  1. Like several other American CofB&F members posting in this topic, you post here about things of which you really haven't any a priori demonstrated clue, whatsoever. It's actually quite embarrassing. Go home, and study European businesses, and then get back to us here.
  2. Bloomberg - Politics [April 16th 2025] : Russia Asks to Buy Boeing Jets With Frozen Funds in US Talks. One got to get kidding me ! : Where are the frozen financial assets primarily located : In Europe. Not for Trump in any way to decide, or to use in any way as negotiation leverage. Putin play book 1-0-1.
  3. Like so many other investors, you are just showing off your personal biases in that particular regard.
  4. To me, it's just an observable fact, that there are a few active members of CofB&F, who really aren't able to discuss politics within the framework of generally accepted principles for logical and civil discussion, which fact make me sad.
  5. Thank you, and good for you, Luke @Luke.
  6. Are you still running your portfolio, partly based on margin, @Luke ?
  7. I've got a private message from Sweet answering my last question. Ref. the above quoted, posted by @Sweet earlier, it's certainly a concerning trend in Politics in general, but to varying degrees, whereever one looks. I think, for my part, locally, it's fair to say, that for Danish politicians, that don't comply to a certain codex of an absolute minimum of decency and codiality, there is no room, nor future. It's just considered 'Un-Danish'. '- We simply aren't so.'
  8. @Sweet, I'm really sorry, if I above offended you. In that was the case, I sincerely apologize. However the nosy part of me has to ask : What is [English minus British]? I'm not sure if the answer to this question is 'Irish' or 'Scottish'
  9. @Sweet, Am I right assuming you're English, based on my poor recollection of your origin and home country?
  10. Culture, modus operandi, what to comply with, and what not to do, in an organisation is always influenced and defined from the very top of the organisation. Here is an example of a 27 years old piece of eye candy, receptive, easy to learn, teachable, representing the White House of the United States of America, in public coming down hard in the most condescending way thinkable on the predecessor of her own boss, - a man who likely is ill, and for sure at high age, and has been serving his country long before she even was born. [Please listen to video clip in the lower part below]. Respect for the elder seems to be the name of a village in Sibiria, all while her own boss in reality already and also is a geriatric, but appearantly by now a heathy one. - - - o 0 o - - - How low can we go?
  11. It doesen't really matter, does it? It's criminalized, and should be handled accordingly. Criminal bullies and thugs are about everywhere.
  12. @alpha and Carl [ @Cigarbutt ], From the Globe and Mail aticle mentioned by @alpha : It may read as if there in some kind of conflict between Canadian-American tax treaty and this draft legislation H. R. 591, which Canada can invoke in some international court if it comes to so. However that is not the case. Bilateral tax treaties among countries allocate and divide the right to tax a given income stream between two countries, who are in conflict about both countries according to their local tax code should have the privilege and right to tax. So such tax treaties can only reduce already existing taxes. So Canada has no power to counter H. R. 591 as such, other than terminating - if possible - the tax treaty and renegotiate it - again, if possible. - - - o 0 o - - - Christ, what a mess ... -And who may eventually be next Canada? [Note to self : Remember own BN.US shares -> BN.TO shares!]
