  1. So if the USTR gets a handle on tariffs and pushes Trump/Lutnick out of the limelight that's good. Now, need more on deficit reduction, tax cuts, and deregulation. https://archive.ph/COAbw
  2. Heritage seems to have been awfully lazy in terms of finding ways to carry out their Project 2025 agenda that would not be reversed by Federal judges and SCOTUS. There aged 20-something lawyers and analysts seem to have done a totally shit job. Likely because while they had the zeal, they completely lacked the know-how and acumen of older mainstream conservative lawyers who refused to do this work. The Federalist Society members must be embarrassed.
  3. Federal judge blocks dismantling of USAID, saying it "likely violated" the Constitution From CNN's Katelyn Polantz A federal judge has indefinitely blocked the dismantling of USAID and cut off staffers from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from sharing sensitive personal data kept by the agency, in a major win for groups broadly challenging Musk’s role in the federal government. “The court finds that Defendants’ unilateral actions to shut down USAID likely violated the United States Constitution,” Judge Theodore D. Chuang of the US District Court in Maryland said today. Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly described the limit placed on DOGE on sharing sensitive information.
  4. Why is AI/LLM/chip mastery considered a national security and/or military dominance issue? What are the ways in which LLMs or AGI could tip the scales in military dominance? Thanks.
  5. Fentanyl and immigration are needed for the tariff because the Admin used a "state of emergency" declaration to allow the President powers to throw out trade deals etc. The WSJ editorial board pointed out that this could be challenged in Congress but the party in control will not do so. The one lesson for me is that the "executive power" within the office of the President is too great.
  6. Anecdotally, an esteemed poster on another Berkshire board is moving his assets out of USD and out of IBKR on precisely the taxation of non-US capital reason. He lives in Monaco.
  7. FT opinion piece on putting Fannie and Freddie into a US sovereign wealth fund https://on.ft.com/41NnCN6
  8. The USD has been off the gold standard since the 1970s when Nixon ended dollar gold convertibility.
  9. I’d take the over as well The CR preserves $2T deficit. Only Tom Massie and Rand Paul voted against among Repubs
  10. Go to Spookys first post. There is a link to a paper by Stephen Miran, incoming Chair of the CEA That is the originating white paper for this idea. Bessent has referenced it repeatedly.
  11. Mar a Lago accord @dealraker
  12. +1
  13. Where's she from? I'm guessing a blue state city yes? It's a huge problem in my area but the politicians are not interested in opening up development. They're still so wedded to "affordable housing," eviction regs, rent stabilitization etc. The evidence shows that you just have to build a lot more, without so much restriction on making it "affordable" or worrying about gentrification.
  14. Well as conceived by the founders, democracy was only for men who owned property. A certain level of intelligence was necessary. Always was.
  15. There's no MAGA revolution. There's 600 days till the mid terms. Time's ticking. Are you better off on November 4, 2026 than you were in 2024? That's the exam.

  17. Silver and Sam Wang are both good analyzers of weighted polling data through meta-analysis. Gets rid of the noise in skewed political polls from both sides. By sampling and weighting individual polls for quality, you get rid of the noise.

  19. Buffett's solution is better. If the deficit is above 3% of GDP all sitting members of Congress cannot run for re-election.
  20. He's lost Jamie Dimon
  21. How does the Canadian contribution to NATO factor into tariffs which are ostensibly about fentanyl, immigration, and manufacturing?
  22. https://www.nationalreview.com/2025/03/trumps-reckless-war-on-canada/ https://www.nationalreview.com/2025/03/does-trump-know-why-he-was-elected/ Maybe the National Review editorial board and op/ed writers are RINOs. Or maybe tariff wars are stupid.
  23. It'd be a lot more interesting to do a mirror of the wholly owned Berkshire companies. Reinsurance = MKL or FRF Geico = PGR PCP = HWM Marmon = ROK BHE = EXC or VST Pilot = maybe CASY BNSF = UNP or CP Any other sizeable owned companies with a publically traded similar?
