Great podcast episode recommendation thread

Liberty

Recommended Posts

I thought this might be useful to discover specific podcast EPISODES (not podcasts as a whole, please. If we like the episode you recommend, I'm sure we'll have a look at other episodes... but it's nice to have a starting point).

My favorite podcast episode of the year so far is this three-part interview with Dr. Matthew Walker:

https://peterattiamd.com/matthewwalker1/

https://peterattiamd.com/matthewwalker2/

https://peterattiamd.com/matthewwalker3/

I've read his book, but somehow his interviews with someone smart like Attia are even better (because he can go deeper than in a general-audience book).

Highly recommend that you check this one out. It'll not only help your investing, but everything else in your life.

I read the Mat Walker book - found it OK and started listening to the podcast with Peter Attia but it hasn't grabbed me yet. However, Peter Attia is brilliant. My favourite Peter Attia podcasts so far are:

https://peterattiamd.com/zubindamania/ - this is the podcast that got me listening to Peter Attia; 2 brilliant Stanford MDs who are burnt out with current health care

https://peterattiamd.com/nirbarzilai/ - trying to understand the science of aging

https://peterattiamd.com/samharris/ - Sam Harris is the essence of having a conversation

https://peterattiamd.com/jakekushner/ - metabolism of diabetes and understanding glucose uptake appears to be linked with longevity research

I take that back. Am getting deeper into the Matthew Walker podcast with Peter Attia - it is very good. Until now there has been a lot of hearsay and generalization about sleep benefit. Now, Mat Walker is sharing that there is science and it is very interesting.

Glad you're enjoying it. He also did an interview with Rhonda Patrick here:

And Kevin Rose:

But he goes most in-depth with Attia.

I've been re-listening to this one yesterday and today. So much great stuff in it, impossible for me to retain it all with just one listen. If you still haven't checked it out, I recommend you give it a try, at least part 1.

I loved the Acquired podcast.  A number (nearly all) of episodes are terrific, but the one I go back to is about Blue Bottle coffee.

https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/episode-46blue-bottle-coffee

The discussion about fundraising was really great.

There is also a subscription premium podcast with Sara Adler that is a favorite.  I can't figure how to link it, since it requires a subscription.  But there is a seven-day free trial now, so I recommend trying it out.  (Although I would recommend not starting with the first episode, on VC vocabulary, which was granular.  Not bad but not their best work.

I love the Freakonomics Radio Podcasts. They cover a wide variety of topics, some of which you might find more interesting than others depending on your preferences. This is a great one that looks at Trader Joe's:

Ditto. this is. Particularly relevant one for most of us:

Peter Attia is a magnificent interviewer.

I would add to that the Rick Rubin episode. Rick Rubin is THE most legendary music producer, first half is about his career, second about fighting obesity and mental health.

Loved that one too. I could listen to Rick speak all day.

Two more great ones:

Patrick O'Shaughnessy interviewing the pseudonymous "Jesse Livermore", author of http://www.philosophicaleconomics.com

http://investorfieldguide.com/livermore/

And Ted Seides interviewing Patrick O'Shaughnessy (it's good to hear him as an interviewee rather than an interviewer, he talks a lot about quant stuff):

agree, and would also add that it's probably the podcast with the best audio quality I've listened to, given it was recorded in Rick's studio  ;D

If you want to hear more of Rick podcasting, he's done some episode for the Broken Record podcast, which is part Malcolm Gladwell's podcast network (along with Michael Lewis' new podcast).

A podcast summarizing the book on Singleton (which is very hard to get) "A Distant Force" (with transcript)

https://moiglobal.com/henry-singleton-lessons/

I might have a PDF copy of that book around somewhere.  I will look for it if you want.

I have a paper copy. It's not that great a book, it's not all about Singleton and Teledyne strategy... lots about the author and stuff that might be less interesting to the investor-reader.

Yeah, I agree with your assessment of the book, which is why I'm not sure if I have a copy/where it is.