  13. This is an awesome analogy to 'The Emperors New Clothes', Eric [ @cwericb ], I'm living in Odense, the Danish city, where Hans Christian Andersen was born. In the summer months, the favorite café of the Lady of The House and I is located in down town Odense just beside a group of three figures in molded brass on a not so dominant or flamboyant piedestal / plateau, created by tiles. In front of it is a plate, in the tiles, also in brass, with the inscription : 'Donated by Bendix Nova Gruppen 1988' Here is a photo of it : More photos here. By then, I was the group audit manager of a private group with 32 subsidiaries of the parent, two of the 33 companies listed, one of them Bendix Nova Gruppen, the other a bank operating locally, and subsidiary of Bendix Nova Gruppen, called Bendix Bank. The owner of the group was a then 39 years old man, who had moved back home around late 1970s after a carrier as stockbroker in Copenhagen, with some money in the pockets [nice guy, but basically an empty suit]. In 1988, he locally had status of city tycoon, but it was basically all borrowed feathers, he adorned himself with. Two cars : A Jaguar XJ 4.2 and Porche 928 S, enormous villa at the most expensive street and address in town at that time. All provided as free from his personal holding company, so according to Danish tax code he was taxed the crap out of him because of that. Things weren't exactly going too well, to say it mildly. At the annual meeting in May 1988 in Bendix Nova Gruppen, there was a proposal from the board of a zero dividend. A shareholder took the podium and asked it really could be right, that the company had donated the above monument to the City of Odense in March, and there was no dividend to him in the same year, then, 'this' year. He also mentioned that he had read in the local newspaper, that the artist Kjeld Mosehome Jørgensen had got DKK 800,000 for it. He was so appalled. [ ]. Even 'better' in the end of May same, an inspection of the bank by the Danish FSA took place, and concluded material further provisions for loan losses was required. In June, the bank financing the whole thing levered to the sky, panicked, and pulled the plug on all financing of the group over a weekend, after which the whole group collapsed as a house of cards. - - - o 0 o - - - Every time, I see a kid start climbing the Emperor, I get protective, and approch the kid and ask to get down, so no harm is done. Some times I get the answer,: 'Is that really necessary' [he indeed seems quite solid] or even better 'naturally I'll mind not to break the stick', which I then have correct, say 'It's not a stick, it's the emperors scepter!'. [ ] - - - o 0 o - - - Basically, everything is about appearances and perceptions.
  14. I hope you'll agree with me to move this discussion to the topic in this forum called 'Luxury sector - News'. It's to me misplaced here, because US luxury isen't - it's far from - dominant in the sector.
  15. @dwy000, No, that was about eight hours go.
  16. Exellent post, @Spekulatius, The damages to global order flow, supply chains, flows of cash and liquidity because of the decisions made on 2 April 2025 by POTUS, his cabinet and administration, and the following corrections, roll backs deferrals of those decisions ndl all that, are already done. And by now nobody have a clue - or even just an overall picture - of these damages, but they are likely already huge, and likely still growing by the day - tick-tack - counting.
  17. @Sweet, You may be right, or you may be wrong, because, yes, who knows. Perhaps we can at least can agree on that this whole US tariffs thing was turned into a fully fledged communication disaster.
  18. Supplementary information, related to the exemption message yesterday of US tariffs on phones, computers and chips, from commerce secretary Howard Lutnick :
  19. -And just for the heck of it and to stir the pot a bit about eggs! [ ] : Here in Denmark, in Bilka [a part of the large Danish retailer Salling Group] they have so many eggs that they actually sell some them!, and eggs are on now on sale, here, up to the start of Easter next week : DKK 1.00 per piece, including 25 per cent VAT! -And for that price one even also scan a QR code on the lid and participate in a competition! - Isen't it just great!
  20. KALs cartoon in the new weeks The Economist :
  21. @dwy000, I speculate somebody has approached POTUS in a very persistent way, telling him that he would not be allowed to go golfing this Saturday afternoon, if he diden't do something.
  22. I don't recall it has been shared before here on CofB&F, the film by Peter Navarro, from August 18th 2012 : DeathByChina [April 10th 2016] : Death By China: How America Lost Its Manufacturing Base (Official Version)
  23. Here is a post from Charlie [ @dealraker ] in another topic, but of today : If market's perspecective forward looking is basically close to non-existent, how can anyone, - based on reason and rationality - How can anyone rightly claim that this is the right time to buy?
  24. This whole tariff thingy begins to look like an analogy to Carl Icahn settling the Tecaco/Getty Oil lawsuit : What can I get? What are you going to buy? YouTube - Channel livermorereport - Carl Icahn [on a loose leach] - at Caroline's Comedy Club in Manhattan [December 14th 2007] : Carl Icahn settles the Texaco/Getty Oil lawsuit
  25. Exactly, the Sberbank situation, the situations with Gazprom, Lukoil etc. did not occur because of something decided by Russia. They were caused by certain western sanctions.
