  1. Should be good for FFH's Poseidon investment renewals or new contracts. Cheers!
  2. I spoke to Paul after he left. The decision to leave was completely personal and family related. Fairfax had no intention of letting Paul go...his family needed him around more. Cheers!
  3. Funny perhaps...but maybe too soon! It's very lucky that the U.S. isn't in mourning this week. Cheers!
  4. Well, are you then going to give credit to Paul for the move to put Andy Barnard as President of all of the insurance businesses? What about the credit default swap investments? How about bringing in Wade Burton? It's easy to discount what happened during Paul's watch because things are going so well now. Fairfax is a team...no egos...no individuals! The team has done better. Cheers!
  5. Congratulations newtovalue! Maybe you need to change your moniker to "damngoodatvalue". Cheers!
  6. Also can't forget these guys...arguably the most under-rated rock/punk bands of all-time who keep putting out good music 40 years into it. A style all their own and identifiably Californian! Some great songs by them especially when Frusciante was playing. One of the great bass guitarists in Flea, lead guitarist in Frusciante, and drummers of all time in Chad Smith...combined with Anthony Keidis' unique vocals...The Red Hot Chilli Peppers! Cheers!
  7. Another great late song by New Order was from their 2013 album "Lost Sirens" with "Californian Grass". I feel like driving up the Pacific Coast Highway in a Porsche 911 Carrera every time I listen to this song! Cheers!
  8. The music that came out of both those bands influenced a lot of other people...A LOT! We're all used to New Order's synth-pop-alternative-rock in the 80's and 90's, but one of their best songs came later off "Get Ready" in 2001..."Crystal"! Bernard Sumner's voice and guitar like Robert Smith of the Cure are classics! Cheers!
  9. Yup...I would include New Order in there as well. Cheers!
  10. Are you guys all using VPN's? You all have pages and pages of IP addresses. I would test to see if you can log-in without the VPN. Cheers! Sanjeev
  11. Hi Mephistopheles, When I log-in using your username and password, no problems. I'm guessing you are using a VPN, since there are pages and pages of different IP addresses attached to your account. Not sure which IP address is causing the trigger. Try without the VPN and see if it works. Sanjeev
  12. When we started talking about the early stars of Rock, Punk, Metal, Grunge, etc. I decided to listen to one of my favorites from that era...the brilliant Robert Smith and the Cure! He pretty much overlapped all of it! Now 65, he was rocking out in Glastonbury in 2019 to my favorite song they ever wrote...a song for one of the best graphic novel/superhero movies of all time...Burn for the movie The Crow. Even in 2019, he still sounded like the late 20 something rocker I first listened to and probably one of the most unheralded guitarist/composers of his era. The solo riff in the middle of the song is right up there with the beautiful riff The Edge plays in U2's With or Without You! Cheers!
  13. It's due to plug-in glitch that is having problems reconciling information between the Invision community software and Wordpress' database software. Thus why many people's registered full name was/is showing up. To fix the name thing, just change your username back to what it was previously...it will change all the post names back too. If you are having difficulty changing it back, just contact me. Thanks! Sanjeev
  14. Hi All, This plug-in issue has been more problematic than we originally thought. Basically, it is what allows the membership information to be recorded properly in the Wordpress database. Last August, I changed the attached email address and it created a disconnect. I guess it accumulated till the system had severe issues today. We're still working on this issue, but because of the July 4th holiday tomorrow, it may not get completely fixed until the weekend. For now, the plug-in has been disconnected. You may have to reset your password for your username, so that your password for the message board matches the password you used to register when you joined. If you continue to have problems on Friday, please email me and I'll get the IT team to check each issue. Thanks very much for your patience! Sanjeev
  15. Hi All, We were having some site log-in issues today. They have been temporarily fixed. The IT team needs to work on it some more over the next few days to figure out the issues with a specific plug-in, so there may be some temporary shut-downs...hopefully during non-peak hours...to remedy the situation. Thanks and apologies for the lack of access! If you are still having any issues, because many of you tried to reset your password, let me know and I will try to help. Sanjeev
  16. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hedge-fund-secret-adani-short-014855805.html Cheers!

  18. It's funny how these guys are the last ones standing. Eddie is best buds with Young now. Everyone else from the Grunge era is dead or irrelevant...other than Dave Grohl...and his music is just a shadow of what they created together at Nirvana! I still think Vitalogy and Nirvana's Nevermind are the best albums to come out of that era! Cheers!
  19. Neil Young is in a whole different category...like Dylan, Leonard Cohen or Hendrix...timeless and one of a kind! And three of those four had a Canadian connection or were born here...Young, Cohen and Hendrix! And Dylan was born in Duluth, which is essentially frigid Canada! Cheers!
  20. We'll find out how good or bad this season is going to be, but not a great start: https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/30/weather/hurricane-beryl-barbados-caribbean-sunday/index.html Cheers!
  21. The Kinks were part of a number of groups that influenced and developed rock music...including punk, grunge, heavy metal, etc. Included in that group, were The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Iron Butterfly, Budgie, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf and Judas Priest. My uncle listened to Elvis, while I grew up on the Beatles and Rolling Stones. I eventually moved on to the guys above, including The Kinks. The problem with The Kinks was that they would break up every other week! These groups considered hard rock and precursors to heavy metal, also heavily influenced the development of Punk Rock...which of course led to Grunge. Cheers!
  22. Hi Stubble, I'm almost certain it was a personal contribution...not from Fairfax or Sixty-Three. An alumnus giving back. Cheers!
  23. It wasn't a press release from Fairfax, but from IIT Madras...which should suggest that this was a personal contribution, not one from Fairfax. Cheers!
