  1. Clarification on investing in Wintaai: Wintaai is set up under Ontario’s “Private Issuer Exemption.” This means that it can have up to 50 shareholders. Roughly 30 of the shareholders (including lurkers) are members of COBF. If they don't exceed the 50 shareholders' limit, they can sell their shares to Wintaai shareholders or outside investors at any price. Currently, they have 45 shareholders. Cheers!
  2. Wintaai 2023 Annual Letter discusses the Loggerhead deal. May be one of the best insurance/investment deals I've ever seen! Amazing! Cheers! Wintaai Holdings Ltd. Annual Letter (2023).pdf
  3. Yeah, I think insurers in general are off a bit since the accident. Not sure how much FFH's or BRK's exposure might be on this on the reinsurance side. Aon and Chubb are the direct hit insurers. Cheers!
  4. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/insurers-brace-multi-billion-dollar-155747897.html Cheers!
  5. Hi Viking, Yeah, I think that would be a great question. It would provide more color on the investment strategy at Fairfax going forward. Cheers!
  6. I think this is attributable primarily to Andy Barnard on insurance and Wade Burton/Lawrence Chin on investments. The culture is now there of quality at a fair price, rather than lesser quality at a great price. Cheers!
  7. Prem was heavily influenced by Sir John Templeton. They've always had a more global vision for investing/business than any other value team I know of...other than Peter Cundill. Cheers!
  8. True! A bunch made their reputation then and marketed the hell out of it. Performance afterwards was mediocre or below. Cheers!
  9. Thanks! Did not know the Director's Cut existed. Was a very good movie as is, but if additional content makes it better...I'm definitely going to watch it. Cheers!
  10. The old "Road House" is a classic especially for fans of Patrick Swayze, but I watched the new one tonight on Amazon Prime...and it's pretty damn good! Unfortunately, the rest of the movie doesn't live up to the first 20-30 minutes which is awesome, but its does a good job of reinventing Dalton. Cheers!
  11. He's not as bad as Greg makes him out to be. He's another manager who has gotten stuck as a perma-bear in the last decade because the natural gravity of stocks (fundamentals) seem to be detached from history. Joining the pile that includes Grantham, Klarman, Gary Schilling, Taleb, Burry, Roubini, David Rosenberg, etc. Who knows, they may be the ones who are right over the next decade! For me, buy what you find to be fundamentally cheap and average down. And if you can't really find much, let the cash build up and don't let it burn a hole in your pocket. Just be patient! Otherwise, buy ETF's and just average in over time! Cheers!
  12. I think Fairfax will take FIH private. If they took their performance fee in shares, FIH would have to issue those shares increasing the float. FFH took cash to buy shares in the open market and reduce the available share count...I suspect they will continue to take cash going forward. At some point, they will offer to take FIH completely private. FFH is generally happier when they own the whole pizza, rather than a few slices. In the meantime, they will bring in outside investors including some of their friends to fund the purchase of IDBI. Let's see where this $1B goes that they just raised. I suspect they will inject it into FIH, increasing their percent ownership dramatically! Fairfax will be one of the largest foreign institutional investors in India in 20 years...outside of nation-state owned entities. Full disclosure: I own zero FIH. I just let FFH handle the investments in India. I don't have the time, expertise or access they do to know the Indian market nearly as well as they do. Cheers!
  13. Sorry, but so far all levels of the legal system disagree with you. There was Richard Nixon. Also, how is it any different than the target on Biden or his son? This is all nonsense. If Trump defrauded the system...he goes to jail. If Hunter Biden defrauded the system or is charged with contempt...he goes to jail. Pretty easy to understand. So let's not assume that BRK's actions were politically-related, and simply not based on risk. Cheers!
  14. I'm sure the bankers for Enron also didn't have any issue with the statements provided by Arthur Anderson when they were lending money as well. Legal concept of Standing disagreed there as well! Cheers!
  15. Fraud is a crime...regardless of who or how many did or didn't get hurt. That's why people are always so pissed off when white collar criminals get a pass. BCSC has $500M in fines outstanding and has only collected on $11M. The U.S. is much better at collecting! Cheers!
  16. +1! We also don't know what the debt to equity on the pledged assets is. There could be massive borrowings that would be first in line as well. Cheers!
  17. Going to miss that show when it ends after this season! Cheers!
  18. The U.S. has never adopted the "diversity is our strength" mantra...that's Canada. U.S. has always said that the country was a "melting pot"...diverse coming in, uniform at the end. Problem is that you've got nutjobs on each end of the spectrum driving all the uniform people crazy! A decent, centrist politician in the U.S. under the age of 60 would take 70% of the public vote! But they don't want to run. Cheers!
  19. LOL! Couldn't stop laughing. I have to agree with you on this! Cheers!
  20. Greg, it's equally mind-boggling how many vote for Trump...as you said...the dude isn't even capable of holding a conversation, ask his keepers as well. Problem is that Trump's keepers can't get him to stop self-immolating! Frankly, both parties are insane in pushing these guys to the front! The American people and both parties are doing exactly what the U.S. presently deserves...retards for President! You just better hope that as Buffett says, the company (known as the U.S.) has enough competitive advantages to survive poor managers running it! Cheers!
  21. First of all, 3 items isn't all that's on the agenda: What about the U.S. station in the world...relationship to allies...retaining and growing global trade? You can't let Russia or China run unchallenged around the world...nor can you cozy up to dictators like Putin and Kim Jong Un. What about the growing divide between the wealthy and the poor? How about the budget deficit and national debt? What about national infrastructure including roads/highways, the electrical grid, hospitals, schools, etc? How about the strength of the military? There are probably hundreds of other important and necessary issues. While some of those issues may not be as important to part of the population, it may mean everything to others. The country needs a President that will work for everyone...not just half of the population...and unfortunately, for the last 20 years, they've all been partisan Presidents! Which has just escalated the rhetoric and stupidity between each side. Cheers!
  22. This is the garbage that feeds the Trump machine! Is that really what American’s want or do they support him as a big Eff-you to mainstreet politics? There is nothing sober about Trump. He’s a crook and fraud like most politicians. And perhaps the biggest narcissist the world has ever seen. Good people don’t run for politics anymore…just the people who play the game…on both sides! Cheers!

  24. Can't stand Hillary, but even the biggest Trump supporters must know he's a real twat and moron, who says the dumbest things to fire up the more baser instincts of his acolytes. The really sad part is that both parties truly...truly...believe that Biden and Trump are their best chances and choices! How effed up has the U.S. gotten when it comes to their political leaders? Now please go back to talking about the Star Ship launch, instead of politics! Cheers!
  25. I hope that Germany doesn't join either, but that includes having some faith in a man who imprisons, poisons and kills those that stand in his way. Now hopefully you and ValueArb can stop arguing and let people return to reporting the news on the war and any constructive criticism of it. Cheers!
