  1. All aboard the fear train.
  2. This is an exciting prospect that hadn't occurred to me! Might make up for my stupidity with other investment decisions.
  3. “I haven’t touched my face in weeks!” Trump joked. “I miss it.” www.politico.com/news/2020/03/04/trump-jokes-touching-face-coronavirus-121135
  4. >The cello makes a cameo appearance in Year of the Cat. We have no cellists at school. Everyone has a certain virtuosity. I wish the same re: investing acumen but alas, must attempt to compensate by watching & listening here. To date, I'm not doing so well but it's likely because I don't put in enough practice hours. :) Keep on smilin' (aka Don't let the markets wear you down).
  5. Who's playing music? I'm learning Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" & also rolling through Burgmuller's 25 Etudes. We had an aspiring cellist here but I can't remember who it is. Year_of_the_Cat.pdf
  6. Thanks. We are doing great and not losing any sleep. Just staying informed exercising reasonable caution. +1 Yeah, I'd +1 that too. I don't want to diminish what's going on. This thing is definitely a nasty bug. But the reaction to it is definitely weird. I lived in Toronto during SARS (I actually worked on the subway during the crisis) and I lived in London during H1N1 (England was one of the harder hit places). But I don't remember anything like what is going on right now. There was a general level of concern (I started to cough in my elbow) but life pretty much went on as usual. I don't remember being any shortage of masks in the heath care sector. People definitely didn't stockpile masks. The markets certainly didn't care because we were all fucked at that point anyway. I just don't get why things are so much different this time. Social media This So basically the world would be a better place if we burned facebook and twitter to the ground and erased all trace of their existence... Include Fox news & you get a hard yes from me. I stopped visiting Twitter more than a month ago with no ill effects. Never had a FB page & don't want one. Echo chambers are bullshit. edit: I like it here on CoBF because I hear civil discourse from bulls & bears on most of what I own. That's all that matters. Politics & religion? Bah.
  7. I expected nothing less. Wait till he takes credit for coming up with a vaccine. On second thought, maybe he'd soft pedal that since he might lose votes. www.insider.com/how-donald-trump-became-an-anti-vaccinationist-2019-9
  8. I re-watched the Naked Gun recently. "Nice beaver" "Thanks, I just had him stuffed" Surely you can't be serious? Don't call me Shirley. What can you make of this?

  10. That was good for a belly laugh!
  11. I've been drinking the Fleur De Cana 4 (white), 12 & 18 for years. It was my understanding that these are single cask & that they farm the majority of their own cane (T or F?) Either way, it's tasty. I also like Pussers, after being 1st introduced to it on Tortola with Painkillers. Last but certainly not least, when I left Rio last time, I bought 3 bottles of Havana Club 7 year anéjo (with the Cuban seal) from the duty free. I have one unopened bottle left & have been duping guests by re-filling the other 2 bottles with US bought Havana Club. I'm a deceitful host.
  12. Red Stripe & Gorilla Glue
  13. I'm all in on VLGEA. No more extra FOMO cash. Severe downturn 100% assured.

  15. "When I was a meteorologist in World War II, they told me how to draw weather maps and predict the weather. But what I was actually doing is clearing pilots to take flights. I just reversed the problem. I inverted. I said, "Suppose I wanted to kill a lot of pilots." Munger Priceless

  17. This may qualify. www.railwaygazette.com/business/marmon-and-wells-fargo-buy-ge-capital-rail-businesses/41444.article I don't know how many other deals have been done alongside Wells. If Omaha values deals over ownership of Wells, it seems likely they'd stay under 10% with the new rules giving them MOS against any smell tests. --- edit: Here's another deal from 2013 www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-07-25/berkshire-home-broker-to-take-wells-fargo-s-stake-in-venture --- Then there's comments like this which could be viewed as "managerial" www.bnnbloomberg.ca/munger-says-wells-fargo-ceo-scharf-ought-to-be-in-san-francisco-1.1389484
  18. Does Alaska waive their $100 license reinstatement fee after a suspension for lapse in coverage? "When you lose your privilege to drive in Alaska for driving without insurance, the state suspends your license or privilege to drive. Your driving record will show that the state has taken action against your license. When you comply with the steps needed to get your license back, you are reinstating your driver’s license or privilege to drive." http://doa.alaska.gov/dmv/akol/fees.htm http://doa.alaska.gov/dmv/reinst/manins.htm
  19. I liked it too! —- Bernard Cornwell’s “Saxon Choronicles” novels (GREAT) were made into a series called “the Last Kingdom”. It’s about Alfred the great & is fleshed out with fictional characters like Uhtred, a Saxon boy who’s captured & raised by Danes & becomes Alfred’s greatest Commander in the fight against invaders. Alfred screws Uhtred over a lot. There’s 3 seasons to watch after gorging yourself on Vikings.
  20. The kid gave him a Samsung Galaxy Fold with a Bitcoin on it. Apparently he doesn't know Berkshire owns a ton of Apple. I'm sure Warren was thrilled.
  21. I was driving home from school the other day & saw an elderly man walking on the side of the road with a gas can. I had seen a car on the side of the road a ways back and figured it was his. He had his thumb out while he was walking so I stopped & picked him up. We chatted a bit & after a few minutes he noticed a brown bag on the floorboard in front of him and asked what was in it. I told him, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my girlfriend". He immediately said, "Good trade".
  22. The president of the United States & every member of the house & senate should be required to recite, by memory, Leithner Letter No. 241-244, before being sworn in.
  23. Why don't you like MLPs? Is it just the tax implications or are there other issues? I prefer c-Corp over MLP mostly due to ease of dealing with them (no K-1). Energy and even midstream is cyclical and volatile, so one can benefit from buying and selling at the “right time “. MLP are a pain in the butt when dealing with partial sales, distribution recapture etc. Also, 60% + of my assets are in tax deferred accounts, which are no-go for MLP (UBTI concern). I would consider an MLP (and indeed own one) for a long term holding only, preferably something I never intend to sell. I think only EPD is really of high enough quality and even there are rumbling about converting to a c-Corp. Are you forced to sell & pay the taxes in a C corp conversion? Why would they consider such a move?
  24. Right or wrong, I'm feeling energy too. I'm not capable of meaningful analysis so I simply added to VDE this week. Cramer's a putz. He'll shift to shilling energy co's when the wind starts blowing that direction again.
