Spekulatius Posted June 24, 2025 Author Posted June 24, 2025 Alizee- sounds pretty good and looks even better when she is dancing: She got some pretty good songs and records over the years but almost disappeared,
whiskybravo Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 (edited) I'm listening to Terry Reid's album River. How was this guy not a star? Jimmy Page asked him to be lead singer of the New Yardbirds, which became Led Zeppelin. He declined and suggested Robert Plant. He has kind of a Van Morrison feel. Great album! nwoodman Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 (edited) A must for TOOL fans, pro shot magic. As one of the comments says this is like a Bigfoot sighting . Edit: Looks like most of the “Back to the Beginning” sets are now showing up on Youtube in similar quality. An epic tribute to Ozzy. Happy days https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_Beginning Edit: The Slayer set is epic. Tom Araya's vocals sound as good as ever. Edit: The drum off between Travis Barker (Blink 182), Chad Smith (RHCP) and the human octopus Danny Carey (Tool) was probably worth the price of admission. Human Octopus for the win. He seems like a great musician but sounds too generic with his Blues/ Rock. There were many such talents at that time. He should have joined a band to create something that stands out more, imo.

He didn’t make it a priority to achieve notoriety. A no greater authority than Aretha Franklin considered him the greatest white soul singer.
nwoodman Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 (edited) A short KEXP set by Amyl and the Sniffers. I did get a chuckle when Amy said “Now you will have to excuse me my voice is a little ‘horse’, so hopefully Elon Musk doesn’t try to snort it…(then turning to the audience) ….it was a ketamine joke” Aussie humour lost a little in translation Edited July 7, 2025 by nwoodman

If I tried to sing like that I'd blow my voice out in 3 minutes.
nwoodman Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 (edited) I recently came across the Pinkpop Archive Youtube Channel. An amazing collection of many of my favorite 90’s bands (as well as some later stuff too) all pro shot at the festival in the Netherlands. An amazing collection for those that were into the scene then. Brought back some great memories and well worth checking out. This Rage Against The Machine set is just brilliant. Damn Zack went hard, consider myself lucky to have seen RATM a couple of times but like all things when you are young kind of took it for granted. A truly epic era for live music. Rage was the first band that came to mind when I listened to that Amyl and the Sniffers video. Vocals got hosed but the crowd stepped up. Damn a weak XLR connection. HT to the commenters who pointed out the most important part of the song at the end. Zack adopted this bit into their live performances. We need more of this energy right now. . I really underappreciated RATM when they first came out...repetitive lyrics, mainly bi***ing about stuff, but as years went on I came to appreciate the greatness that is RATM. Wish I could have seen them live. -Crip
nwoodman Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 (edited) Spellbound is one of those ageless bangers for my money. Not bad for an early 80's video, too, along with some great comments. When that Time Machine finally comes along, the chance to see Robert Smith playing back to back with both The Cure and Siouxsie and The Banshees would be pretty high on my list. This performance from 1983 Albert Hall is pretty good: S&TB with Robert Smith A short doco on the period: When Robert Smith was a Banshee Edited July 15, 2025 by nwoodman

I don't think you would have the likes of Karen Oh from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs if it wasn't for Siouxsie Sioux...which would have been a tragedy, because Karen Oh is something very special! My personal favorite...was a fantastic album...much more polished than their early works. Cheers!

For me, she defined entire genres, not to mention looks and scenes. Post-punk and goth rock wouldn’t be the same without her. The ripple effect of her influence is still felt today in so many artists, Karen O is just one of the many who stand on her shoulders. A couple of my favourites, The Smiths and Joy Division, were also greatly influenced by her uncompromising style and sonic boldness. She didn’t follow trends, she made them “Without Siouxsie and the Banshees, there would be no Smiths.” Morrissey “We were very inspired by Siouxsie and the Banshees. We always looked up to them… they were the ones doing it right before us.” Peter Hook

Siouxsie Sioux, Joan Jett and Debbie Harry...spawned pretty much every female rock star for the last 50 years! And to a lesser extent, Annie Lennox. Cheers!
DooDiligence Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 (edited) https://www.pbs.org/newshour/arts/ozzy-osbourne-dies-at-76-weeks-after-farewell-show This song was named for Bill Ward's beard (Ozzy said it looked like a pen nib). There's always a reason to sing this one (unfortunately). Tritone anyone? Edited July 22, 2025 by DooDiligence
nwoodman Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 (edited) @DooDiligence thanks for that. RIP Ozzie. Never was much of guitar player but the intro to Killer of Giants was a passion project for a while This version off the DVD was one of the better IMHO. The Jake E Lee solo is not bad either https://drive.google.com/file/d/1n7WF9V265OmNYRaXlsHvyc564nn09ZJV/view Edited July 23, 2025 by nwoodman

Six different decades with a top 10 Billboard, barely coherent, suffering from Parkinson's and still jostling with Sharon. Cheers!
