Keep your fingers crossed, the Democrats have no political power anymore. They've tried absolutely everything. It's tough when you lose the Presidency, House, Senate and the country all in one election. Amazing how they fucked the whole thing up. All they can do is bitch, moan and flail away. That is some 4D Chess. Edited April 2, 2025 by cubsfan
Mephistopheles Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 This makes so much sense to me now. Crash the world economy. Load up on cheap assets, become very wealthy. He has been inflating his wealth his entire life, now he can have it for real. Envy is the most powerful incentive and you just need to look at his past to see that he just wants to be known as ultra wealthy. Have to hand it to him for accomplishing it in the most insane way, convincing a whole bunch of blue collar workers that he is their savior. Very 4D chess indeed.

And just think - you can't do anything about it except bitch and moan. It's so much fun watching the opposition party that has absolutely no idea what to do, while they get steamrolled.

That is some 4D Chess. The democrats don't need political power. Trump is doing it for them (with help from Elon). People vote against candidates, not for candidates. It won't take too many results like yesterday as well as the impact of these tariffs for support in the house to disappear. There are already 4 republican senators who will vote against the "emergency" powers for tariffs on Canada. The one thing you haven't done is explain how these tariffs are good for the US. I will wait while you check with Fox for the talking points.
cubsfan Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 I know it's tough when you just have to stand by and watch all this unfold. The Democrats brought it upon themselves, and they get to try and fix it in a couple of years. What a bunch of losers. Until then, better just suck it up.

Confused as to how tanking the economy (along with his approval rating) is "winning"? For anyone other than Trump. Where is the winning here?

Check back for the final score before you declare victory. So far, the score in the bottom of the first is 10-0

Never did I think I was gonna be the one to say that either lol. We had politics during Trump 1 and it wasn’t great(albeit entertaining). Then banned criticizing Bid…politics for 4 years, then brought it back to let people groan about everything(only after banning a few Republicans) and cry over stock market pullbacks cuz it’s Trump. Now 90% of the investment forum is just worthless drivel.

No, some of us did...60% cash down to 50% cash...plenty of firepower for this absolutely stupid and ridiculous tariff war. Let's not pretend we all don't know what this is. People earning up to $400,000 a year suddenly paying through their nose for their day to day, month to month needs. A tax grab that will have negligible effect on the top 5% and will result in massive revenues to apply to the big tax cut that will come down the road. Yes, it will bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. It will reduce corporate taxes and probably capital gains related taxes in the future. And there will be a big boom on the back end! But this all could have been achieved by tough negotiations of existing trade agreements, not supported on the backs of the lower, middle and upper classes and without the country going into a recession. As well, the raging volatility in the markets and uncertainty for small businesses could have been avoided. How will it affect me? I will be a beneficiary, because I'm sitting on a ton of cash to take advantage of the situation. But most will not be lucky other than the top 5% where the increased costs will have negligible impact on their overall wealth and day to day lives! Cheers!

I think this one may be the most dangerous one of them all. Because of Beijing's lack of transparency, we don't know what effect this will have on the Chinese economy and then subsequently on the loan portfolios of Chinese financial institutions. I can definitely see something like 2008/2009 happening in Asia, which long-term would benefit the United States, but in the short-term could lead to a global calamity. The dominoes will now fall where they will and we'll have to wait and see if this is an Asian flu or an Asian depression. If it is the latter, I don't think the world has enough firepower to cure it. The Austrians might like this one, since we may just have to grin and bear it! Then again, what else would you expect from a fucking moron who has filed bankruptcy six times, avoided 34 felony charges, makes numerous attempts to amend the Constitution and essentially has lied his whole God-damn life! Cheers!

Actually Dinar was banned because he was approving of genocide. His 30-day ban is over. Personally, I'm not sure the site lost one iota with him away. Maybe you should acknowledge that the site has gone to shit at times because there are a handful of posters who like stirring the pot...on both sides...but mostly on one. A small rag-tag group that has been given considerable free reign in the name of freedom of speech even though collectively they accounted for 80% of the complaints I have received in the last 8 years! I could easily fix this shit, but it would mean banning a handful of people permanently. Some might say that deprives the board of knowledgeable investors, but the board has been around over 20 years, and every time some knowledgeable poster has left, another one eventually steps in and replaces the lost value. So no one is irreplaceable on this site! Rather than slagging off the site, maybe the shit disturbers could show a bit of self-control! Cheers!
thepupil Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 I kind of hate myself for this, but seeing SPX only down 3%, I sold enough e-mini’s to bring my taxable account to mkt neutral / which will bring me overall to 75% net (100% long 25% short). I’ll probably reverse/regret it, but this just seems insane and the market is still “fully” valued. Maybe trump will walk it back and my face will get ripped off , but this seems far worse than feared.

Agree - if true its beyond aggressive......Chimerica is dead.....long live China v America the UFC edition....sounds like the opening bell in the official overt Cold War 2.0 has just been rung......and done at a time when the Chinese economy is fragile......to the Chinese I'm sure it feels like economic warfare......cause it kinda is. The Taiwan moment inches ever closer.....it feels like a moment when Xi might announce the arrival of China as a peer not a little brother who can be pushed around. Still can't help but feel that Captain Chaos looks at the each of these countries tariff punishments as just a future PR event where he can sell some climbdown as a great deal that only he could have gotten for USA Inc..........all nonsense, all not meaningful in the scheme of things.....but it puts him at the centre of things. The great dealmakers. The saviour of the Republic. I say this because without a relatively quick climbdown on this stuff its political suicide.....that voter in Akron, Ohio is easily two or three years away from even knowing somebody who might have benefited from tariffs whereas in two to three months he going to be staring twice at his Walmart receipt wondering what the fuck is going on.

I think markets will react more as poor data flows through in the next 2-4 quarters. Almost certainly we are going to see a global recession if these tariffs last 3-6 months. It's the knock off effects I'm worried about. Anyone wondering now why Buffett sold so much Apple and is hoarding cash? Fairfax is also positioned deliciously to take advantage of this! Cheers!
