That’s America though. I’m from the UK and certain parts of America and certain behaviours do sketch me out. Not so much the open carry guys though, people have do that often have to notify cops so they likely went through a process. It’s the sheer amount of guns in general.
-
Yeh I posted it because I couldn’t understand why he would say that. Took on a bit of a life of its own after that.
-
Can we at least wait until ICE turns up to polling stations rather than arguing about Gavin Newsom talking points? ICE have not been at any polling stations.
-
We don’t carry our passport either. I’m referring to polling in general, we have to present ID to vote and I use my passport to do so.
-
I live in the UK, I have to take ID with me everytime I vote and it’s normally my passport. Please pretending it’s a big ask.
-
It hasn’t happened in elections but I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen in red states or cities if it ever did. I also think if you are intimidated by ICE at polling stations you’ve lived a sheltered life. Bring your ID. It’s not a big deal to bring ID (it’s a requirement in the UK and many other countries). It’s insane the world’s largest democracy is so lax around checking who can vote.
-
Yes they are. You don’t hear about it as much because it’s a red state. But if you Google it you will see it is occurring. From the L.A. times: ”In the first five months of Trump’s second term, California lagged behind the staunchly red states of Texas and Florida in the total arrests. According to a Los Angeles Times analysis of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement data from theDeportation Data Project, Texas reported 26,341 arrests — nearly a quarter of all ICE arrests nationally — followed by 12,982 in Florida and 8,460 in California.” The big ‘sanctuary’ cities which have laws which limit cooperation with ICE are all blue.

My response to that is to man up. I just don't have much sympathy for people complaining about law enforcement doing their job. Having to pay respect to how everyone feels and validate it is part of the reason why we are where we are. That cuts both sides of the aisle btw.
-
Yeh but dwy, it’s their job to find illegals. That requires confront people, it’s going to feel intimidating, even harassing or threatening. It’s not an excuse for a person not to vote and it’s not a reason why ICE shouldn’t do their job. People need to grow some skin.
-
Plausible yes, but if you are a citizen bring proof - problem solved. I really don’t get the confronted, intimidated, arrested thing. People say that about cops too - it’s their job to police. They’re the biggest gang in almost every country. Behave accordingly. This was my thought to, but another view is that’s he’s trying to scare people, or he made a dumb comment not realising how it sounds.

Why would he say this? I’ve been trying to think of a possible reason why he would say that but the only one I have is the obvious one.

I’ve been on this board for several year and I’m surprised I’ve not heard of the following two companies before. Amphenol (APH) and Eaton (ETN) are serious compounders that provide electrical / power equipment and are benefiting from the datacenter boom. Whilst everyone is fixated on the chips or software, these guys appear to be providing the boring stuff (cables, power, racks etc) and have flew under my radar. Does anyone own them or know much about them?
-
Don't worry Greg, some in the UK media called him (sorry her) ‘far-right’. Rarely if ever hear anyone called far-left.

He’s very smart but he said something obviously wrong, and I don’t understand why. In the case of Ukraine - Russia I do think it ends via negotiations but most major wars in the last 100+ years haven’t ended that way.
-
What is he talking about.
-
That’s not quite right. Russia wants Ukraine under its thumb. Ukraine being neutral means being pro-Russia in Putin’s eyes. Lots of this comes down to people believing what Putin says and not watching what he does.
-
You realise Ukraine borders the EU, bigger and more economically prosperous than Russia, less nukes sure but they have smarts and capacity to out produce and outfight Russia in every regard should they want to. So Ukraine lives in the shadow of two trees, and Russia isn’t even the biggest tree.
-
You say ‘wrong, totally wrong’ but what you wrote is kinda the point I’m making. You can’t trust Putin, not a word. However there is a problem, and it’s that is there isn’t actually an alternative. Ukraine has to beat the Russians out of Ukraine without direct intervention from the US or Europe - which seems unlikely. Without outside help, how will Ukraine get its land back? If it can’t get its land back, what’s the alternative other than to make a deal? If the deal can’t be trusted, security guarantees that results in a war with Europe and the US if Russia breaks the peace might be the only way the deal stays in force. This is the way things are working themselves out, whether any of us like it or not.
-
As everyone is finding out, the only way to deal with Putin is with power. Soft diplomacy doesn’t work. It’s military has been wrecked in Ukraine. So yeh you have to deal with him but you can’t be weak in his face.
-
Russia and the US have opposing world views and spheres of influence and naturally butt heads. The way for that relationship to significantly improve it would require one or both to seriously diminish in power, or if Russia becomes more democratic and Western orientated. Both seem unlikely. It seems to me to be a bit like hoping the Israelis and Palestinians would just be productive friends.
-
The problem with these negotiations is who can you trust? Putin has broken multiple Ukraine agreements already. Trump changes his mind often and would he be willing to send troops to Ukraine - I think not.
-
And what if other demographics are mostly for Democrats?
-
You are assuming all the non-Italian vote is 50-50
