Sorry for jumping in front of you haha.

Topped up today at $14.97. I doubt there will be many more days it will dip below $15. Famous last words, lol.

I read somewhere hedge funds are unwinding their interest rate differential (carry?) trade, i.e. short long-term, and long short term bonds. Makes sense if the yield curve is uninverting.

Reminds me of all these Shark Tank products, that cost $20 retail in the US, and when asked what their landed cost is, they say $2.57. At 10% tariff on imports does definitely not translate into a 10% price hike for the end consumer.

Quoting out of context is just lazy. He said: "The army of millions and millions of human beings screwing in little screws to make iPhones -- that kind of thing is going to come to America. It's going to be automated."

Bessent yesterday sounded very uncomfortable, he might be on his way out. However Lutnick is a believer.

Are you calling people fat? Oh wait you are talking about Fairfax.

Come on guys, let's discuss the issues, possible economic impact and market impact, not which president is/was dumber! https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security/ Using his IEEPA authority, President Trump will impose a 10% tariff on all countries. This will take effect April 5, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT. President Trump will impose an individualized reciprocal higher tariff on the countries with which the United States has the largest trade deficits. All other countries will continue to be subject to the original 10% tariff baseline. This will take effect April 9, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT. These tariffs will remain in effect until such a time as President Trump determines that the threat posed by the trade deficit and underlying nonreciprocal treatment is satisfied, resolved, or mitigated. -- Seems to me there is still some wiggle room, likely frantic negotiations over the next week.

On Eve of Trump’s Tariffs Announcement, Israel Says It Will Lift All Duties on U.S. Imports https://archive.is/gJfgL Makes sense. More countries should do this. We may soon read the headline “Donald Trump ushering in a new era of free trade” lol.

The Undertow of Kindness or Just Batshit Crazy?

So how did it go? I once had a client of a tourism service that did not pay what she owed after the service. I asked for the payment a few times, and then gave up for a while. But about once a year I wrote another email "Hey xxx, could you please pay...". Her first and last name made it likely she was of Indian descent (living in the UK), so the last time I wrote "it would be good karma if you settled this", or something to the effect. Haha, I know, the karma thing may be a bad stereotype. But a few months later, out of nothing, she paid up by PayPal, we sent a receipt, and all good. Who knows what her mental or financial state was that could have been the reason. Took about 3 years. -
Apparently she’s not smart enough to defraud the EU while maintaining plausible deniability, and staying below the threshold for criminal charges. Like a few years ago, there was a scandal about MEPs stopping by the EU parliament early on Friday mornings on their way to the airport, only to sign in and receive the €300 daily allowance. There were so many that there was a line in front of the place where they signed in.

Great interview, thanks for posting.

“Research by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) - an independent organisation - suggests the European Union’s 27 member states purchased more than €205 billion in Russian fossil fuels, including oil, coal and gas, since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.” “EU members Belgium, France and Spain continue to be major entry points for Russian LNG.” https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2025/03/05/has-europe-spent-more-on-russian-oil-and-gas-than-aid-to-ukraine-as-trump-claims

Thanks, that makes sense.

Why is GOOGL (with voting rights) more than 1% cheaper than GOOG (without)?

Wow FFH almost back to 1.2x book value, if Q1 book value is around $1100.

Trading at the bid-ask midpoint and hidden orders
backtothebeach replied to backtothebeach's topic in General Discussion
What if someone mentioned on a message board that they had an active hidden sell order at the bid-ask midpoint on a thinly traded stock like ELF.TO? Would that be legal? Asking for a friend. -
I've had mixed success trading between the bid and ask. On liquid stocks, I often find a hidden order at the midpoint executes, I suppose the counterparty has the opposite hidden order at the midpoint? IB's midpoint algorithm on the other hand can work, but it feels like the algos react to a larger order and move the price so the midpoint gets worse and worse. Frankly, it is all a bit of a mystery. For example an odd lot (less than 100, e.g. 50 shares) order on FFH.TO does not change the bid-ask at IB on my screen, but I would guess the full order book is visible to other market participants. Round 100 lot hidden orders on FFH can execute, odd lot hidden orders never execute.
