. But keep on hating on California like a true patriot.

I just find the "fuck california" sentiment from the more trumpian posters here as strange given the importance of california to the U.S. it's red state / blue state tribalism taken to an unfortunate extreme and out of line with economic reality. cubsfan Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 I think we all wish the best for California. I absolutely love the place and always have. But the last 20 years of leadership have wrecked the place. Residents have voted with their feet.

Well, when you have their current leaders denying violence is occurring and interfering with constitutionally kosher immigration enforcement, you kinda wanna see them get what they deserve. Same with how they behaved during covid.
LC Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 (edited) California is the most successful state in the Union...those who don't like it can continue pissing into the wind but I don't see what good it does to continuously ignore success simply because you don't agree with its politics or image. Meanwhile Vermont and New Hampshire, widely considered by many as the some of the best overall quality of life states, darnit, a failure cuz GDP is like bottom 15%....
DooDiligence Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Stage 2 of the Trump agenda is underway now. Create social unrest. Stage 3 is in the testing phase. Deploy troops. Coming soon...

Who is making the dumb argument here? You can’t defend your statement cause you spouted republican propaganda like you always do. California was a beautiful and prosperous land of opportunity(for pretty much its entire existence) until it was ruined by progressive ideology and politics the last decade. And the numbers don’t lie. Those great businesses are fleeing, and same with the people. Guess your numbers were wrong. So now you want to switch to quality of life and rule of law? Even in those two criteria California ranks higher than most if not all republicans led states. Edited June 10, 2025 by adesigar
